//------------------------------// // Chapter 1 - Sunrise // Story: My Summer's Sunset // by RunDevilRun007 //------------------------------// My Summer's Sunset By: 007 Morning in Canterlot...Starting it off the same way I always do, getting awoken by an alarm clock...I really hate school days. Only one thing has made it bearable these past few months...Her... I got myself dressed and headed downstairs, my family finally got all our stuff unpacked and the boxes are gone, guess we're really here to stay...I can't say Canterlot's a bad city, it's nice, but I do miss my old home...I fit in there. Here...Not so much. I walked into the kitchen and of course my parents were already there, mom preparing breakfast while dad reads the paper and gets ready to go to work. I sat down and started eating when my mother asks "So, have you made any new friends at your new school, sweetie?" "Not really..." I respond. I had made a couple friends, but nothing too close knit. My dad looked over his paper at me "Any girls taken a liking to you, son? or vice-versa?" I am a bit hesitant to tell them about...Her, but I do so anyway, "Yeah, actually...There is this one girl at school I've seen around..." My dad chuckles "Atta boy, so when are you gonna introduce us to her?" He says in his semi-joking tone. "When I actually talk to her..." I mutter. "Now, honey, you're never going to win this young lady's heart by not talking to her, just go up and say hello." My mom comments. "It's a bit more complicated than that, mom..." I responded. It really was much more complicated than that. This girl has some kind of reputation around school, not to mention she rarely seems to talk to anyone except this group of 5 girls. Apparently just a few weeks before I transferred here, at the fall formal, this girl, Sunset Shimmer, did something...Nobody will really tell me what she did, all I know is it was big and caused a lot of damage. They made her out to be some kind of monster...She doesn't look all that bad to me... Later on at school, I walked through the halls and saw her again, Sunset Shimmer. She was as beautiful as ever, her long red and yellow hair that resembled a fire, her beautiful light greenish blue eyes, and she always wore a leather jacket which I found to be very cool. She walked my direction and I knew I had to say something, if I didn't, she would end up with some other guy. As she walked towards me all I could think to say was "Hi." She stopped, looked at me for a second and responded with a "Hi..." She seemed rather nervous, maybe because of what she did before? I don't really know, all I know is now I have to think of something else to say to her. "So, um..." Just then I was cut off by the class bell ringing, Damnit! School is always getting in the way! Sunset looked at me for a second and said "I...Gotta get to class, see ya." And quickly walked off. "Oh great, smooth as ever..." I thought to myself. Just then, one of my buddies put his hand on my shoulder and said "You actually said something to her instead of gawking? You're moving up in the world!" "Yeah...Thanks, Storm..." I responded annoyedly. Storm Cloud was the kind of friend who loved to joke about things like that. But he's a cool guy, I guess. I walked off to class and as usual I struggled to pay attention, all I could think about was Sunset, I wanted to talk to her, but when I look at her...I just freeze. After the first class let out, I saw Sunset again, talking to her group of 5 friends. I knew who the girls were, I had never met them but I knew them by reputation. Rarity's the most popular girl in school, Rainbow Dash is the captain of like every team in school, Fluttershy works at the local vet's office where we took our cat recently, Pinkie Pie is the head of the Glee club and plans most of the school dances and parties. And the other girl I know very little about...Applejack, I think her name was... I looked to my friend Storm and asked him what he knew about Sunset's relation to those 5 girls was. "Oh, I dunno, she started hanging out with them after the fall formal incident. I remember overhearing something about them teaching her something about friendship...I dunno what that means though..." Maybe, like me, she has difficulty making friends. That could be a common ground we have...But what could I use as an icebreaker with her? Bah, I'll think of something at lunch, she usually sits alone, so maybe I'll get a chance to talk to her then. Just then the bell for next period rang, off to another boring class I won't pay attention to... After another particularly boring class I will probably flunk because I didn't pay attention, I was walking by the music room, the door was open slightly and I saw those 5 girls talking to Sunset Shimmer again...I leaned in to hear what they were saying. "It seems to me he likes you, Darling." Rarity commented "Yeah, so what's the big deal?" Asked Rainbow Dash "The big deal is...I...I don't know...I haven't had a boyfriend since Flash, and what if he finds out about what happened last fall? And he doesn't..." Sunset started before she was cut off by Rarity "Now that's quite enough. What's done is done. This could be a big step for you, Sunset Shimmer." "Ah agree, We're not tellin' ya to go out with the boy, but at least talk to him, make friends, this would help you learn more about friendship, ya know." Agreed Applejack. Sunset sighed "Yeah, well...I don't know..." Rarity put her hand on Sunset's shoulder "Look, do you want to learn about friendship or not?" Sunset simply nodded in response "Then don't let this opportunity escape. Make a friend." "Oooh! You could talk to him now since he's outside the door!" Yelled Pinkie Pie. Just then I took off and ran for my life, I didn't want them to think I was eavesdropping. I heard them talk from around the corner as they walked out. "Ah don't see anyone out here, Pinkie." "Aw, but I saw him, he was looking at us through the door! He must be shy..." Said pinkie. "Or you scared him off with your comment about him bein' at the door." Replied Applejack annoyedly. I decided it was best to just keep walking at that point, the next class was gonna start soon. After another couple of classes it was finally lunchtime, and I was starving. I walked into the cafeteria, lucky us, it was burger day. I grabbed my food and looked around. As I predicted, Sunset was sitting alone at a table, perfect opportunity. I took a deep breath and walked over to her table. "Um, excuse me...May I sit with you?" I asked shyly. Sunset stared at me for a few seconds before responding with "Why?" "Well...I dunno, you seem lonely over here." I responded She looked down at her food "Yeah, sure I guess." I sat down and felt like my heart was going to beat out of my chest. I was inches away from the girl I had admired since I came to Canterlot High School. And I was about to pour on my usual charm. "So...Um...Nice weather we're having, eh?" I said...Like I said, full of charm. Sunset simply looked at me with a raised brow "Wow...You really aren't good at this, are you?" She commented. I shook my head "No, not in the least...Hell I was lucky to make the few friends I made back in my old school." Sunset's expression changed again, one I couldn't read "So I guess you don't know much about friendship, huh?" I shook my head in response "No, not really." Sunset looked down again "Yeah, me neither." "I dunno about that, you have those 5 friends you're always talking to." I commented She looked over at them sitting at another table "Well, yeah, I guess...But I made friends with them under...Extenuating circumstances..." "You mean what happened at the fall formal?" I asked curiously. Sunset's eyes widened as she looked at me "So you DO know..." She put her head in her arms "That's gonna haunt me for the rest of my life..." I reached out to her with concern "Hey...I don't even know what happened back then...And...I don't care, I think you're nice just as you are. Whatever happened, happened." Sunset looked up at me with sadness in her eyes "R-Really?" I smiled and nodded "Yeah. Whatever you did, I don't care. I wanna know you as you are now, not then." Sunset gave a small smile. As I introduced myself, we had a short conversation before the class bell rang once again and we were off to our respective classes...I think we finally broke the ice...Now the hard part begins...
