A Sudden Stop
Part 14: Heart Stopper

I awoke on a couch looking at the ceiling. I raised my arm to my face wiping the sleep from my eyes trying to understand how I got here. "Rainbow..." I whispered sitting up slowly. "She let me crash on her couch." I swung my feet off the couch placing a hand to my face I was exhausted from the day before but I needed to get up. Standing felt like a chore but it needed to be done That's when I smelled something cooking. Then I saw the smoke I moved into the kitchen to see Rainbow struggling to make breakfast.
"Why is cooking so aggravating?" She asked herself with a groan. "It's just food why can't I get it right?" She threw away what she was cooking before starting again. I walked up behind her slowly.
"That's because it takes a little skill to cook." Rainbow jumped turning around frying pan in hand. I caught her by the wrist stopping her. "Please don't swing a hot frying pan at me." I said with a smile before taking the frying pan from her. "What are you trying to cook?" I asked with a smile. She blushed looking at the ground.
"I was trying to make you some breakfast before you woke up." She kicked the ground gently. "But I'm not good at cooking." I smiled to her placing my hand on her head ruffling it gently. She gave me an annoyed look.
"It's ok I got this." I said with a smile. Walking past her to the stove cooking some eggs and pancakes.

After some breakfast we decided to go for a flight it felt nice to have Rainbow right next to me. "So where are we flying to Rainbow?" I asked smiling.
"We are going to visit Fluttershy." She smiled pulling ahead of me I kept at my speed so I could think.
As we flew through the clouds I listened to Celestia's words closely. 'What did she mean I had to protect this town?' I asked myself looking up to the sky seeing a hawk flying I turned sideways to drop closer to the ground. When I was low enough I leveled out flying very close to the ground. I saw a figure on the ground standing near a stone watching me as I passed He followed me by moving his head I looked back only to see he was gone. "Who was that?" I questioned speeding up towards Rainbow.
After a few minutes we landed near Fluttershy's cottage it was nice very homely looking even though it looked basic. "Hey Rainbow Why does she live so far away the town?" I looked to Rainbow who looked at me annoyed. "What?"
"You lived far away from town as well Frost." She pointed out I sighed.
"I know that but that was to escape my past Fluttershy isn't running from her past to my knowledge." I said explaining to her once again my reasoning.
"She is just really shy it is in her name." Frost smile to Rainbow.
"Well that does answer my question." I chuckled.
"Anyway we are seeing if Fluttershy is willing to help us find you a place." I looked at her with mock hurt.
"I have only stayed at your place for one day and you already want to kick me out." I said trying to be over dramatic. She looked at me with a deadpan stare that turned into a light blush.
"I don't mind you staying with me but I would think you would want a new place." She quicked her pace to Fluttershy's that's when I noticed that her door was open but that's what made me pause stopping Rainbow.
"Rainbow do me a favor go to Twilight's tell her we have a problem." I walked past her towards Fluttershy's cottage. The door was slightly de-hinged as if someone kicked the door open.
"GET YOU HANDS OFF OF ME!" I heard Rainbow yell I turned back to see Rainbow on the ground someone was on her back yanking the amplifiers out of her wings. I ran towards where they were only to be stopped by a pillar of green fire I turned to see who had done it seeing that same person who was watching me earlier.
"Who the hell are you?" I asked watching them carefully he pulled out a note tossing it towards me before disappearing in a flash of green I turned to see rainbow gone as well. I knelt down picking up the note I opened it reading it slowly.
'We have the elements come and get them.'
My hand tightened around the note crushing it I felt my blood boil. "You want a fight...?" I asked as I tightened my grip. "You got one." I took off violently flying towards the library. Spike can send the letter to Celestia while I did my job.

As I landed outside the Library I saw The door had been kicked open as well. I walked inside seeing Spike on the ground unconscious I shook him waking him from his unwanted sleep. "Ugh what hit me?" He rubbed the back of his head as if he was hurt. I helped him to his feet sitting him down on the couch.
"Spike listen to me carefully." I began making sure I had his attention. "Send a letter to Celestia telling her the elements are gone they were kidnapped and I am going to save them. Also send her the code: Frost. She will know what it means and send what it is needed." I slowly stood walking to the wall near the door picking up Serena I locked her on my belt knowing what I was going to do.
Spike was worried but wrote the letter along with the code to Celestia it only took a few seconds for her to reply. only one word was sent.
'EVACUATE!'
Spike shuddered knowing that if Celestia was this nervous then something surrounding Frost was something to fear. He began the long task of evacuating the town by Celestia's order.

I entered the Everfree Forest walking through the expanse of trees I heard growls coming from all around me but they dared not attack. "Stay out of my way." I whispered as the sounds came to a stop. I wasn't mad it was something else as if everything in my body was refusing to stop until everything was safe once again. No hatred, no sadness, only an untamed determination to save them from whatever took them from me.
A shot of Green lightning launched forward towards me tilting my head slightly the bolt flew past my face. I knew where the bolt came from but I didn't have time to fight this nuisance. That's what I thought but then I saw who it was that launched the bolt my blood froze it looked just like Rainbow Dash. she raised her arm launching another bolt of lightning. I took off towards the imposter I passed over but my hand caught onto something near it's forehead. "Imposter..." I said through my deadpan expression. My blade was swift cutting the horn near it's forehead off. The creature fell to the ground as it's disguise burned away. "Where are they?" I asked kneeling down the creature glared at me.
"Never tell." The creature said in broken Equestian. I swung my blade again cutting off a finger. The creature didn't bat an eye at this.
"Fine if cutting off a finger doesn't work." I swung my blade up, the changeling's arm fell to the ground. "Give me the information I want." I set the blade under it's second arm. "Or I keep cutting." The creature was now panicking.
"Hive... Ahead." I smiled before my expression disappeared raising my blade one final time I saw him pale as the blade disappeared into my sheath.
"Death..." I whispered walking away I saw the creature stand but that's as far as it got before falling to the ground in a pile of gore. "Don't worry Rainbow I'm coming." My words seemed to echo as I crossed into a clearing seeing a massive hive before me.
