//------------------------------// // The Rainbow I See // Story: The Rainbow I See // by Surry //------------------------------// Rainbow Dash You're the only rainbow I see, setting my heart free. Didn't you know? I wish it was only you and me. Living in this world, I know it's not all we'll ever be, but then again, you're the only rainbow I see. Remember when I first came to town? You were resting on a cloud, then came down, after busting them all away, never to be found. Yes it's true, I had a thing for you, but I felt we never gave our friendship its due. At least, not until the day, not until you set us free, and realized that you're the only rainbow I see. I wondered why you'd like a pony like me, but it became clear in time, it was something that just had to be. And now, Rainbow, I just have to say, these are the best years of my life, with you, and I hope they're here to stay. Because it's true, I love you, it's something I can't deny. When I look into your eyes, and see no clever guise, I know it's true; you love me too. Hurting each other is something we'd never do. And now, when you fly, when you fall, and stall, and break; my heart drops, just a little bit, even though I know it's a trick you'll make. I have confidence in you, like not many do. I believe you can do anything, anything you set your mind to. And I may have my doubts, and fear, albeit. But you can reach your dreams; I can see it. At the end, you're the only rainbow for me, you can be it. Look at those around us, those who found us, and still don't know what we share. But it's because we care, through the burdens we bear, that we march to a different sound. We're different, Rainbow, you and I, as much as we don't like to admit. We can love our friends, all the same, but to each other, we chose to commit. But Rainbow, sometimes I cry, sometimes I fear, wonder where our relationship will steer. Yet, not for long, not for days. It's something I understand now, quite clear. I'm a princess, and I treat you like mine, but our destinies are uncertain, yet forever intertwined. To those who question, those who doubt, we'll stand out; because we're proud, not jaded, because we're together, unabated, and because they can't see what I see, that you're the only rainbow for me. Who knows? Maybe they will, one day, we'll see. Perhaps even Celestia will know what I mean, when I say that I love you, because it's true. Even Celestia will know it, that my favorite pegasus is blue. And so, now I ask, bowing before you, will you be with me? Forever? I don't think our love could ever break, it's true, never a surrendered endeavor. Because you're the one, the one for me, not like my books; silly things, made from trees. You're more special than that; you set me free, when my vision was cleared... You are the only Rainbow I see. With love, Twilight. And with that, Twilight set down the pen, sighing in relief at her small triumph. She let the ink dry well enough, careful not to have the words smear against each other as she folded the letter. Casually allowing her magic to do the rest, it was placed in the envelope, sealed, and promptly stamped across its back flap. "Here's hoping," she muttered. "I've tried poetry before... but I've never done anything like that." The chair creaked as she stood up and turned, heading back for the stairs and hauling the letter in tow. A stone corridor, long and narrow, served as the only ear to listen in on her private conversation, and her clopping hooves. "Rainbow's always talked about this kind of poetry," she mused on. "I wonder why I've never tried it before. It was kinda' fun!" As she found the end of the steps, the familiar sound of dusting came about. It was Spike, faithfully tending to his duties as always, but he stopped once the princess entered. "So," he began, raising an eyebrow. "How'd it go? Do you think she'll like it?" "Of course she will," Twilight chirped. "I'm sure she'll love it." Spike nodded in approval, setting down the duster and softly clapping his hands for her. He made his approach, smiling something quite smug. "I'm sure she will too," he added. "I was just playin' ya'. I knew she'd love it, especially since you were the one who wrote it for her. What's not to love?" He reached up with his clawed hand, waiting for his delivery and orders. While Twilight was quick to comply, handing the letter delicately over to him, she appeared to be a bit perplexed whilst doing so. "You don't want to read it and tell me if it's okay?" she asked. He shook his head from side to side. "Nope," he said calmly. "I know it's something that's only meant for her, so I won't go snooping." With a flick of his wrist, he tossed the envelope up into the air and gave it a quick blast of his signature green flame. The ashes scattered, coalesced, and then traced a green line out of a nearby, stained-glass window. "The Wonderbolts Academy, right?" he asked. "M-hm," Twilight nodded this time. "She's still dealing with some new recruits today, so she won't get it until she's done." Spike walked back over to the duster and picked it up, continuing his recently assigned chore for the castle. Not a peck of dust could be left alone. "I think she'll like that even more," he said with a warm smile. fin.
