//------------------------------// // Chapter 4 - End of the day // Story: In the Royal Guard // by J8ck78 //------------------------------// The two were back at their posts, the events of earlier still burned in their heads and still burning in their muscles. By nightfall, the two had their situation only growing worse as extreme boredom and fatigue of staying awake and vigilant all day set in. Finally, just as Charger was starting to hallucinate, salvation came in the form of two Earth ponies who said that they were taking over. However their relief was dashed when they were told to report to Sergeant David. "That guy again?" complained Charger "Let's just get this over with." said Crescent They walked down he stairway and through the halls until they cam upon the Sergeants desk once again. "Heard you two broke the Guards record! Two hours is quite a feat against little Filly." he said as they walk up "You know her?" asked Charger as the two moved around to the front of his desk. "Yeah hold on." He brought out a book and held a pen in his mouth. "Aside (th)e inthident with fiwlly, anthythwing tho report?" "Uh, no Sergeant." said Charger "No one came in or out." said Crescent "Good!" he said writing it down As he finished he spit the pen out with the expert precision of a unicorns magic to land it straight on the desk. "Now then, what do you want to know about dear little Filly?" "What's her name?" asked Charger "No one knows." said David "Who's her parents?" asked Crescent "No one knows." said David "What do you mean no ones knows!?" both asked "Captain Shadow and I found her a few months back in the sewers of Canterlot." said David "We patrol down there?" asked Charger "Nope." "Then why in the wide world of Equestria were you two down there? There something going on between you can the captain?" asked Crescent in a mocking tone Both the Guards started laughing at this until a dark glare from the Sergeant stopped them both. "It was the Summer Sun Celebration." said David darkly, "And Captain Shadow is a member of the Luna Corps...... formerly known as the-" "New Lunar Republic!" said a astonished Charger "Yeah. We weren't on patrol together, we were trying to kill each other!" The two guards were silent at this. David looked up to the sky glaring at the moon before his face shifted to more of a satisfied smile. "No one knew why the Princess had all the Guard on double duty that day. The rumor was she was concerned about the Old Pony's tale "the Mare in the Moon" but we didn't think twice on it. As far as we were concerned it was for ceremonial issues or something." He began walking off and charger and Crescent followed him. "When the time came for the Princess to raise the sun, we were all ready to watch the spectacle. Only, the sun didn't come up, and the moon stayed in the sky. and that is where everything went south." The two Guards looked at him as his voice deepened and his eyes darkened. "I was on watch that night with the Guard you know as Lieutenant Spirit. I had just gotten my Sergeant rank when it all happened." David flashed back as he told the story to the two new guards.
