//------------------------------// // Don't Feel Like Dancin'? // Story: I Don't Feel Like Dancin' // by Homeless-Jmart //------------------------------// There was Rainbow Dash once again at the most boring party in all of Equestria; the Grand Galloping Gala. To make matters worse she knew almost no one there. Sure the princesses were there: Twilight, Celestia and Luna; but they were to busy greeting every attendee to be bothered. Applejack, Rarity, and Fluttershy didn't go because of the way last year's Gala went, even though she personally didn't think it was too bad. The only reason she went there was because Pinkie Pie begged, and begged, and BEGGED her to come, so Rainbow Dash had no choice but to give in. Rainbow didn't see why Pinkie asked so much anyway, she hasn't seen her since they arrived together. So far the night was looking to be a total bust. She decided to start walking around the main hall where she began looking for Pinkie so she would at least have somepony to talk to, but after looking through almost everypony she saw neither head nor tail of her pink friend. She was just about ready to call it a night when she turned around and bumped into a purple alicorn. "Twilight!" "Rainbow! What are you doing here? You really didn't have to come." After checking around the room she leaned in and whispered into Rainbow's ear, "Is someone forcing you to be here?" "Well I guess you could say that." "Who is it?! I'll have them thrown in the dungeon!" "No not like that, Pinkie Pie just kept asking and asking me to come here with her and she wouldn't take no for an answer. Jeez Twilight, I've never seen you snap like that before." "Oh" she laughed, "sorry it's just that I've been up since 5 AM and it's going on 1 in the morning. I've had to greet every guest that showed up and I'm seriously tired." "Nah, its fine, but have you seen Pinkie anywhere?" "Actually no, but I'll keep an eye out for her." "Thanks, see ya around." Rainbow said as Twilight was once again swept up into the crowd. "Ugh, this is hopeless!" She said as she began to walk towards the exit. Then a waiter walking around offering the guests drinks turned around and smashed into Rainbow, spilling the plate full of drinks on her dress. "Hey!" She said, her fancy dress covered in all sorts of drinks and coctails. "I'm so sorry ma'am! Allow me to get you some-" "No, no, forget it." She said exasperated. "Just tell me where the lounge is." "Third to the left ma'am, and once again I am so sorry." "Yea, yea." She huffed already halfway there. *~*~*~*~*~*~* When Rainbow closed the door to the lounge she slowly walked to one of the sectionals laid around the edge of the room. Everypony in the room were either asleep on one of the couches, or sitting at the coffee bar right next to the entrance trying to sober up from all the night's drinks. There was a disco ball suspended above the dance floor, but instead of party music some type of jazz was playing. At least it's not as bad as the fancy music they're playing in the main hall. She thought to herself. Above the bar was a TV playing Equestria News, and surprise surprise, they have somepony reporting live at the Gala. After the report of a ravenous storm in Manehattan she began to feel her eyes closing. She quickly shot up when she felt her eyes closing again. She wanted to relax, but she didn't want to sleep in the Canterlot castle lounge tonight. She saw the pony working at the coffee bar just watching the news, so she decided to walk over and get something to keep her awake. After taking a seat on one of the stools the bartender walked over "Can I get you something?" he asked with a tired, but genuine smile. "Yea, can I get a double caffeinated Death Wish coffee with extra cream, extra sugar?" Rainbow asked returning his smile. "I hope you don't plan on sleeping tonight, or the next week if you drink that." He said as he began to brew the coffee. "Yea, but I just need to stay awake tonight." She said putting bits on the table. "Fair enough." He said giving her the coffee. The second she got back to her seat she saw the door swing open, and who else but Pinkie Pie walked into the room. The moment she spotted Rainbow she shouted "Dashie!" and bounced over to her and gave her a bone crushing hug. "Where have you been all night?" She asked after releasing Rainbow. "Where have I been? I was beginning to think you left without me, I looked all over for you." "Sorry, I was going around trying to get everyone to laugh and smile." She then took in the environment around her, "What's wrong with everypony?" "Everyone here is trying to sleep or get sober." "No, I mean everypony looks so unhappy, and you know what? I am going to be the one to cheer them up." "Pinkie I really don't think..." Rainbow began, but Pinkie was already off, getting some pop music to start playing. She pulled the first sleepy pony off of his couch and dragged him to the dance floor. After some uneasy hoofing he finally caught the beat, smiled, and started to dance. "Unbelieveable." Rainbow muttered under her breath. Pinkie went around the entire room, somehow managing to get every half sober and half asleep pony to dance. She got everypony in this room to dance, but not me. I guess she must not care enough to bother to get me on the floor. She thought dropping her head. "And last but certainly not least Rainbow Dash." Pinkie said walking over towards her. "Sorry Pinkie I don't feel like dancing right now." Rainbow said. "What, why?" She asked looking hurt. "I just don't like dancing, alright?” "Oh really?" She said with a smug smile. "Yea!" She said beginning to get irritated. "You don't like, or just can't?" Now, you'd think that the most awesome pony in all of Equrstria could dance right? Well you'd actually be wrong. "Alright, so I can't dance, so what." Rainbow said. "Well, if you tried I bet you could do it." She responded. "I would, but it's my hooves. When I hear music they just don't know what to do. Plus," she whispered into Pinkies ear, "I'm afraid of embarrassing myself." "It's alright Dashie. How about this, if you won't dance for me then dance with me." "W-what?" She asked. "You heard me, let's dance together." Pinkie said holding out her hoof. "I... don't know about this Pinks..." She said slowly reaching out her hoof. Pinkie took the initiative reaching further out, grabbing her hoof, and pulling her off of the sectional and walked her over the dance floor. "Pinkie I'm not so sure about this." Rainbow said looking at the dance floor with fear. "Come on Dashie, I Pinkie Promise it'll be fun." She said still leading her captive to the floor. "Pinkie you know what? I think I changed my mind." she said, backing up a bit. "Come on, let's go!" Before Rainbow Dash could protest any further she found herself being twirled towards the dance floor. "Alright now just follow my lead." Pinkie said. She started off with a soft-hooved sway, then as the music started to pick up Pinkie's movements got more advanced and complex. The entire room cleared out the center for her as they stared in awe. Meanwhile Rainbow was still just swaying back and forth in the back of the crowd, feeling put to shame by Pinkie's amazing dancing. Just as she was about to go back to her couch Pinkie made her way through the crowd, grabbing her and dragged her back to the center with her. She tried her best to get into some sort of rhythm, but to no avail. Noticing her friend's distress Pinkie walked over to her friend and took her hoof. Rainbow's face, which was pink before due to her embarrassment, was now a crimson red as Pinkie looked directly into her eyes. Rainbow never really noticed her beautiful blue eyes before, and the multicolored lights suspended above the floor almost made them look like a brilliant rainbow that was impossible to overlook. "Dashie, I need you to promise me you won't use you wings, you have to rely on you own four hooves." She said. Rainbow slowly nodded, half focusing, still mesmerized by her eyes. "Alright here we go." Pinkie said. Then, standing on her hind legs, she hoisted Rainbow over her head and tossed her in the air. When she lost eye contact with Pinkie the world came back to her all at once. That's also when she realized she was about ten feet in the air, her wings still folded against her. She was about to panic, yell and spread her wings to avoid the fall, but then she remembered what Pinkie had told her to do; to follow her lead and not to use her wings. She spread out her limbs and closed her eyes, hoping Pinkie would catch her. She braced herself as she began to fall back down. She closed her eyes hoping she won't hit the floor, then something she didn't expect happened. When Rainbow opened her eyes she was cradled in Pinkie's forehooves, and sure enough there were two beautiful blue pools looking down at her. "Wow." Rainbow said. "That was awesome Dashie! Are you ready for the finale?" "Finale?" "Yea the song's almost over." "Ok, lets do this." Then in an instant she was airborne again, just as the music reached its suspenseful climax before the final chorus. Everything seemed to slow down, she saw everypony looking up at her. Pinkie smiling up at her, and then everything came back. Her body went on instinct as she did two front flips before landing with all four hooves planted firmly on the ground. She then started dancing on her own and the crowd loved it. She was moving her hooves like she never did before, spinning, moonwalking, and absolutely tearing up the floor. Then just like that the song was over and everypony started cheering for them. They took a bow, and after a while the crowd decided to either leave, go back to the coffee bar, or crash on a couch or chair. Then Pinkie ran up to her and gave her a hug. "You were incredible Dashie!" She said in the embrace. "So, is there anything else you want to do tonight?" Rainbow Dash asked, still blushing from Pinkie's sudden hug. Pinkie pulled away a bit, her still holding Dash by her hooves. "Wellllll, I actually got really really bored of the Gala and you weren't there so I came out here looking for you and here you are but you looked a bit lonely and the ponies in here looked so much duller than the ones in the Gala so I decided to started an impromptu dance party and we had a blast so now I just wanna spend the night with you and do what you wanna do since you did do what I wanted to do so it's only fair to do what you want to do for the rest of the night." Pinkie said without a breath or pause. "What?" Rainbow asked, slightly confused. "What do you want to do tonight?" Pinkie said, gazing at Rainbow's magenta eyes with her own. "Uhh—" An idea popped up, making her grin. "You said that the ponies in the main part of the Gala looked bored right?" She asked, Pinkie responding with a nod. "Do you want to pull a prank on them?" Pinkie squeed giddily and bounced in place. She pulled Rainbow closer in her excitement and gave her a kiss on the lips. Rainbow's eyes grew wide and her wings stiffened up, her blush coming back with a vengeance. Pinkie's lips parted with her's leaving a pleasantly shocked Rainbow in place. "Oh this going to be so funneriffic! Oooo we'll need buckets full of frosting, a lot of pillows, a flugelhorn, a barrel of oil, some donuts, two cups of coffee and a Nimbus cloud!" Pinkie said before rushing out of the room. Rainbow stared at the spot where Pinkie was standing. "Hurry up!" Pinkie's voice called from the lobby. "But... What... I... You..." she stammered as the shock began to settle down. After comprehending what just happened, she began to smile a bit and started jogging to catch up to Pinkie. This night just keeps getting better and better...
