Hearts & Hooves Day Broken Hearts Reborn

For most ponies, Hearts & Hooves Day has always been seen as a day for love, and bliss with your significant other, but what if this special day only reminds you of pain. That is true for Twilight Sparkle, she's never shown much towards this day, ever since she was a young filly,but she knew this Hearts and Hooves Day would be different,she was going to have a special somepony this time, but this year could end up like all the other years,alone again on the most romantic day of the year. Twilight's had very little experience with love and romance,she sheltered herself away in the castle of Canterlot, as a filly she never really thought about love, until she decided to take a chance,one fateful Hearts and Hooves Day.
"Hey Blueblood, I know you've probably already got plans, for Hearts and Hooves Day, but I was wondering if you'd be interested in maybe, spending Hearts and Hooves Day together as a couple." Twilight asked, not only because Prince Blueblood was the only colt she knew, besides Shining Armor, well enough but also because she always felt something she can't explain, when she's around him.
"Sure thing Miss Sparkle, I would love to spend Hearts and Hooves Day with you." Prince Blueblood said, nuzzling Twilight's neck as he walked by, showing his interest in the young unicorn filly.
Twilight spent hours throughout the day, getting ready for her first ever Hearts and Hooves Day date, actually it was her first date ever. She finally looked perfect, as she walked by a large mirror in her chambers of the castle,she left her chambers as she walked down, the large staircase to the castle's ballroom, where Princess Celestia was holding her annually Hearts and Hooves Day Dance. Twilight never really attended the festivities before this year, but granted she never had a reason before this year, just as Twilight rounded the corner into the ballroom, a sight she'd never forget caught her eyes, and it would change her young life forever. Their was her date Blueblood, hoof and hoof with Moondancer, as they made there way to the dance floor, Blueblood didn't even notice Twilight but one pony did Princess Celestia,just as she glanced over at Blueblood and back to Twilight. Twilight was already half way up the staircase, tears streaming down her face, slamming the door as she buried her face into her pillow, and began to cry.
Stupid Blueblood, I should have known, what would a pony like him,see in a common filly like me. Twilight thought, her heart broken into thousands of pieces, did she really feel something for him, or was it just simply puppy love. Many minutes passed, but to Twilight it felt like an eternity,until she heard a knock at her door.
"Go away...leave me alone." Twilight said, her words muffled by the pillow she was still crying into.
"Twilight It's Princess Celestia, can we talk." Celestia asked, not opening the door, even though she could if she wanted too.
"Oh sure thing Princess, just give me a minute." Twilight said, wiping the tears from her eyes,as she levitated multiple books, over to the bed where she laid. She began to act like she was studying.
"Okay Princess, you can come on in now."
"Twilight I just came to ask. Why you are not down at the festivities?"
"Well I've got alot of studying to do, and can't be distracted with a stupid holiday." Twilight said,not knowing Princess Celestia, had already seen her downstairs. She could barely contain, the pain in the pit of her heart, or at least what was left of it, now that it's broken.
"My student Hearts and Hooves Day, is one of the most wonderful days of the year for everypony, because you get to spend it with the ponies you love the most."
"Princess what if...What if you don't have anyponies, who love you?" Twilight asked, tears again starting to well up in the young unicorns eyes, as she tried not to look at her mentor in the face, knowing that if she did she would definitely break into uncontrollable sobbing.
"Twilight, everypony has somepony who loves them." Celestia said, placing a hoof around her young students shoulders, pulling her into an embrace.
"Not everypony Princess." Twilight said, as she looked down tears flowing like a waterfall, no longer able to hide her emotions from her long time mentor, she wasn't really doing a great job to start with.
"Twilight plenty of ponies love you, your parents, your brother and me...My beloved student I saw what happened downstairs. You can be sure, I'll be having a long talk with Blueblood, about the way he treated you."
"Thank you Princess, but I don't think there's anypony out their for me. What pony would want some nerdy bookworm, like me."
"Twilight, plenty of ponies would my beloved student, don't let what transpired tonight, ruin your chance at happiness. Twilight there are ponies out there you may have never even met before, who could love you, all you have to do, is have the strength to never give up on true love."
"Your right Princess, I'm sorry I acted so stupid. It just hurts whenever..." Twilight started her sentence, but she couldn't find the words to finish it.
"I know my student, sometimes first hoof experience at things like this, is nothing like what any book could tell you. Would you like to come back to the party? Twilight."
"No Princess, I think I'm just going to stay here, and get some studying done." Twilight said, Princess Celestia was disappointed, but understood her student's decision, as she left Twilight's chambers.
Every since than, everytime Twilight tries to take Princess Celestia's advice, and look for true love,she always stopped herself short. Yet everytime Hearts and Hooves Day rolled around, Twilight's inner hatred for the holiday of love grew. Even after so many years, she can't get herself to love,or get close to somepony again not wanting her already scarred heart to be broken again. After moving to Ponyville, even though she dreaded it, she thought it would be a great chance, to maybe find that chance at love,but it never happened. It's been two years since Twilight left Canterlot behind, and moved to Ponyville, since then she's learned so much from her new friends except,how to truly love somepony. That is until three weeks ago, when something happened that shocked the young mare,somepony asked her out and she never expected her of all ponies, to ask her. It all started one bright sunny morning, Twilight had just woken up to a loud *crash* , through her bedroom window. She saw a certain cyan blue pegasus lying on the floor, amongest multiple pieces of broken glass, she was bleeding heavily from her front hooves and right wing.
"Oh my gosh. Rainbow Dash, are you okay?" Twilight asked, as she stopped herself from yelling at Rainbow, after seeing the reddish brown liquid pouring, from her wing and hooves. Rainbow didn't respond, the crash must have knocked her out, which worried Twilight even more, not wanting to waste more time, she levitated Rainbow to her bed. Levitating over a first aid kit, she began patching Rainbow's external wounds, as the pegasus began to stir.
"Uh ow. What the hay happened anyways?" Rainbow asked, trying not to move her extremities to much, for fear of further injury.
"Phew Rainbow I'm so happy your not seriously injured, I was almost ready to rush you to the hospital, again." Twilight stated, a tinge of sarcasm, in the young mare's voice.
"No need to Twi, I'm fine really, ow." Rainbow said, as she tried to stand and begin to fly.
"Rainbow you really shouldn't try flying or walking for a few days, even though you weren't injured enough to head to the hospital, your still to sore to be flying or moving around to much."
"Twilight, I don't have much of a choice, I've got a job, and I have to get home somehow."
"Rainbow, you're in no condition to even walk, let alone work."
"But Twi I have..." Rainbow began to speak, but was cut off by a hoof to the mouth, from Twilight.
"No buts Rainbow, you'll stay here until your fully healed. As for your job, I'll make sure they know you'll be taking a few vacation days, to heal from a minor injury." Twilight levitated a parchment, and quill over as she spoke, beginning to write a letter to the weather team, to be sent out later that day.
"Fine if you think that's whats best, I'll take it easy for a couple of days." Rainbow said, trying to sound as bummed out as possible, not wanting the lavender unicorn to find out her true reason for being their.
My plan is running so smoothly, Twilight hasn't got a clue, just stay here for a few days. Slowly work up enough courage, to actually ask her out, this was the best plan I've ever had. Rainbow thought, beginning to get lost in her own thoughts, as she looked at Twilight again,she noticed Twilight's mouth had just stopped moving. Great job Rainbow, you were so lost in thought, you have no idea what she even said, act natural, stay calm don't overreact, everything's gonna be just fine.
"What did you say Twi? Sorry I'm just a little dizzy, after that crash." Rainbow was of course lying, but she needed an excuse, and this injury seemed like the best one.
"Are you sure your okay? Dizziness is often, a early sign of head trauma, maybe we should..." She was cut off, by a loud mouthed pegasus.
"NO! I mean no Twi, I'm fine really, this sorta thing happens all the time, you get use to it after crashing as much as I do." Rainbow said, laughing nervously, trying to act as casual as possible.
"If you say so Rainbow, but I was wondering, if you don't mind me asking. Why did you crash through my window?"
"Well uh I sorta was leaving work, we had a long night. I sorta maybe fell asleep on my way home, and crashed into the library." Rainbow Dash said, but was lying through her teeth, not wanting Twilight to get anymore suspicious, then she already was.
"Rainbow, you know how dangerous that is, you could've been seriously hurt. Rainbow just lay their and take it easy, I've got some work to finish/ if you need anything just call, okay." Twilight turned to leave her bedroom, as she did she heard a shallow, almost timid whisper coming from behind her.
"Sure thing Twi but, why don't I help you?" Rainbow said, as she smiled at Twilight hoping the answer was yes, so she could spend more time with her.
"Okay Rainbow, but you have to be careful, I'm still not fully sure how bad your injuries are yet."
"Awesome...Uh I mean that's cool so. What are you doing?"
"Just getting some re-shelving done, I just need to finish sections K-Z." Twilight said, levitating several books into view, to begin categorizing them.
"Didn't you just re-shelve the library, two weeks ago."
"Yes Rainbow I did, but remember a certain blue pegasus, crashed in here last week again." She reminded the cyan pegasus, in a sarcastic tone.
"Hey I said I'm sorry about that, how was I suppose to know doing a daredevil-dive during a thunderstorm would be dangerous." Rainbow said, trying to return to her normal, sarcastic, arrogant self, not wanting Twilight to think anythings a miss.
"I figured it was kind of obvious..."Twilight said, with a small chuckle. "Don't worry Rainbow I was just joking." Twilight said, as she began placing books into their rightful place, Rainbow walked slowly towards the couch to sit down,not wanting to worry Twilight anymore. Butterflies were fluttering in her stomach,she felt like she was going to be sick. Just as Rainbow plopped down on the couch, a book fell from a shelf beside the couch, where she sat she read the title out loud.
"Hearts and Hooves Day True Love is Real." Rainbow began to read the first page out-loud.
"Everypony has a true love, and what better way to show them then on the day associated with love, Hearts and Hooves Day. Chapter One:The Truth About True Love...True love is everywhere around us, and everypony has a special somepony out there, someponies have trouble finding their special somepony,others know from the first time they see them."
Tell me about it. Rainbow thought, to herself as she looked over at Twilight, a crimson red blush, began to heat up her cheeks and muzzle. Rainbow was almost ready to tell Twilight how she felt, and ask her to spend Hearts and Hooves Day with her,she laid the book down on the table, but before she could say anything Twilight finally spoke up.
"Wow what pony actually believes that stuff, I mean everypony having one true love, its a complete work of fiction." As Rainbow heard Twilight's words, each one cut through her heart like daggers, each word cutting a little deeper, the more the librarian mare spoke.
"O-Oh so you don't believe in everypony has a special somepony, there meant to be with." Rainbow asked, choking back tears, as her question left her lips.
"Of course I don't, that true love stuff is a complete fairytale. What about you Rainbow, do you believe in that true love stuff?" Twilight said, gazing over at her injured friend, whose face immediately went from complete depression, to a fake painted on smile.
"Who me? Of course not true love is completely...uncool." Rainbow said, as any hope she had of Twilight saying yes went away.
"Well Rainbow I'm done re-shelving the entire library check, now everything is completely done for today." Twilight said, glancing out a nearby window, Princess Celestia's sun was beginning to fall, making way for Princess Luna's night.
"That's great Twilight." Rainbow's head hung low, devastated her plan didn't work, she tried to begin picking her broken heart up off the floor .
"Rainbow we better change those bandages and clean your wounds, just to make sure no infection starts." Twilight said, as she began to use her magic to slowly unravel the bandages, from Rainbow's wing and hoof.
"Rainbow are you okay? It's not hurting you to bad is it." Twilight asked, watching Rainbow wince slightly, as the bandages were being removed.
"No Twilight I'm fine." Rainbow said, she didn't have her usual excitement she always had in her voice, which concerned Twilight.
"Rainbow are you sure, you don't seem like yourself."
"I'm fine Twilight...listen it's getting pretty late, I think I'm gonna go ahead, and get some sleep." Rainbow said, as she made her way slowly up the stairs, and towards a guest room Twilight had set up for her.
"Rainbow its only 7:00 PM. Are you sure your okay?"
"Yeah Twilight, I'm fine."
"Do you want something to eat? Before you go to sleep."
"No Twi,I'm not really hungry." Rainbow said, as the door to the guest room closed behind her.
I wonder whats gotten into Rainbow, she hasn't been herself all day. I hope everythings okay, I would hate for something to seriously be wrong.
I knew it I was right, Twilight would never want a pony like me, she's just like all the others. Rainbow thought, flopping down on the bed, doing her best to avoid further injury.
Several Days passed, without Rainbow even leaving Twilight's guest room, except for Twilight to change her bandages than Rainbow went straight back upstairs. Until finally a weeks worth of rest, Rainbow was almost completely healed, she only had one more day until everything went back to normal.
"Well Rainbow good news, everything should be healed fully by tomorrow."
"Great, I can't wait." Rainbow said, she had no happiness in her voice, as she again began the trip up the stairs to the guest room, except this time a purple aura engulfed her body bringing her back downstairs.
"Rainbow. Whats gotten into you? You haven't been yourself, and I'm really worried."
"What do you care." Rainbow's voice had a dark, almost unnatural tone to it, venom-sipping from her words as she spoke.
"Rainbow why would you say that. I wouldn't have taken care of you if I didn't."
"Yeah but you hurt me, way more than you helped me." Rainbow said, as Twilight released her magical grip, on Rainbow siting her slowly to the floor, as a slight teardrop became visible on Rainbow's cheek.
"Rainbow. What are you even talking about?" Twilight asked, she was confused of what she did, to hurt Rainbow Dash this bad.
"It doesn't matter Twi, just leave me alone!" Rainbow yelled, spiting more venom, with ever word she spoke.
"Rainbow, if I did something to hurt you I'm sorry, but I just don't know what I actual did."
"Twilight do you want to know why I crashed into the library, last week."
"You already told me Rainbow, you fell asleep after working all night."
"No Twilight, the reason I crashed in here was because, I needed a good excuse to stay here for a few days."
"Why would you need to stay here?" Twilight asked, more confused than ever at the current situation.
"Twilight the reason I needed to stay, was because I wanted to ask you to be...nevermind you already said you don't care." Rainbow said, still with little feeling in her voice, Twilight walked over wrapping Rainbow in a hug.
"Rainbow I do care,please tell me,I'm really worried about you."
"L-Let me go, you don't care, so I've stopped caring too." Rainbow said, in a cold un-feeling tone.
"Rainbow, please talk to me. I want to help you, I just need to know. What's wrong?"
"Fine...I wanted to ask you to be my marefriend, for Hearts and Hooves Day." Rainbow finally said the words, that had been pent up inside for so long, she was able to finally get her longest keep secret off her chest.
"Y-you what. You want me to be, your marefriend for Hearts and Hooves Day."
"Yeah but after you said you didn't believe in everypony finding true love, I figured maybe I wouldn't find it either." Rainbow's ears drooped, as her voice began to quiver, with ever word she spoke, she was almost on the verge of tears again until a reassuring hoof wrapped around her neck pulling her into an embrace.
"Rainbow Dash I'm so sorry, its just I've hated Hearts and Hooves Day ever since..."
"Ever since, What?"
"Ever since I was a filly back in Canterlot, I asked Blueblood to Princess Celestia's Hearts and Hooves Day Ball, and he said yes. Except once I got ready and went down to the party, Blueblood was with another filly. Since then I haven't wanted to celebrate Hearts and Hooves Day, or find my special somepony." As Twilight's story finished, any anger melted away from the pegasus, she was still hurt but now, she saw a reason in Twilight's behavior, thinking maybe she had a chance, to save true love for the both of them.
"I had no idea Twi and I'm sorry, but would you give me a chance this Hearts and Hooves Day, please." Rainbow asked the enthusiasm, coming back into her voice slowly.
"I-I don't know Rainbow, I just don't really want to be hurt again."
"Twilight I promise you, I love you I'd never do anything to hurt you on purpose, just give me a chance to prove to you how much I love you." Rainbow said, taking Twilight's hoof into her own, as she stared deep into Twilight's purple eyes.
"Rainbow I-I need some time to think about it, if that's okay."
"Sure thing Twi, take as long as you need."
Well that brings us to today, morning before Hearts and Hooves Day, and still no answer from Twilight. Rainbow just laid in her house in the clouds, not knowing what Twilight's answer would be, and was to afraid to face rejection. Just as Rainbow sprawled out on her cloud bed to try and sleep, she heard a *knock**knock* at her door as she flew down from her upstairs room, and opened the front door she saw a lavender unicorn standing at her door.
"Uh Rainbow can I come in, and talk to you."
"Sure thing Twi come on in. Would you like anything?"
"No Rainbow I'm fine...listen Rainbow I was just thinking about what you said, about Hearts and Hooves Day."
"Yeah and, What do you say?" A knot was beginning to form, inside Rainbow's stomach, waiting for Twilight's answer.
"Rainbow, Princess Celestia told me back when I was a filly, that true love is out their for everypony. I don't know if shes right, but I don't want to miss a chance at true love so, yes I would love to be your marefriend for Hearts and Hooves Day."
"Ohthankyouthankyouthank..." Rainbow stopped herself not wanting to look desperate, she let out a light sigh and cough before speaking again. "I mean that's cool." Rainbow said, as she composed herself, squeezing Twilight in a vice-like embrace.
"Rainbow can't breath." Twilight said, hoping Rainbow Dash would release her tight grip, on Twilight's chest and back.
"Oh my bad Twi, I guess I just got carried away."
"That's okay Rainbow so. Whats our plans for tomorrow?"
"Don't worry Twi, you just leave all that to me." The wheels were turning in Rainbow's head, she had been planning for this date ever since they meet, and now the day was finally here.
"Okay if you say so. I've gotta go Rainbow Dash, I'll see you tomorrow." Twilight had a slight blush, as she stepped into her balloons basket.
"Sure thing Twi I'll pick you up around 6:00 PM." Rainbow Dash, returned the same pinkish, red blush to the unicorn mare.
"Alright sounds great."
Rainbow in her excitement, almost forgot a few very important details. So she headed over to Rarity's Boutique for a dress, Rainbows never really liked dressing up, but it was a special night. She bolted over to Rarity's, she arrived in ten seconds flat.
*knock**knock*
"I'm coming darling, oh Rainbow Dash its you. What can I help you with today."
"Rarity I know its sorta last minute, but do you think you can make me something for Hearts and Hooves Day."
"Well um dear Hearts and Hooves Day is tomorrow, but I should be able to come up with something...Here." Rarity said as she levitated a dress from a nearby closet, it was sealed in a clear bag.
"Rarity. How did you know?"
"Dear I've wanted to design you a dress for years, besides you've got romantic feeling's towards a special somepony, so it was only a matter of time, before you would need it."
"Its great Rarity,Thanks... but how did you know I, had a crush on somepony, I haven't told anypony." Giving the dress a quick look over,no matter how much Rainbow didn't want to admit it,the dress would look completely awesome on her.
"Think nothing of it darling, and to answer you question you give off all the signs, of a mare who's in love. Who is the lucky mare?" Rarity asked, Rainbow had already came out to her friends last year, with great support.
"Well its Twilight." Rainbow said, Rarity almost fainted at the pony's name, she had heard come out of Rainbow's mouth.
"Congratulations dear, but I never expected you to have feelings for Twilight, no offense."
"None taken, listen Rarity I'd love to stay and chat, but I've got alot of other stuff to get prepared before tomorrow."
"Alright Rainbow, but I can't wait to hear all the juicy details of your date."
"Whatever Rarity, I've gotta get going."
The Next Day
Rainbow knew she only had an hour, to get everything else perfect, before she had to pick up Twilight. So she headed over to Sweet Apple Acres, to set up for the best Hearts and Hooves Day ever. Rainbow had the best Hearts and Hooves Day Date, ever planned. As she got the finishing touches into her big finale, she looked at the sun, seeing how late it was getting she rushed to Golden Oaks Library. She flew faster than ever before, she could have tore fur clean of anypony in her path, she managed to rip a large amount of, leaves and apples from the trees of Sweet Apple Acres, not wanting to be late for the greatest night of her life.
Oh no I'm late, Twi is gonna kill me. Rainbow thought, not wanting to be late for her date, just as she arrived at the door of the library.
"I am so sorry Twilight, I didn't mean to be late just some last minute stuff to set up and..."
"Don't worry Rainbow you're here, and that's all that matters to me so. Whats the plan for tonight?"
"Sorry Twi can't tell you that, it's a surprise." Rainbow Dash said, as she placed a wing around her marefriend.
"Rainbow I've never seen you like this before, I thought you hated wearing dresses."
"I do but tonight's special, I wanted to look my best."
"You always do Dash." Twilight said, causing a crimson blush, to radiate over Rainbow's muzzle and cheeks.
"Come on Twi, we've got a great night ahead of us." Rainbow said, as they headed to a secluded spot of Sweet Apple Acres.
"Rainbow. What are we doing out here?"
"Having a romantic, moon-lite dinner." Rainbow said, as they walked through a large bunch of apple trees, revealing a table for two on the edge of a small stream, right under the romantic light of the moon.
"Rainbow its beautiful."
"Thanks Twi, I just wanted tonight to be awesome." Rainbow pulled out Twilight's chair, as she walked towards the table, which made the unicorn blush slightly. Rainbow and Twilight began to eat the meal, Rainbow had prepared, for the evening.
"How long have you been planning this, Rainbow?"
"Uh lets see. When did we met?" Rainbow looked lovingly into the eyes of the mare, the mare she always dreamed of one day, spending the rest of her life with.
"Rainbow I had no idea you felt like that, for so long."
"I didn't want to say anything, to you know mess up our friendship." Rainbow said, averting her eyes from Twilight's, not wanting judging eyes to be looking at her.
"Rainbow we'll always be friends, no matter what happens." Twilight placed a hoof on Rainbow's, as she spoke in the sweetest voice possible.
"I know but I hope, we'll be marefriends, forever too."
"I hope so too." Twilight said, just as she saw Rainbow point a hoof at the moon-lite sky.
"Twi, here's surprise number two." Rainbow said, an explosion of colour and light flashed in the sky. Pictures of Twilight and Rainbow's cutie marks, were in a giant red heart, below it said love forever.
"Rainbow its beautiful." Twilight was completely awestruck, by Rainbow's display of affection.
"Not as beautiful as you are." Rainbow looked into Twilight's purple eyes, as their eyes met they got lost in eachother's gaze. So much so, they didn't notice how late it had gotten.
"It's getting pretty late Twi, I think I should be getting you back home."
"Rainbow, I don't want this night to end." Twilight whined, enjoying Hearts and Hooves Day, for the first time ever.
"Neither do I, but its getting late." Rainbow said, as she wrapped her wing around her marefriend again, as she walked her back to the library. They arrived at the library in no time, even though they didn't want this wonderful evening to end.
"Rainbow thank you for a great night,I've never had so much fun."
"Thanks Twi, I had a great time too. I guess, Hearts and Hooves Day is over."
"Yeah, I guess so." Both ponies heads hung low,disappointed there night,together had to end so soon.
"Twilight I know you said, you just wanted to try being marefriends for Hearts and Hooves Day, but. Would you like to be my permanent marefriend?" Rainbow asked, eyes slammed shut, afraid of the answer to come.
"Yes Rainbow, I would love too."
"I love you Twilight." Rainbow said, placing a small peck on the unicorns cheek.
"I love you too Rainbow. *mmmuhm* ." Twilight said, as she pulled Rainbow into a deep passionate kiss, and from that moment on they both knew this was real, it was true love.
"Well goodnight Twi." Rainbow started to flap her wings to fly away, until she heard her marefriend say something.
"Rainbow wait. Would you like to stay here tonight? I just don't want tonight to end."
"Sure thing Twi, I'd love too." Rainbow said, walking past her marefriend, the door closed slowly behind her.
