Love is Sedimentary

As the rock coloured pony traveled down the stream, the air flowed through her dark toned hair. It was a gloomy day and it was bitterly cold, something that Maud Pie preferred over sunny days. The calm sound of the small river trickling downhill was music to her ears as she walked alongside the stream.

Maud Pie wasn't here because she was looking for rocks; instead, she was here because she needed a walk. In her pocket pouch, was a small pebble. Maud treasured this pebble with all her life. She even had a name for it.

His name was Tom. Sure, it was an odd name for a rock, or an inanimate object for that matter, but Maud didn't care what others thought anyways. Maud treasured Tom for so long, that they both had a very special bond with each other that was unbreakable.

It was a special day when they first met. Maud was a young girl at the time, and she didn't have a coltfriend, or a social life. But one day, that all changed for the better. For when Maud took a quick glance down at the ground, she suddenly knew that she was in love.

It was Tom, and he was laying down on the ground, doing nothing of particular interest. Their eyes met, and it was almost love at first sight. Maud was shy at first, but soon they came to trust each other more as time started to go by. It did not take long for them to realize that they were in love with each other.

They did all sorts of activities with each other in their relationship. They went out to lunch together very often, swung on the swings at the park and hung around Maud's house. Soon, they shared their very first kiss, something that Maud would never forget, for it was the first time that he ever kissed a boy. It was a magical moment for her.

That day at the stream, they were both taking a walk together. Maud sat herself down beside the stream, trying her best not to disturb the rocks that were already at the shoreline of the river. Maud took out Tom and set him beside her. They both gazed out at the river, watching the endless stream of water as the cold air chilled the two to the bone.

They watched the water for some time until something happened, that would change Maud's life forever. Maud looked down at one of the many pebbles and spotted one in particular that was sitting all alone. He wasn't doing anything, and he looked lonely. A feeling of sympathy washed over Maud, and she got up to talk to him.

She sat herself down beside the pebble and started talking to him.

"Hello, my name is Maud. What's yours?"

The pebble looked at her, then turned away.

"Don't worry, I am no enemy."

The pebble looked back at Maud and finally sighed.

"I'm sorry if I looked pretty lonely. I just broke up with another pebble," he said.

"It's hard," Maud said. The pebble looked back at the river and kept looking at it. Maud followed his gaze and did the same. For some moments, they just sat there, looking at the stream. Finally, the pebble spoke.

"I'm sorry," he said. "I didn't introduce myself. My name is Boulder."

"It's nice to meet you, Boulder," Maud said. Boulder smiled dryly, and looked back at the river. They both kept on looking at the river for the longest time until a voice yelled over.

"Hey, you! What are you doing with my girl?" Tom said. He stomped his way to the pair and flustered. "Brush off, little man. This girl is mine!"

"No, it's okay," Boulder said. "We were just talking to each other is all."

Tom only became more red. "Oh, I see what it is. You're flirting with my girl!"

"Tom, it's all right. Please stop embarrassing me in front of people," Maud said, stepping in.

"No, I could already see it. You and that stupid little pebble will start being all lovey dovey, and you'll just leave me in the dust!" Tom flustered.

"It's not anything like that!" Maud said, raising her voice. "Why can't you stop being so defensive whenever I try to talk to other pebbles, Tom?"

"Why?" Tom asked rhetorically. "Because I don't want to lose a girl like you!" Tom looked over behind her. "Especially with a plot like that..."

"Tom!" Maud yelled, blushing a little. "Not here! What is wrong with you today?"

"Look, buddy, why can't we just settle this somewhere else, where there isn't other pebbles," Boulder said. Tom went over to Boulder and started to shove him.

"Oh yeah? You wanna fight? You feeling lucky today, punk?"

"TOM! That is enough of you!" Maud said, separating the two before the fisticuffs came out. "I've had it with you! Why can't you just leave other pebbles alone?!"

"Shut up, you! This is something that is between me and him!" Tom said, shoving Boulder some more. Maud gasped and got up from her spot.

"That is it! I am breaking up with you, Tom! I am done!"

"Whu-" Tom sputtered. "Bu- why?"

"You are too controlling of me! I would better be off with Boulder instead of you! Now go away!" Maud said. Tom glared into Boulder's eyes, the stormed off.

Maud sighed and looked down at Boulder. "I am so sorry that happened, Boulder. He is just so stupid."

"No, it's alright. Nobody got hurt, and that's a good thing," Boulder said. Maud nodded and looked back at the river. The peaceful stream kept going, undisturbed by the conflict. They both stared at the river and shared the moment together.

"...and that is how we got married," Boulder explained to his two children, who were listening, their eyes wide open. The girl jumped up and down, trying to ask a question.

"I have a question! I have a question!"

"Yes, Tiffany?"

"Where do babies come from?"

"Oh, that is something you will learn later in life."
