//------------------------------// // Prologue // Story: Mirrors // by Darksoma //------------------------------// "Come on, Twilight!" Rainbow Dash said, excitement filling her voice. "Alright, I'm coming. It's rather curious that Princess Celestia called us back to the Crystal Empire." The question bounced around in Twilight's head. What could the princess want? Last time she was here, she went to that alternate world. And it was even weirder when she specifically said to bring Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie. What could she want? "Hey. Where did Pinkie go?" Twilight said. "I thought you had your eye on her." "Maybe she's already in the castle?" Twilight said, unsure if she was right. "Maybe..." We started walking toward the Crystal Castle. "Where is everypony? You'd think this place would be more active." Twilight walked up to the gates cautiously. After looking around a second time, she lifted her hoof up to knock on the gate. Before she could knock a third time, something moved out of the corner of her eye. "What was that?" Twilight turned to see Rainbow Dash looking in the same direction. "What is it, Rainbow?" Twilight asked. "Wasn't that...?" She cut her sentence short before she could say anything. "Never mind. It's nothing." "Are you sure?" Twilight asked. Rainbow just nodded in response. "OK then. If you’re sure." Twilight turned to knock on the door once more, only to find it opened. She pushed the door open wider, revealing the main hall. "Hello...? Is anypony here?" Twilight looked around the dimly lit room. It was way too quiet for there to be Anypony in there. "Come on." Twilight was the first to enter the quiet hall. She approached the staircase with caution. As Rainbow Dash entered, the door shut behind her with a loud thump. "Hey!" Rainbow Dash gasped. She quickly flew for the door. She tried to open the door, but to no avail. "Come on!" She said in desperation. She tried again, but it was no use. The door wouldn't budge. "I guess the only way is forward." Twilight said, looking back at the staircase. She started up the stairs, putting one hoof in front of the other. Once she reached the top, Rainbow had given up on the door. Suddenly, a purple light illuminated the dark hallways. "Who's there...?!" Twilight yelled as she turned down the dark hall. "Hello!?" After a few seconds, the light started to get dimmer. "Hey, wait!" Twilight immediately gave chase to the strange light. "Twilight...?" Rainbow dash said, turning to see her galloping toward the dimming light. "Hey, Wait!" Rainbow said, trying desperately to catch up with her friend. "Hey, wait up!" Twilight said. There was no sign that they were slowing down. Twilight finally got Impatient. She started to ready a teleportation spell, when suddenly something bumped into her, breaking her concentration. At the same moment, Rainbow Dash caught up with her and was teleported along with Twilight and the thing that bumped into her. “Ow… That hurt.” the mysterious figure said. “Wait… Is that you Pinkie Pie?” With the blur fading, Twilight looked around to see if it was Pinkie who was talking. “Well duh.” Pinkie said, standing up. “Why did you run into me?” Twilight said, rubbing her head. Pinkie stood up straight. “I didn’t do it on purpose. You just happened to be there.” “What were you doing?” Rainbow finally said. “Oh, I was chasing a strange light.” This immediately surprised Twilight. “Was this light purple?” Twilight asked. “Ya, it was. How did you know?” “Well. I was chasing the exact same thing”. This didn’t make any sense. How could pinkie have been chasing the same light? If she saw it, there must be more than one. “So, where are we?” Pinkie asked. “Well. It looks like we’re in a storeroom of some kind.” Twilight replied. “Twilight… I think I know where we are exactly.” Rainbow Dash suddenly said. “Really… Where?” Twilight approached Dash. Twilight went around her to see what she was looking at. “The mirror… We’re in the mirror room.” Twilight then noticed what Rainbow Dash was shocked about. The mirror had three large cracks in it. They each split the mirror into three separate pieces. “What do you think it means?” Rainbow said, looking to her friend. “I have no clue.” “Do you think this is why there is no one around?” Twilight pondered this, and decides that it was possible, given there was no reason to think otherwise. “Maybe…” Twilight said. “The only thing I can’t explain at this point is how a crack got on the mirror.” “Maybe somepony threw something at it?” Rainbow said. “It does seem that way. By the look of the impact, something was indeed thrown at it. But what, and who would do this?” Twilight tried to think of what to do next. “Still looks sparkly.“ Pinkie said, walking up to the mirror. “Wait, Pinkie. We don’t know what will happen.” Regardless of Twilights warning, Pinkie walked up to the mirror and lifted a hoof to touch it. “Wait, Pinkie!” Twilight yelled. Twilight and Rainbow Dash ran up to Pinkie before she could touch it, but instead of getting Pinkie away, they ended up pushing her and themselves toward the mirror. When they opened there eyes, each of them had one hoof on each of the broken pieces of the mirror. “Oh no…” They all exclaimed, simultaneously. Suddenly, the room began to spin. Before they knew it, the room had turned into a spirally twist of dark blue and brown. The next thing they knew, they were being pulled apart from one another. “Hold on!” Twilight yelled over the loud wind circling them. “Obviously!” Came a reply from Pinkie. The wind was too strong and Twilight knew it. They had no choice but to let go. “I’m sorry, girls!” Twilight shouted. “What…?!” Dash yelled in reply. Twilight simply lowered her head. “We have to let go.” Twilight yelled, her head held low. “Are you crazy?” Pinkie replied. The wind was getting stronger, making it increasingly difficult for the three ponies to hold on. “It will hurt less if we just accept it. Now… Let go…” Twilight shouted, and began counting down from 3. “I’ll find you if we survive… I promise.” Dash screamed over the deafening sound of the wind tugging at their every extremity. “2.” Twilight continued. The wind began to pull harder. “1.” And at the sound of the number they all let go. The wind carried them off like a leaf in the wind. Then suddenly everything went dark... and silence ensued.
