The Trouble With Lemon

by Akio-nya

Chapter 1

"Lemon Square!" Twilight called.

My name's Lemon Square. I'm a yellow filly with brown eyes and I have a white mane and tail. I'm kinda lonely but I don't tell anyone that.

"How many times have I told you to organize my books by alphabet and not by size?" Twilight asked me, obviously annoyed with the fact that I had messed up her organizing system.

"Sorry Ms.Twilight..I just started using magic and it acts like it has a mind of its own." I apologized.

"Don't call me Ms. Twilight. Twilight is just fine." She said turning to the shelves. "Did you sweep the stairs at least?" Twilight asked me.

My ears fell. Did I or not? It was too early for me or any filly for that matter. "Yes?" I said with a bit of curiosity in my voice.

"Spike, do you mind checking the stairs?" Twilight asked the tiny dragon with a tired look \ on his face. I glared at him as he took a scaly finger and ran it across the stair.

"Looks like it.." The purple dragon said. "I was hoping a little filly would be in trouble." He muttered.

"Okay.." Twilight said, giving the dragon a scolding look.

"Is there anything else I can do for you Twilight?" I asked wanting to fix my mistake from earlier.

'No. Just get ready for school." Twilight said, making a motion to the stairs with her hoof.

I walked up the stairs with a plain expression on my face. I went to my hiding spot where I keep my log. Its kinda like a diary but I gave it a much cooler name. Anyway, I was relieved to find that it was still in it's place. I grabbed my saddlebags and used the levitation spell Twilight taught me to put it on my back.

I left without a word which left Twilight shocked but she continued to reorganize her shelves. I sighed. The school house is right around the corner from the Treebrary so it doesn't take me long to arrive. Three fillies appeared in front of me and I slowed to a trot. They seemed to be having a conversation.

"I can't wait for Twilight Time after school," The white one said. Twilight Time? Why didn't Twilight tell me about this? Am I that bad of a student that Twilight had to go and get three new ones? "Yea." The orange one said as she smiled. "Remember that nopony else is supposed to know about this." The yellow one said.

"Everypony, Lets welcome our newest student Lemon Square!" The teacher said with a warm smile. "Alright, you can take the desk in the back. Let's get to work on the project. The three fillies from earlier pushed their desks together and began quiet chatter. "She's a blank flank," Began to spread around the room in whispers. My ears fell.

As soon as Recess happens, I'm sneaking out. "I bet she doesn't have a mom." The whispers continued. "She looks like she doesn't have one, that's for sure." The whispers said. I looked at my desk with a sad expression. How was the teacher not hearing this? I'm definitely leaving now.

I was hatching my plan of escape as the bell for recess rang. I was one of the last people out of the school house. I would run into the bushes and wait. Then I'll run to Sugar Cube Corner. Hopefully, Mrs. Cake will give me something sweet today. It was the perfect time to initiate Escape Plan A. I dove into the bushes as quietly as I could. I waited until the coast was clear. I rushed out of the bushes and I picked up my speed until I bumped into a certain yellow pony.

"O-oh my! A-are you alright? I hope I didn't hurt you." The voice asked as I rubbed my head. "Y-yea. I'm good." I said. "Oh, that's good. M-maybe to make up for being in your way, I-I can treat you to something sweet at Sugar Cube Corner?" This was going according to plan. This pony was nothing but an obstacle in Escape Plan A. I nodded and the two of us walked to Sugar Cube Corner. We entered the bake shop and a bell rang to announce our arrival.

"How can I help you?" A cheery voice said as she came into view.

"Lemon Square?! I thought you were at school." Mrs. Cake said, as her sight fell on me. Twilight had brought me hear to discuss why I was on her doorstep. The introduction between me and Mrs. Cake was an awkward one. I just waved. "U-um..I was running an errand for the teacher. " I lied. "Me and Lemon bumped into each other and I'm treating her to something sweet." The yellow one said. "Alright Fluttershy, what'll it be?" Mrs. Cake said. "If Ms. Cherrilee finds out your here and not at school, you'll be in trouble." Mrs. Cake pointed out. "I know." I said, looking at the floor. Fluttershy- that's the yellow pony's name- bought me a cupcake. I examined it before I dug in.

I think for now, I'll go into the Everfree Forest for the rest of the day. I could practice the teleportation spell Twilight caught me reading to bring my saddlebags to me. She took the book and said it was too advanced for a level 1 magic user. I waved goodbye to Fluttershy and took off to the Everfree Forest. I ran as deep as I felt comfortable with. Looking around, I checked to make sure no one had followed me into the forest. I sat down and sighed. How could anypony be so mean?

Finally deciding to go ahead and use the teleportation spell, I closed my eyes and said the spell in my head. I was hoping the spell would bring me my saddlebags. I can't believe I left them there..I hadn't factored them into my escape plan. Peach colored aura surrounded my horn. I concentrated and felt like the spell was working. Wait 'till Twilight sees this! She'll be so proud that she'll get rid of the three fillies she's excepted as her new students. My head was beginning to spin and I could feel like I was slipping into another universe or something. My magic cut out and I slumped on the ground with the spell incomplete. I couldn't feel anything let alone hear so if anypony called my name, I wouldn't be able to respond.
