//------------------------------// // It was my fault... // Story: The perfect match // by Duragan //------------------------------// With the Changelings ravaging the once majestic capital kingdom and countless lives fleeing in all directions, the queen of the vicious horde looked on in glee. Throughout the crumbling kingdom, the element wielders had already been cocooned, the princesses had been defeated and the civilians and the guards rounded up and suppressed. Amit all of this though, a single stallion, weakened and mortally beaten looked on as the devastation took place all around him, now drained of his power, drained of any hope to fight, he remained restrained to the very shrine he was to wed his beloved. A day that should have been perfect, the catastrophe of realization that unfolded all around him and the incomprehensible price to pay for his neglect was felt heavily on his shoulders. And yet, the queen could only watch on in delight and from her stance as the ruler of this dying land, rose to her hind legs and gloated, "You stupid fool! Thanks so you, this day will be immortalized for generations to come for the Changeling race!" He was in no mood to retort. He could only watch the chaos unfold all around him. He had been for days under the influence of this monster that hung over him now. The vile creature that had the audacity to abduct his fiancée for a grand wedding, a day for the unity of love between the captain of the guard and the Princess of his dreams. How he could look past the imposter's rude attitude toward his sister's friends, her repugnant behaviour, her possessiveness. How he looked at it only as stress and a wanting need to have a perfect uneventful day. How could he have been so blind? So deceived? "You monster...!" he spluttered as his body ached "How dare you use my love for your sickening deeds! How dare you make me lose faith in my sister's trust! How dare you bring this upon my land!" "How am I the monster?" she cooed as she smirked before him face to face. "You were the one who convinced the princesses the wedding should go ahead anyway despite the dangers and jeopardising the safety of all Equestria, you were the one who lead all of Twilight's friends away from her because of your selfishness of putting a stranger's trust before your own family and you were the one gullible enough to believe in your 'Precious lover' over the obvious signs of trouble" she finished with a cackle. "If anything, you and I are much the same in that regard". "I am NOTHING like you!" he snarled, "You're just a parasite, leeching off of all those you made bow to your cynical whim!" She could only smile at this, for her it was a compliment. She lowered herself once again, face to face and retorted, "You mean like how YOU allowed all of this to happen despite your duties as the captain of the guard, leeching off of the trust of your lover and promising how she would have your sister as her 'In-law' to agree to the wedding in the first place neglecting your duties as the captain?" "W... What?!" he spluttered, "You could have prevented ALL of this whenever you liked, but you didn't. And now behold the result of it all". "N...No! You're wrong!" "Your promises to bring about unity between you and your lover was purely because you promised her your sister to become part of her family. How sickening it is you kicked her out of your own wedding to have this made regardless proved that you were using her, just as I was using you". "No... It, can't be! It’s not, it wasn't like that! You..." "Did you honestly think that anyone would fall in love with someone who uses others for their own selfish needs? She is fully aware of your promises that you have broken and she fell apart when this realisation took place. Poor dear". "You... I...." "You see? You would never win her heart with a broken promise like that. I on the other hoof, kept my promise to find food for my starving subjects, and it was no trouble at all, thanks to you, my dear". He had no words left to save himself. The cackling creature was right, for all his blindness to his duties and his promises, he could only think of himself during all of this. He lowered his head in shame as the world came crashing down all around him. A string of errors that led to all of this... who would want him? What right minded pony would want his broken promises for an offering of love? "You and I truly are one in the same. We are both monsters in our own way. We will make a perfect couple" the queen said as her horn glowed the same cursed green aura and soon consumed his body. The stallion stood up feeling a small but essential urge of power rising, "I will NEVER love you!" he snapped, but his efforts still fell in vain as he looked down and felt his hooves burning with something he had never felt before. He looked as the green flame soon began to burn his hooves and he looked on in shock as his white coat was slowly being replaced with a burnt black one with visible holes in. "What?! NO!!" "You see? Unlike your fellow ponies who are undergoing the crystallisation as we speak, the flashes I kept giving to you was already reshaping your metabolism. And now with your energy fully depleted, you have only one source of energy left to keep you going now. Mine!" She laughed as she watched the stallion slowly change before her. His white coat burnt into a lifeless black, his mane and tail turning the same repulsive blue that the beast before him was and his cutie mark, the sign of protection fading away now being rendered useless. His teeth reshaped to the sharp long shape of demonic fangs and his eyes turning slit like, that he could see in his reflection in the same eyes of the queen, left him only as a shell of what he once was. "You are now all mine" she smirked looking him over "You will make a wonderful husband, because I am now the only one you know will accept you now". Nothing was said from the changed pony now. What could he say? "This day has been just perfect" she smiled as the rest of Canterlot was engulfed in her wrath. Next stop, the rest of Equestria!
