Ch2: The Invid Invasion (v1.1)

Author’s note:
Now that I’m done with my exams (at least for the next 7 months) I thought I would give you guys a little treat, so here is another horrible chapter of this horrible story, have fun and sorry about the delay <3 hopefully the last 2 chapters won’t take as long as I intent to finish this story before I go back to my older stories that needs some patching up.
I also kind of realized that I should probably just have began the story here instead of that awful first chapter that I made as a sort of prologue, but at least I went back and changed some of it, so for those of you who have already favoured this story; you might want to reread chapter 1, I hope you like it more now than most seemed to do last time! :( Anyway, enjoy!

Chapter 2 – The Invid Invasion:
Not far from Equestria or at least not by the measures of beings with the capability of travelling faster than the speed of light, a massive beam of pure energy was now within reach of its goal after its journey through the vast darkness of space. Its appearance is that of a crudely bird with an endless tail stretching all across the stars left behind it on its travel towards the lush world of Equestria, it had travelled hundreds of light years after its original departure to the milky way galaxy and underway even the stars themselves had moved aside in its wake, respecting its incomprehensible might that would have caused entire worlds to fall apart by its mere proximity, such a horrible power it was that it had even made the rulers of the sun, the moon and the stars cower in fear, was now at their very doorsteps to presumably threaten all life on the surface of the planet where the unsuspecting ponies were living their simple, peaceful and mostly carefree lives, a peace that would soon be ruined, much to the displeasure of two certain celestial rulers that are watching the ever closing light closely.

As the mighty light entered the atmosphere of Equestria it burst into a hundred smaller beams that spread out to all sides flying all across the ponydom (kingdom) creating a loud noise as it did so, making nearly every single pony look up towards the sky, all of them shocked by what they saw unfold before their very sight.

Luna and Celestia witnessed it all from their balcony, several of the newly formed beams flew across the city high above them before they crashed into Canterlot’s streets and houses; making them collapse in the progress and soon after loud explosions emerged taking down more buildings and distant screams started to fill the air and large pillars of smoke began to rise from the city, and with that their worst fears had come to fruition; they were under siege by unknown and presumably unequestrialy (unearthly) forces.

“Was this really happening? Was Canterlot really under attack? And even more so by an unknown source from beyond the stars nonetheless?!” Luna thought as she panicky looked towards her sister in hopes for answers and hopefully also for a solution to their current predicament, but Celestia looked like she was having a panic attack, with wide eyes and sweat pearls running through her coat.

Then there was an unexpectedly teleportation sound as Twilight emerged inside the throne room at which the two alicorns quickly turned around and rushed inside when they heard Twilight calling out for them and thus breaking them out of their trance.

“Princess!” Twilight yelled as she saw them entering hastily from the balcony, not being precise at whom she was referring to of the two of them. “What’s happening?” She asked the two of them with her voice filled with that of terror and confusion. The unicorn opened her mouth to say something else but before she got the change they were all paralyzed by several of the light beams crashing through the ceiling and onto the fine white marble floor, surprisingly without damaging the floor as they seemly collided with it, almost as if they had slowed down their decent to a complete stop just a microsecond before they landed upon it.

The moment the energy beams touched the floor they immediately took shape, the seemly endless tail of light vanished as the lights grew four limbs, two that looked like they were supposed to be used as legs and the other two looked like they were arms, they took the shape of a humanoid and yet not quite. As they continued to transform they became twice as wide as they were tall and soon after their skin appeared, which was probably the most surprising of all, they were not of flesh but that of some sort of reddish metallic alloy, their entire bodies were covered in massive plating. They had claws on all four limbs, the ones on their feet looked as they were used to grab onto the surface on which they stood upon and the ones on their arms were most definitely made to either crush or slice something in a most crude manner, and in both of their wide shoulders that made up for a large portion of their body, they had a small spike like thing pointing forward. They didn’t seem to possess a head as such as they instead had one single emotionless blood red eye with a pitch black slit pupil in between their shoulders, they looked like soulless machines and yet the hatred was pouring out of them like an ocean, almost as if they were some kind of bioengineered war machines, whatever they really were they irradiated with powerful magic that somehow seemed to be depleted slowly over time.

Luna was dumbfounded by what she saw as she realized that they looked like what could probably best be described as interstellar crabs, something she would surely believe to be hilarious if they weren’t staring her right in the face with their emotionless eyes.

Then without a moment to waste one of the mighty machines leaped at Twilight with seemly unrealistic speed for such a heavy looking machine and smacked her with the backside of its claw like arm, sending Twilight flying though the great hall and land on the floor with a heart shattering thump, if either of the two alicorns had blinked they wouldn’t had been able to see what just had happened before their very eyes.

Luna and Celestia could only stare at the screen that had occurred right in front of them, stunned with a mix of dread and concern for Twilight filling their minds they were unable to act, but the invaders were relentless and didn’t give the two celestial princesses a change to moan as two of the intruders ignited their thrusters located somewhere on their backs and flew at a direct course towards Celestia with an astounding haste and before she could manage to react from her shock they rammed into her and dragged her along with them out through the castle wall with a loud crash, using the solar princess’s body as it was a battering ram.

Luna’s head was twisted almost all the way around to see the newly formed hole in the wall that the intruders had made with her big sister. She hardly had time to register what had happened before another one of the crablike machines jumped her, on reaction without thinking Luna managed to summoned a shield around her with her magic in one hundred part of a second before the alien’s claw would have made contact with her face. These machines were vicious, brutal and without mercy.

Suddenly and much to Luna’s delight several royal guards came bursting in through the large door leading into the mighty celestial throne room that had been standing guard in the nearby halls. “Princess are you al-” Was all one of the guards got to ask before they all were greeted with a sight to behold, Luna was the only present princess in the throne room and she was quivering under what looked like a magical barrier that shielded her from a creature no one on the soil of Equestria had ever seen before who was trying to force its way through the weakening protection that Luna had just barely conjured before getting attacked.

The guards didn’t even notice there was a large hole in the wall a few feet from her and they wasted no time to concern themselves with Celestia’s whereabouts as they all sprang into action. Some of the guards jumped the one trying to strike down Luna, which made it fall over just in time as Luna’s barrier gave up and disappeared like breaking glass, while the other guards attacked the remaining invading bystanders, but those machines were not as surprised as the one trying to finish off Luna as they quickly turned to face their incoming challengers.

Even though the royal guards were far superior in numbers they were still hopelessly outmatched by these mysterious alloy plated outsiders, they were simply to powerful for them to overcome, as the royal guards was thrown to the side one by one as Twilight had been not long ago, Luna regained her compose and her only thoughts were that of her concern for her Twilight’s wellbeing and thus set into a gallop with a direct course for her fallen love.

”Please be alright Twilight!“ Luna pleaded within her mind.

Meanwhile outside of Canterlot’s royal castle; Celestia found herself laying down in a small crater in the royal gardens with her two attackers looking down at her, the solar princess was a little dizzy she had just witnessed her faithful student being assaulted by unknown forces and she was unaware of her condition not to mention that she had been used as a bulldozer to tear down some of the castle’s outer wall and then they had used her body to dig a crater in her own garden, Celestia was mildly said pissed off.

The two aliens turned their back to Celestia believing that she was defeated but by the goddess were they in for a surprise as Celestia flew up from her hole behind them and planted a powerful and magically enhanced hoof in each of their backs, sending them flying across the garden and into some ornamental pillars that crash down over them as they hit them.

Celestia smiled for a brief moment at her minor victory before she felt something coming from behind, the sun goddess merely tilted her head a bit to one side as a powerful bolt of magic flew passed her and exploded nearby. She then turned provocatively slow around to see her new assailants as if they were of no concern whatsoever to her, there were seven of them standing around in the garden with no formation in their positioning, which stroke Celestia quite odd as she assumed them to be some sort of military force but she didn’t get to give it a lot of thought as they all began firing their bolts at her.

Celestia jumped back and forth like a gazelle, making all of their attacks miss her and even though these ‘things’ couldn’t show a single shed of emotions Celestia could still somehow feel it as bright as day that they were not amused at how easily and gracefully she could avoid their magical projectiles when they tried their hardest to eliminate her, which eventually resulted in them deciding to try their luck in close combat instead.

One of the machines charged at Celestia from her blind spot but that apparently didn’t make any difference to the sun princess as she without looking knew it was coming for her, so without turning she concurred with her magic a hammer of pure light and smacked the alien away like a common housefly when it was mere inches away from rearrange her face, leaving a trail of harrowing dirt from where it had collided into the ground.

Now looking at her fallen adversary she found it quite strange at how easily she could feel whatever they were doing not to mention their exact locations relative to her, it wasn’t like she could predict their moves or anything, it was more like they told her what they would do before they did it, which in itself was very strange.

Clearing her thoughts Celestia glanced back at the remaining aliens ready to face her in a fight presumably to the death, with adrenaline rushing through her body the solar princess felt something she hadn’t felt in a long time: the sheer thrill of combat, after all it had been a while since she had been in a serious fight where its outcome would either save or doom all of Equestria and as much as she would hate to admit it, it did make her excited.

“Come at me!” She ordered the six that were still standing, not counting the ones she had smashed into the ground already. “You are facing Celestia the mistress of the sun and co-ruler of Equestria, so prepare your selves!” She yelled at them as they all attacked her viciously at once.

Back inside of the castle where Twilight had been knocked unconscious and was now bleeding from the backside of her head. Luna tried to run to her but she was intercepted by one of the alien machines who had apparently cast off the guards that had jumped it only moments ago. It threw one of its arms at her, trying to hit her with the backside of its mighty claw, but Luna reacted fast and duck under it, barely enough to avoid the powerful force that instead of colliding with her it collided with the wall, breaking it asunder. In a fraction of a second Luna wondered what would have happened if such a powerful attack had hit her as intended, but she threw her concerns aside as she continued her path towards Twilight’s limp body.

The machine she had just slide underneath turned its gaze towards her, only seeing her backside as she once more was galloping to the lavender mare’s aid, it pulled its mighty claw form the now rubbles of the former majestic marble wall and made a quick pursue of the lunar princess flying though the air as it did so.

Luna turned her face to see her pursuer making its way towards her as she felt it emitted a very family feeling, it was summoning magic? Luna felt the spark before she saw it coming, the intruder lunched two oval bolts of the purest magic she had ever felt from its shoulders that now came hurling against her, but she made a quick jump to the side only being able to react fast enough to avoid it because of the pre-warning, she could feel the magic very clearly as it flew past her, blowing a huge hole in the inner wall of the castle, right behind Twilight.

Luna turned in rage to face the alien machine who had dared to almost hit Twilight with an attack that would most surely have killed her. She focused her magic in her horn and made a slice movement with her head as she unleashed her magic against the machine closing in on her, her attack cut off one of the machine’s arms and thick blue liquid flew all across the room.

It squealed in pain and crash landed into the floor and Luna almost fell over, she had somehow felt its pain and her heart felt like it shattered, she was confused of what had just happened, it felt like she had cut her own leg off and her mind became filled with questions. Sure enough that it would have hurt her that she had to harm another living being, if they even were living beings to begin with? But this was surely a machine was it not? But why did it feel pain? And even more so why did she feel its pain?! Luna was very surprised, she had thought that these things were merely machines and yet this one had felt pain, a pain it had shared with her somehow, a pain so strong that it felt as if a little of her had just died.

Luna needed to focus, she was so close to her secret love and nothing would stand in her way! She turned around and galloped over to the unicorn. But the alien’s pained scream had apparently drawn the attention of its nearby allies, as soon as Luna had finally made her way over to Twilight she felt something with murderous intent coming for her and she was forced to turned around before she got the change to check up on Twilight’s wellbeing and saw the fallen alien’s allies coming to its rescue as five of the invaders rushed towards their shortly forgotten main target: the lunar princess.

Barely having enough time the princess tried to repeat her last successful attack as she once more focused her magic in her horn, but she was out of time and hardly got to power up before she unleashed her magic as she bowed her head clobbering the first of the five attackers right over where one would assume its head was suppose to be with her magic making it crash into the fine white marble floor with a loud crash seemingly taking it out of the picture for the moment.

Then the second one jumped over its fallen comrade, apparently it was lost in a fit of rage as Luna merely step aside and it flew past her in its mad rush for the lunar princess, it soon after crashed relentlessly into one of the massive castle pillars that fell over and crumbed onto the failed attacker.

At the second attacker’s failed attempt at striking her down had just barely bought her enough time to summon up enough magic to fight off the third and forth, which were coming at her from each side of her, not having summoned enough power to fend both of the off with two strikes she instead transferred her magic to her back hoofs and quickly turned around, which seemed to surprise the two attackers as their pace almost came to a hold as they came within her vicinity. Luna not giving them a moment to think kicked each of them in their dead centre and with the magically empowered kick was more than enough to send them flying a great distance with what could only be described with a bone shattering force.

The dark princess barely got to turn around before the fifth one stroke, Luna was out of luck as its massive claw made its way towards her face, for a moment Luna considering moving aside as on reaction in an attempt to dodge the attack but then she reminded herself that such an action would expose Twilight whom she would endure another thousand years imprisoned on the moon! So for her sake the mistress of the night stood her ground prepared to take the full force of the alien’s attack, she turned her face and closed her eyes, which to her luck meant that instead of taking the full blow of the alien’s attack to her jaw that might have ended up shattering her entire skull, she instead merely ended up with a deep scratch in her cheek that would surely leave a grim scar at a later date.

And with the sharp pain everything suddenly stopped! It all had become quite, a surreal stillness filled her ears. Mere moments before screams of terror and sounds of destruction as well as the echoes of battle could be heard from all over, both close and from afar, both from within the castle walls and from outside it, but now not a single sound was made, here nor there.

Luna thought that maybe she had died? But that was ludicrous! She could still feel herself breath, she could still feel her heart beat, her blood pump, she could still feel Twilight’s presence underneath her and she could also feel something she never felt before: her cheek was leaking? But something even stranger was perhaps the confusion she felt, not that she wasn’t confused herself but she felt a massive power of confusion from her fellow ponies but also from the alien invaders? And they seemed to be ones that was the most confused of them all, like a trillion thoughts echoed though them all at once, ponies and aliens alike.

Luna slowly opened her eyes in an attempt to discover what was going on and what she found scared the living daylight out of her, right there in front of her mere inches away were the insect like eye of the enemy, a big crimson red globe with a pitch black line straight down the middle of it, looking like the eye of a serpent or perhaps even that of a dragon, its gaze were transfixed somewhere between Luna’s face and the marble floor.

She lifted one of her hind legs as she was about to take a step backwards but then she recalled Twilight Sparkle lying right beneath her and at that thought she firmly put her leg back down, refusing to expose her sisters prized student to this evil entity, she would rather stare it down than move away from Twilight, even if it meant taking on its fully extended wrath. But it made no moves towards the two of them as it just kept its gaze. Luna wasn’t sure what was going on, why had this killing machine or whatever it truly was and the others for that matter stopped so unexpectedly?

Her thoughts were cut short as she heard a drip and she looked down, her cheek was leaking blood and when she looked to the floor she noticed that she couldn’t see her blood in the mix of the blue liquid the aliens had spilled, there was only blue, she took a hoof and dried her cheek and then looked at it. She was terrified of what she saw, her blood was blue?! That was why she couldn’t see her own blood in the mix of the enemies’ liquid, it was the exact same colour and by the looks of it also the exact same consistency. Luna could hardly believe that these things weren’t machines they were living beings just like her and everypony else! And even worse she bleed the same colour as the enemy! What could this possible mean? But before she could act deeply lost in her own thoughts all of the aliens made a quick retreat from the castle, no from all across Equestria they fled as they turned back into the beams of light they had come as and flew back into the sky, back into the unknown from which they had come. She also noticed that they left no one behind, those that were knocked unconscious were grabbed by others and even the limb that Luna had separated was taken with them as they vanished within seconds.

Leaving the night alicorn the only one standing in the throne room standing, well beside some of the royal guard that were stumbling about and then hardly a moment later Celestia landed inside the large room folding her wings to her sides as she trotted over to Luna.

“What just happened?” Luna’s sister asked her big sister still rather confused.

“I have no idea.” Celestia simply replied giving Luna a concerned look. “Is she alright?” She asked referring to Twilight’s current health condition.

Luna quickly looked down at Twilight whom seemed to have returned from her unconscious state groaning in pain.

“Are you okay Twilight?” Luna asked the lavender unicorn a little hesitantly, not sure what she was really expecting of an answer.

There were a short pause before Twilight replied with a weaken voice. “Yeah...” She tried to move but found herself to weak to do so. “I’m okay...” She answered a little reluctantly.

“Hopefully it’s nothing more than a mild concussion.” Celestia added with a soft smile gracing her feature.

“So where did they all leave off too?” One of the royal guards asked who had made his way over to them while Luna and Celestia were checking up on Twilight.

“I know where they went.” Luna told them, cutting in where Celestia was just about to tell them that she had no idea. “They are on the moon now,” She said as she gave the rising moon a sore look that was just barely peeking over the horizon. “and they’re plotting something.” She added, still feeling the tension of the aliens and even more so now that they had taken up resident on her celestial body.

Celestia gave her a concerned look before she told her little sister to take care of Twilight as she needed to attend the shape of their Ponydom, she also told her that they had to figure out what to do with Luna’s current ‘visitors’ on the moon later. Luna just nodded as a reply and then Celestia left with the guard to oversee the current state of Equestria.

“Luna?” Twilight asked weakly as they were alone.

Luna who hadn’t taken her gaze away from Twilight suddenly looked away from her, embarrassed that she had been unable to keep her heart’s desire out of harms reach. “I’m sorry Twilight... It’s all my fault... I should have told you to stay, it is because of me that you were hurt.” She told Twilight with an unsure voice still looking away.

“Silly Luna,” Celestia’s prized student replied. “I would have come anyway even if you told me not to.” Twilight smiled weakly at her.

Luna’s lips began to quiver. “Stupid Twilight...” Luna replied in a sob as she started to cry softly, still not looking at the unicorn.

Twilight gave her a loving smile and a weak chuckle before she pulled her secret marefriend in with a hoof, nuzzling the opposite cheek of the one that the machine had scratched on Luna.

Celestia turned around for a moment before leaving the room looking at the two mares and gave them a warm smile, it was good to see that Luna had finally found herself a friend she could connect with and with that she left their throne room to attend to their subjects.
