//------------------------------// // Chapter 10 - Battle of Canterlot Part 6 // Story: In the Royal Guard // by J8ck78 //------------------------------// I wont lie to you, combat is a horrific experience no pony should ever get into. The fact we were fighting a war 1000 years in the making made it all the more surreal. Most pony's wont talk about it, fewer more will even want to accept it exist. Wouldn't trade that experience for anything in the world. __________________________________________________________________ Shadow knew he wouldn't be able to lose her in the sewers. He tried every move, and nothing he could do could come close to losing her. Around her, the walls of the sewer shook with the fighting up above. dust that sat there for centuries even fell off and to the floor as foundations rattled with the stress. Shadow kept her eyes on her target, but he seemed to know the sewers as well as she did. No matter, there was one thing she had over him: The element of darkness which he so sorely lacked. Using her knowledge of the sewers, she veered off to the left in a effort to outflank him. Her plan was simple: Draw him into the false sense that he had lost her, and then kill him when he tried to get back. Easy and simple. David looked back and saw that the Pegasus chasing him was no longer behind him. He smiled at the knowledge he had lost her, but something in him struck: it was too easy. The fear that she may actually know the sewers swept over him. Knowing stopping would be his death, he made his way for the newer section of the sewers not far off. Up above, Spirit managed to duck behind a stone wall as part of it erupted outwards as magically thrown chunks of stone from the rubble around them was sent through it. He was alone after the Guard attempted to retake the city square, with disastrous results. The Lunar Guard were ready and waiting for them, trapping them in he square creating a kill zone. he was fortunate enough to be caught on the other side of the rubble when the exits were blocked and was working his way around to try and help his Guard brethren. He readied a crossbow in his hooves and moved quick to aim. He saw a Lunar Unicorn in his sights and fired. The bolt went straight for the Unicorns head, but the Unicorn saw this and caught it midair. She smiled evilly as she turned it around and sent it back at the Earth Pony. Spirit barely had time to jump out of the way, the bolt scraping past his flank armor. He fell to the floor and went to reload. He could hear the Unicorn galloping over to finish him off, and he decided to show her just how strong Earth Pony's are compared to the magically gifted Unicorns. He saw the magic aura materialize around the wall he was behind and when his gut told him, he bucked the wall hard, shattering it and the magic around it. The Unicorn was caught off guard as Spirit aimed his crossbow and fired right into her head. He didn't even have time before a trio of Lunar Pegasi swooped in at him. Remembering his academy training, he bucked one right out of the air. The other two tried to come to their fallen comrades aide, but Royal Guard Pegasi stopped that motion. Reloading his crossbow, he fired it at the Pegasi he had grounded, only managing to shoot a hole through the wing. Grounded, the Pegasi charged his opponent, but Spirit was stronger and met the Pegasi head on, head butting with enough force to crack his own golden armor. His Crossbow useless in this situation, he tried to grapple with the Pegasi, but was bitten on the leg bit him. Elbowing the Lunar Guard in the head. This didn't phaze the Pegasi one bit, who promptly head butted him in he stomach and onto the ground, shattering three of Spirits ribs in the process. Wind knocked out of him, and hurt all over, Spirit couldn't move a muscle. He looked on as the Pegasi lifted up a blade in his mouth, ready to slice his exposed through out. Before he could though, five blasts of purple hit the Pegasi in the side and the Lunar Guard went flying. Spirit looked over to his relief as three Unicorn Guards ran over to help him. As the Unicorns went to help him out, he could only fear what had become if his own Pegasi friend.
