//------------------------------// // Green Garden Final Act (Patched) // Story: Button Mash and The Quest to Rescue Sweetie Belle // by JamesBurton //------------------------------// Now Loading… Produce Factory: Outside "Well, here we are Button," Golden Heart announced as he looked at the factory with a stern look on his face. "The Produce Factory." Button Mash looked at the factory, determined to throw a wrench in Codex's evil plans. "Are you sure that this is the place, Golden Heart? Because it looks like a greenhouse, not a factory." Golden Heart slowly turned and faced Button Mash with a blank expression. "It is a greenhouse Button, how else would Black Breath be able to grow food, that's number one, number two, I work here, so of course I know what it looks like." "Well, ask a stupid question, would you." Button muttered to himself, facehoofing at his own stupidity. "Then I suppose you know where this vault is then," he turned back to his companion. Golden Heart looked back at the factory, scratching his mane. "Uh, yeah about that. I have absolutely no idea where the vault is." "Then how do you even know that a vault exists?" Button asked, looking annoyed. "And do you even know what's in said vault?" "Something very important to Codex." He said. "Look, today a gray pegasus I've never seen before came to the factory. He said something about protecting the vault and he spoke of a chain." Button Mash looked lost in thought as Golden Heart told him what he knew. "Gray pegasus… chain? Okay, I know that chain probably goes to Codex's Castle… But that gray pegasus..." "Hmmm, what about a gray pegasus?" the tan pegasus asked, shooting a look of concern to Button Mash. "Button, are you okay? Do you know that pegasus? "Golden Heart, what did this pegasus look like?" Button shakily asked. It can’t be him! There's no way it could be him! Unless... Did Rumble receive a copy of the game too!? Golden Heart closes his eyes in thought. "Hmm, well he was about your height, and had a jet black mane. I wish I could tell you more but that's all I know." "I see…” Button trailed off, getting lost in his thoughts once more. “Thank you Golden Heart," Button dully said, his mind somewhere else. "Well, come on then, let’s go." Golden Heart silently watched Button Mash walked to the factory, his face showing he was distracted by something. He ignored this and strode on forward with determination, motivated by the knowledge that Green Village will be free and all will be well if they succeed today. But for Button Mash? His thoughts seemed to be somewhere else. ‘I'm gonna get you back for punching me in the face’ kept echoing in his head. The Produce Factory Button Mash and Golden Heart entered the factory and quickly scanned the place for any guards that might be patrolling the area. “So, Golden Heart, where do we go now?” Button asked, eyes still darting around in case anypony is wandering around. They were in a large, glossy room. As Button expected, it was surprisingly empty. There was a desk at the end of the room, where he assumed a secretary stayed. In the wall behind it, there were cheesy posters with Codex’s face on them, like one with Codex hanging from a branch, captioned ‘Just hang in there!’ Other than that, there was nothing else, save for large metal door on each side of the room. "This is the main entrance, then we have the east and west wings of the factory." Golden replied, . "From here on out, I have no idea what we do from here." "You can’t be serious,” Button rolled his eyes as he face-hoofed in exasperation. “You mean to tell me all this time, you never planned for this? And you decided to just trot in here with no clue of what we have to do?” Golden Heart just shrugged, a sheepish smile plastered to his face. "Awesome,” Button sarcastically grunted, “Anyways, let’s look around. Maybe we can find something useful.” The two ponies each went to one side and started searching top to bottom for anything that could be useful. “This… is… dumb…” the brown pony muttered to himself as he was absently staring at the walls and floor, trying to find something that might not even be there. "Hey, Button?” Button’s head perked up at the mention of his name. “I found something, I think,” Golden announced. He was behind the desk, staring downwards to the floor. As Button rushed to his side, he saw what his companion was looking at, a huge metal cellar door with three locks shutting it in place. “Where’s the best place to put a vault, eh?” Golden smirked as he knocked his hoof on the floor. Button Mash looked down at the floor. "Right under our noses. I'll admit that's pretty clever, but-" He examined at the three empty key slots. "We're still missing three keys." "Two," corrected Golden Heart. "Black Breath's key must be one of them, and the other two must be in the east and west wings of the factory.” The tan pony excitedly ran to the west side, looking through the glass door before turning back to Button. “Okay, I’ll take this side, you take the other side.” Golden Heart opened the door and stepped past it, sticking his head back in the room to address Button. “Once we find the keys, we’ll meet up back here, alright?” Before Button could object, Golden slammed the door and went on his way. “How do you even know the keys are here?” Button blurted out the question, letting it hang in the air as he stared blankly at the door Golden Heart just entered. He gave a resigned sigh, turning his head towards the other door. "Well, I'd better get started," Button said to himself as he ran into the east entrance to locate the missing key he needed to progress. "Okay, now to find that-" Button’s jaw dropped while looking at the mini-jungle that engulfed the eastern wing. There was a galore of plants and trees here, the greenery as thick as an ogre’s skin. Button already knew that he’d have a hard time travelling through this jungle. "-key. Well, Button." He sighed to himself as he traversed through the jungle. "I guess that this is one of those power through moments." "Button… Hey… Button." Button’s whole body twitched in alarm. He quickly turned his head left and right, although he saw nothing. He scratched his mane worriedly. “This humidity must be affecting me worse than I thought, I’m starting to hear voices!” "Button, don't be stupid. It’s me, Sweetie Belle." Button's ears perked up at the name of his lovely girlfriend. "Sweetie Belle! Oh man, is it good to hear your voice again!" Sweetie Belle giggled at her coltfriend’s excitement. "It’s good to hear from you too Button, but calm down for a second, I have something very important to tell you." Button Mash spotted a chest in the middle of a clearing. "Okay, tell me what?" he asked, ducking past the vines hanging above him and making his way to the chest. He smiled as he placed both hooves on the chest. “Hnng- there we go,” he grinned as he opened the chest, revealing a single golden key laying immaculately at the bottom of the chest. “Bingo,” he smiled as he bent down and grabbed the key with his mouth. "Button, have you noticed something off about this?" Sweetie asked. "Other than just finding the key that I needed, no I haven't." He replied happily. Sweetie Belle sighed at Button's obliviousness. How he could maintain A's and B's in school was beyond her. " Button, baby, did you happen to notice the amount of guards here?" "Pshhhff, What guards?" he smugly shot back. "Golden Heart and I have been here for twenty-five minutes, and we haven’t seen a single guard. And look,” Button pointed to the key still in his mouth, “I already got one of the keys! This is almost too easy!” "Exactly." Button Mash stopped dead in his tracks, eyes wide open in terror. He didn’t think this could be a trap. Could Golden Heart have come to the same conclusion? Or did he get captured, or worse? Button’s ears dropped down in grim realization. “OH CRAP!” he yelled, almost dropping the key in his mouth before quickly biting on it again. “That was close,” he muttered, placing the key under his hat instead, for safety. "Button, listen to me," Sweetie Belle sternly commanded, trying to get the brown colt’s attention. "Codex knew that you would come here, he knew that you would head towards the vault and he has a monster named Varga to protect it. I wish I could be more helpful to you but using telepathy takes up a lot of magic and this is my first time using this, so before I go, watch out for the-" "Sweetie, SWEETIE!" Button Mash desperately called out for his fillyfriend, waiting for a response. All he heard in response was silence. "Man, how could I be so STUPID!?" He  frantically main room, plowing through the vegetation in a frenzy. "Golden Heart! GOLDEN HEART, WHERE ARE YOU!?" He bursts through the door, only to find the main room empty as usual, save for the desk and the posters. “Oh horseapples,” he breathed, “OH HORSEAPPLES THIS IS NOT HAPPENING.” He was starting to really panic when a tan pony came crashing through the other door. “Button!” Golden Heart yelled with another key sticking out of his saddlebag, “What happened? Did you break a leg or something? I heard you shouting!” “GOLDENHEARTCODEXKNEWWEWERECOMINGTHAT’SWHYTHEREARENOGUARDSANDWEGOTTHEYKEYSANDVARGA-” Button was suddenly interrupted by a slap to the face, followed by intense shaking. “Calm down!” Golden said, both front hooves on Button’s shoulders, still shaking him violently. “What are you saying? "I think what he's trying to say is that you two are screwed." Button Mash and Golden Heart jump a bit, both startled, then look around the room for the source of the voice. For some reason, it took them a while to notice the dark portal appearing behind the desk. The bodiless voice boomed once more. “Fillies and gentlecolts, please put your hooves together for our esteemed guess. Introducing your main event, the all-powerful and awesome swagtacular, the super spectacular, the god-lord-king of this land, the amazing CODEX!” The unicorn king himself stepped out of the portal and onto the desk, fireworks accompanying his entrance shooting out of the portal. Codex took a pose flaunting his cape, reminding Button of a  certain ‘great and all-powerful’ unicorn he knew from Ponyville. “Prepare for your demise, fools!” the evil pony announced, turning around and showcasing his cape. “By the way, what do you think of the cape? My fashion designer told me all the great rulers had one, and that these colors look ‘divine’ on me.” With a clap of his hooves, the portal behind him disappeared. "CODEX!!!" screamed Button Mash as he charged at the dark figure standing atop the desk, only to phase through him. “Wha-” he blurted before he hit the wall behind the desk with a sickening thud. Codex simply stared at his cape. “Really? Is it that bad? Hmmm… I don’t know, I like it. Anyway, what are a bunch of no-name peasants like you doing interrupting my schemes? I don’t even know you ponies.” Button Mash could not believe his ears. Was this stallion really that dense? They had only met a few hours ago and he already forgot? "Alright then Codex, I'll tell you who I am. My name is Button Mash and I'm going to be the pony who takes you down!" He looks at Codex with intense anger in his eyes. "Remember that!" "Oh is that right?" Codex jokingly quivered in fear. "Are you feeling brave, little pony?" He bellowed an evil laugh. “Fine, come to my castle. No need to call, I love guests. You’re gonna have a great time there! We’re going to play board games, have fondue and oh, right, I’m going to kill you there.”  The dark energy surrounds the evil king. "Doesn’t that sound great? I’ll be expecting you there, Button Mash." He laughed maniacally as shadows began to creep up towards him, rising up and engulfing him completely before disappearing, taking him along with them. Button Mash stared at the spot where the evil king once stood. "Come on Golden Heart," he said with complete seriousness in his voice. "Let’s use the keys and head to the vault." "Yeah, okay,” Golden shook his head, still a bit frazzled by the up-close encounter he had with the legendary Codex. They walk to the other side of the desk, the metal door right under their hooves. “Button, give me your key,” Golden requested. Button took off his cap and grabbed the key under it with his hoof, reaching it out towards Golden. The pegasus got his key and set it in it’s proper hole. He did the same for the key he found and Black Breath’s key which were safely tucked in his saddlebag. “So, what do you think we’ll find on the other side?" the tan pony asked while placing the last key in its lock. “I heard there’s some monster named Varga hiding down there,” the brown pony shrugged, “other than that, I know just as much as you.”          The two ponies were interrupted as the ground beneath them began shaking violently. “W-w-w-what’s ha-happening?” Button stammered, barely managing to stay on his own four hooves. Suddenly, they felt themselves lowering, the floor of the main room rising higher and higher as they descended downwards. "Oh, this is an elevator!” Golden Heart said as he finally calmed down. He looked up at the roof of the greenhouse, slowly becoming farther and farther away as they keep going under. “Really now?” Button rolled his eyes. The metal platform they were on comes to a stop right in front of a huge, circular stone door. With a loud crackle and churning sounds, the stone slowly rolled to the side, revealing the entrance to a new area. Button Mash and Golden Heart exited the elevator and cautiously entered the new room. It was a very large room, almost dome-like, covered in vines and other flower-like things. There the plantlife ran wild here, even  more so than it did in the wings. There were dim torches surrounding the room, giving it an eerie glow. The two ponies nervously checked their surrounding, both getting the feeling that something was about to go horribly wrong. "Golden Heart,” Button nudged the pony next to him. "Yes?" Button Mash looked at the room, feeling quite uneasy about this whole situation.  "I have a very bad feeling about this." The large stone that blocked the door they came through suddenly rolled back into place, blocking the doorway. Vines sprouted out from the ground and ceiling, covering up the door in a layer of dense greenery, further blocking the only means of escape for the two ponies. "You don't say,” Golden Heart narrowed his eyes towards Button. All of a sudden, the ground started to tremor once more, causing the two ponies to hug each other in fear. Both had their eyes shut tight in fear, neither of them unable to tell whether the shivering came from the ground, them or their partner. “B-B-BUTTON, WH-WH-WHAAAT IS TH-THA-THAAAAT?” "I-I th-think it’s-" Before he could answer, a giant flower-like creature rose from the ground to the height of a two-storey building. It had a thick, tough looking green stem and red petals that were closed up like the petals of a rose. Button Mash and Golden Heart opened their eyes, both jaws almost hitting the floor as they watched the beast’s petals slowly open up. Under the petals, it had a mouth, which opened to reveal rows and rows of sharp teeth, circumferencing a bottomless pit of the mouth. The two ponies quickly let go of each other and slowly took a few steps back, only for the creature to lean in closer as they moved. Parasitic Plant Life-form              Varga "MOVE NOW!!!" Golden Heart screamed. Button Mash and his ally in arms Golden Heart split up as a vine shot out from Varga’s stem, shooting towards where Button and Golden were just standing a few seconds ago, ripping apart the plant life that obstructed it. Button could barely let out a sigh of relief as another vine shot out from the creature’s stem once more, and then another, and then another as Button struggled to keep up his speed, jumping over vines and ducking over others to avoid getting hit by the plant attacks. On the other side of the dome, Golden Heart was doing the same, except he let out a high pitched yelp whenever one of the vines almost hit him. "Button! Why is flower so HUGE!?” Golden Heart yelled as he barely jumped over one of the vines that shot out at a deafening speed with enough force to crush a pony’s ribs. “And how do we beat it?” Golden stumbled backwards as a vine came up in front of him. The evil plant let out a terrifying roar as green vines began to rise from the ground, trying to grab Button and Golden. The tan pegasus took to the sky, circling around the dome and skillfully evading whatever came from Varga’s stem, making his way towards Button and lifting the flightless earth pony with his forelegs, gripping the brown pony’s tail and yanking him upwards. Golden struggled to dodge vines coming from two directions, twisting and turning to evade both the vines coming out from Varga’s stem and those shooting up like spikes from the ground. “Button,” the tan pegasus huffed, “you need to think of something fast!” Golden’s eyes widened in surprise as he corkscrewed downwards, barely evading the vines that time. “I don’t know if I can keep this up any longer.” Button frantically pounded his head in thought, ignoring the nausea coming from being yanked around while being held upside down from the tail. He tried coming up with some theory, some explanation, anything to explain Varga’s massive size. Come on, come on! Think Button, think, or we'll end up like the plants in Green Village. He gasps in realization, “THAT’S IT! THAT’S HOW-” Button was cut short as he felt himself falling down, looking up to see a green tendril pierce the area between him and his pegasus friend, almost grazing his tail. Golden quickly darted down and grabbed Button’s tail again, this time with his mouth. “You were saying?” Golden Heart struggled to ask with Button’s tail in his mouth.         “I think what Varga’s doing is siphoning the energy from the plants around Green Village. That’s why he’s so big!” Button explained, yelping again as Golden violently swerved to dodge another vine.         “So when we defeat this thing, the crops will flourish again,” Golden inferred, eyes brightening. “And Green Village will be saved!” "Well, it’s just a theory," Button Mash sheepishly reminded him. One of the parasite’s arms shot up from the ground, wrapping itself around Button’s foreleg, yanking him violently out of Golden’s grip. Button could do nothing as the the tendril flung him towards the wall with a brutal thud, landing Button right next to one of the torches. Button groaned on the ground, still dazed by the impact. He can faintly make out the figure of a pegasus dodging vine after vine, his vision still very hazy. The only thing he could see clearly is the torch hanging directly above him. Wait. The torch gave him an idea. He quickly got up, when he saw Golden still zipping up and down trying to avoid vine after vine. “Golden Heart! I need you to distract Varga!” He rolled his eyes at Button Mash while dodging more vines. "I think I'm already doing that!" he said as-a-matter-of-factly.                   "Good, keep it up!" Button quickly grabbed a torch from the wall. He ran towards Varga, zig-zagging left and right as tendrils tried to smash him, missing only by inches every time. “Hey ugly!” he called the beast. Varga turned at the mention of his name, menacingly growling at the young colt with the burning stick in his mouth. “Want a nice little snack?” Button teased, turning around and shaking his flank tauntingly at the beast. Varga roared in response. Now’s my chance, Button thought, so he threw the torch into the roaring beast’s mouth.         The mutant flower gobbled up the torch whole, recoiling in pain. Its vines became slower and more sluggish as time went by, making it easier for the two heroes to evade his attacks. “I think it worked,” cheered Golden as he watched the giant flower sway back and forth with smoke coming out of his mouth. Suddenly, all of Varga burst into flames with it writhing in pain and screeching in agony. "Thank you Pokémon,” Button Mash smugly grinned as he watched the giant plant burn. An exhausted Golden Heart landed next to him with a confused expression. "What's a Pokémon?" he asked. Button Mash just smiled and shook his head. "Nevermind, it’s nothing." The two watched the defeated monster with smiles on their faces, both sweating and tired from the battle. “We really should get back,” Button huffed, “I could use a nice rest.” “You said it,” Golden agreed. "Oh, I do hope Golden Heart and Button Mash are alright,” Silver Song sighed as she watched Dazzler and Thunderbird fool around. She was worried about the two stallions who left over an hour ago. Her thoughts were occupied by ‘what ifs’ and such, the worst case scenarios coming to mind. No, she told herself as she unconciously slammed a hoof to the table. They’ll be alright. They have to be. "Mama?” The sound of Misty’s voice made Silver jump in her seat. “Sorry, Misty,” the dark blue unicorn gave a soft smile, “I was thinking about something.” Misty just looked at her as if she was puzzled. “Okaay…. anyway, what’s this?” Silver Song squinted to what her daughter was pointing at, not seeing anything. But then she saw it. A small beam of light penetrating their dusty window. “Could it be?” she wondered to herself as she stood up and walked outside, like she was in a trance. Misty, Dazzler, and Thunderbird stuck their head out the doorway, curiously observing their ‘mama’. “Mama, what’re you doing-” Thunderbird was cut short as all the three young ponies’ eyes widen in shock at what Silver Song was looking at. The dark gray layer covering the sky was fading away to reveal a brilliant blue under it with a bright yellow orb shining brightly.  Silver Song’s eyes were getting teary as she witnessed the transformation over the whole village as more and more ponies came out and saw what was happening. “They did it,” she almost laughed because she was so happy, “they really did it.” "Lord Codex, Varga has fallen, and the first chain has been broken." Codex stoped admiring himself in the mirror. "Really? Aww man, bummer. Anyway, Scarlet, what do you think of my new cape?" He wrapped it around himself. "I thought it would clash with my gray coat, but I like the cape, capes are cool." Scarlet facehoofed at her lord’s stupidity. "Really, Lord Codex? Varga's dead and your main concern is ‘does my cape clash with my coat?’ What about that earth pony?" The Evil King turned around back to his mirror. "I seem to recall that you wanted a piece of Button Mash next." "Oh yesss I do," shuddered Scarlet, biting her lip. "I can’t wait to meet him in person." Her horn lights up with red magic. "Oh the things I'm going do to him, I hope he likes it… rough." She laughed and disappears from her master in a flash of crimson. "Okay, she needs help," said Codex as he continued to admire himself in the mirror. "Lots of help." "Golden Heart, Silver Song thank you for everything." Golden Heart and Silver Song look at each other then back at Button Mash. "Button, we should be the ones thanking you,” replied Silver Song. "Yeah, none of this would be possible without you Button, but are you sure you have to go?” added Golden Heart. “You could stay with us. Help us rebuild. Heck, I’m sure the village would gladly let their savior stay here.” Button Mash slowly nodded his head. “Yeah, still have to find Sweetie Belle and punch Codex's face in. Thanks for the offer but-" The brown colt paused, “Actually, Golden, do you mind if I ask you a favor?” "Yeah, sure. Anything, Button Mash," he smiled as he put a hoof on Button’s shoulder. "I need a lift to the next island." Golden Heart nodded dutifully at Button Mash's request. "Consider it done." "WAIT!!!" Misty, Thunderbird, and Dazzler ran out of the house and tackled Button Mash in a group hug. "Button, Mama said we can grow food again thanks to you," Misty said. "And that bright yellow thing in the sky is so warm and bright," added Thunderbird. "Big Bro called it a sun or something." "Thank you for helping our town Button," finished Dazzler. Button Mash smiled at the three foals. "No problem. Just don’t give Silver and Golden a hard time." He broke the hug and walked over to Golden Heart. "Are you ready to go Button?" Button Mash nodded his head. "Alright, let’s go then.” “So, uh, how do we do this?” Golden sheepishly smiled, “Well, I guess you… uhh… get on my back.” Button uncomfortably nodded and climbed on Golden’s back. “Doesn’t this feel a bit… uhh… weird?” Golden shrugged. “I don’t know. It’s only weird if we make it weird… Do you think it’s weird?” “No, do you?” “No, I guess.” “Huh. Okay then.” Now Loading...Blue Beach "Alright this is good enough, Golden Heart." After Golden Heart landed on a sandy beach, Button Mash hopped off his back and looks around. "Thanks for the lift," he waved as Golden Heart took off back in the air. "No problem Button Mash, and again thank you so much." He flew away back to Green Garden. The earth pony smiled and lookd at the ocean. "You did a good thing Button Mash," He said to himself, reflecting on all he had done the past day. "Excuse me, Button Mash?" He turned around to the sound of the voice. "Yes?" Before he could even react our young hero was hit with a very powerful magical spell right in the face. Before he passed out he could have sworn he heard somepony say. "Now you're ALL MINE BUTTON MASH! HAHAHAHA!" Saving... Save Completed...
