~Chapter 1

It was a cold morning. The sky was darkened and hidden behind thick clumps of grey storm clouds. An alarming sound rang throughout the not-so-silent bedroom of Rainbow Dash's. It had just been her alarm that seemed as if it may have been broken, because it woke her up three hours too early. So the mare just shrugged and turned her clock off, then joyfully plummeted face first into her pillow.

Once again, she heard a disturbing sound interrupt her slumber. Only this time it wasn't her alarm clock, but it was a sound of knocking at her bedroom door.

The pegasus bolted upwards. She wasn't expecting anypony today, at least not before the sun had a chance to even rise. She had forgotten how tired she was when she heard the door slowly open with a loud creek.

The pegasus looked around anxiously trying to find a nearby object she could defend herself with.

Ah hah!

The rainbow haired pony grabbed her pillow and chugged it towards the figure that stood in her doorway. The object collided into the silhouette, sending a loud yelp from the creature.

"I'm a trainee at the Wonderbolt Academy!" Rainbow Dash shouted confidently, hoping that this thing might have an idea of just how awesome the Wonderbolts were.

"Oww." The shadow manage to say as a result of pain.

"Wait that isn't a monster-thing..." Rainbow Dash rubbed her chin with her fore-hoof as she began to think quietly to herself. "Scootaloo?"

"Oww. What was that for Rainbow D-Dash?" The familiar voice said from outside her doorway.

The pegasus flew off her bed and towards the barely injured pegasus. "Sorry Squirt, I thought you were some *ahem* burglar or something..." Rainbow Dash felt her face grow warm as her younger sibling stared at her doubtfully.

"So. *ahem* Why did you decide to stop in my room at four am?" Rainbow Dash asked as she leant the filly a helping hoof.

"Well, you see..." She began as she stood back on all fours. "I was doing a class project, and needed to get your permission so I can participate in the annual talent show."

Rainbow Dash chuckled softly. "Okay, sure Squirt." The pegasus turned on the bedroom light, and soon every corner of the room was showered in a bright light source.

"I'll be right back! I have to get the permission slip--" And with that Scootaloo bolted out the room and ran as fast as her legs would allow her to go. She ran loudly through the hallways, the house was so quiet that all Rainbow Dash could hear was the sound of wind, running, and knocking...

"Wait... Knocking...?" Rainbow Dash knew she had heard knocking moments ago, but she had clarified that it was Scootaloo. But, her sister wasn't here anymore, and the knocking seemed to have commenced somehow....

"M-Maybe it's just the rain..." The brave pegasus told herself as she walked to the far end of her room.

"Yeah it's just the rain--"

Rainbow Dash ended her sentence midway when she saw a tall figure standing outside her window. This figure had a very slender body, and wore a deep black suit. It didn't seem recognizable to her. In fact it didn't appear normal to her at all.

"What... W-what..." Rainbow Dash backed away from her window, and as she did the figure bend low enough for it to be able to look right at her through the glass.

She screamed as the creature eyed her. It was faceless and had tentacles extending from behind. It raised a hoof and tapped on her window roughly to the point where it began to form a crack.

Then, without warning a loud crackle of thunder exploded from outside and all the power from Rainbow Dash's bedroom went out.

The mare opened her mouth to scream, but the words wouldn't come out. She tried to run, but it felt as if her hooves were glued in place.

"Somepony help!!!"

And within a few seconds the power came back on, and a wet orange colored filly ran in.

"Rainbow Dash I heard you scream! Are you okay?" Scootaloo asked.

"I wasn't screaming..." Rainbow Dash said as she stared towards the window with frightened eyes.

"Oh yeah. The power went out, so I ran outside to turn it back--"

"Did you see it?" Rainbow Dash said quietly, as her eyes darted towards her sister and the slightly cracked window.

"No... I didn't see anything.. Why?" Scootaloo asked worriedly.

"N-Nothing. I just though I saw something... So... Where do I sign?" Rainbow Dash asked, hoping to change the topic of their short dialogue.

"Oh. Here."

Rainbow Dash grabbed a quill in her mouth and began to scribble her signature onto the paper. At the corner of her eye she could have sworn she saw the slender figure standing at the very same spot... Watching her from a distance...

'It's just my imagination... It's just my imagination.... It's not real.... It's not real...'

She handed the paper back to her sister, who decided not to question her guardian sister any further. Rainbow Dash tucked her younger sibling in bed and cowardly walked back towards her bedroom that stood at the end of the hallway. As she slowly opened the door it opened to reveal... nothing.... Her room was as it normally was.

The window was not shattered, there was no tall creature watching her from afar... So could it be she had dreamt this entire scenario up. Well the blackout really did happen, but the slender creature most certainly was fake. She must have been hallucinated from the exhaustion.

"Note to self, go to bed early from now on..." And with that the cyan-mare drifted off the bed once again.
