A Simple Repair
Part 12: A Favor

It has been a week since me and rainbow started dating. I was sitting in my shop cleaning up Serith she needed an upgrade along with a new coat of paint. I heard a knock at my door I looked up wondering who it could be this early. "We are closed right now come back later." I stated going back to my work then I heard the door open. I set down my tools reaching over to Serena. When I saw who it was I relaxed. "Rarity, a pleasure to see you what can I do for you?" I asked with a smile.
"I just need a favor Frostwing." She bounced her hair smiling. "Since your so skilled with that blade you could easily do this." She was trying to be cryptic but oh well.
"No Rarity, beyond contrary belief I am not a hit-man." I said as a joke but she must have taken it the wrong way before she could go off on me I diffused the situation. "What do you need Rarity, I am more than happy to help." I was in a good mood Serith was almost complete and the design earlier this week was completed built and tested successfully.
"I have run out of gems for my work and I need to go resupply. Problem is there are diamond dogs in the area so I need some protection." She bounced her hair again. I smiled going back to work. "Are you trying to ignore me?" She asked appalled by me not answering her first.
"No Rarity, I just need to complete this upgrade on Serith first don't want to go into a fight flightless." I finished up rather quickly. "But anyway sure I can protect you if I said no Rainbow would kill me." I rubbed the back of my head nervously.
"Good now let us be off I need to fill this order tonight if I want it to get to the client on time." She left my home I quickly followed.
"Preaching to the choir sister." I whispered as we made our way to the diamond hills.

We made it to the diamond hills in a short amount of time Spike was with us. He was the digger for this excursion Rarity would find them with magic then spike would dig them up. I just watched from the sky. I noticed movement behind some rocks. I made a mental note of the location. I was about to land when I spotted movement again it seemed to be circling Rarity and Spike. "Well maybe I won't be just hovering here with nothing to worry about." I descended next to Rarity. "Keep calm but we are surrounded that means don't scream just let them come to us." I was sure to emphasize the word don't. I do like my hearing you know.
"What are we going to do?" Rarity asked me with concern. I only smiled.
"Talk to them." I said as if that was all we had to do. She was about to protest when I let out an ear shattering whistle. "Alright boys come out you're not fooling anyone go get your leader and bring him here." I stated with authority. I saw one stand up from his cover I noticed who it was. "Crusher? Crusher is that you?" I asked he noticed me as well.
"Frost!" He yelled running over to me giving me a strong handshake. "I thought you were dead I heard the news my condolences." I waved it off. "Everyone come out it's only Frost." Crusher yelled out towards the rocks the group that was most likely going to kidnap all of us then ransom us off came out a few of them smiled seeing me but then I notice a few new faces.
"I thought the last time I was here me and the boss had a nice long chat about kidnapping people?" Something wasn't right.
"Grinder passed away his son took over as boss brought back the old ways." Crusher told me with despair. I felt sorry for him.
"Crusher they are stealing our gems you know the rules." A diamond dog I didn't recognize said angrily. I glared at him.
"Dust, shut up do you even know who this is?"
"I don't care if he steals our gems he is our enemy."
"Dust was it do me a favor?" I asked him calmly. A few of the others backed away. "Learn some respect." I watched him carefully.
"You steal you don't deserve our respect." Ok I have had enough of this. I walked over to Dust.
"You are going to go get Grinder's son and bring him here or I will personally carve you to pieces." My tone was dark and dangerous. He was shaking out of fear. "Now what are you waiting for?" I asked he turned away running into a cave.
"I'm sorry Frost he is still new to this doesn't know the list of people not to mess with." Crusher placed his hand on my shoulder.
"Happens all the time you mind if we finish up our work here we can give you a cut." I was being polite I was taking these gems but I always pay a fee when I do.
"No way Frost I don't take payment from you. You're family and family doesn't pay." I smiled looking over to Rarity.
"Hey Rarity can you find a few good Gem veins and mark them for these guys it's a type of payment." I smiled when she nodded.
"I hate you sometimes Frost making the young ones jobs easy they won't know how to find gems with you making it this easy." Crusher was just being an ass but it was all in good fun.

After a few minutes Dust returned with a very large Person behind him. "I'm gonna guess that is the new boss." I pointed at the large man. Crusher nodded.
"Boss that's the man who is stealing our gems." Dust said as the man walked towards me he carried a large hammer. I only watched him carefully.
"Tiny man steal gems tiny man die." I listened to him I only shook my head.
"Ok I had to talk with your father about this now I have to tell you." I placed my hand on the side of his hammer. "Enough with your ignorance." I drew my blade and slashed the hammer just behind the head and sheathed my blade all in the same movement. "Now I am your friend not your enemy my name is Frostwing I was a friend of your father's." I watched as the head fell down to the ground. "Stop kidnapping people for money and find the gems." I turned towards Crusher. "If he keeps this up come find me in ponyville I'm by the canyon." I looked over towards Rarity.
"Sure thing Frost but what are you going to do?" I looked at him confused.
"I'm going to go home after seeing my girlfriend finish my work and go to bed." I smiled thinking about seeing Rainbow today.
The boss raised what was left of his hammer I drew my blade placing the tip against his throat. "Do not make me repeat myself." I glared at the man he moved his weapon towards the ground. "Good next time I will do more than just stop you." I sheathed my blade looking over to Rarity. "Are we ready to go?" She nodded quietly. "Great let us take our leave." I walked over to Crusher. "Stop by sometime I could use another good set of hands crafting." I shook his hand walking away from the hills with Rarity behind me she seemed to be keeping her distance.

We were about to reach Ponyville when Rarity stopped me. "Frost, Why didn't you just attack them?" Her question confused me.
"Why would I create senseless violence when I can resolve a situation peacefully?" I stated as if the answer was obvious.
"But you could have saved a lot of trouble by fighting." I looked at her with a sad look.
"I will not fight like a monster I will resolve without violence if I can if not then you will see a demon." I turned away taking to the sky. "I don't want to be like my brother so I don't kill unless I have to so I am asking you as a friend." I sighed heavily. "Just drop this subject and leave it be." I turned towards Rainbow's home rocketing off into the distance.
