//------------------------------// // FIllies will be Fillies // Story: A Filly's Tale // by Deathsia //------------------------------//  FILLIES WILL BE FILLIES It had already been a few months since Rainbow Dash had offered to let Scootaloo stay with her, and the Pegasus was beginning to realize just what she had gotten herself into. “No, no! Don't touch that! Wait! Stop!” Rainbow Dash shouted at the young Pegasus, who was running all over her cloud home. SHHHAAAAATTER Dash could feel her temper rising as she looked at her prized 1st place glass trophy from the best young flier’s competition laying in pieces on the floor, however she took several deep breaths and let each one out very slowly to stop herself from yelling in anger. “Sorry Rainbow Dash.” Scootaloo said in a guilty tone with a frown. “It's... Well it's not okay! That was my first place trophy from the best young flier's competition! Go to your room young filly!” Rainbow Dash exclaimed in stern tone. Scootaloo turned around and slowly walked to the room that Rainbow Dash had made for her shortly after they got here. It took a lot of time and effort, but luckily cloud homes were easily modified and could be altered fairly easily. “What have I got myself into?” Rainbow Dash asked herself in a dreading tone as she slammed a hoof on her forehead and ran it down her face. She then began to carefully scoop up the pieces of the trophy into a bag. “I'm going to head over to Twilight's to get this trophy fixed. You going to be okay on your own here for a few hours?” Rainbow Dash asked walking past Scootaloo's room. “I spent two years living on my own. I think I can handle a few hours.” Scootaloo replied with a smile. “Alright. I'll be back.” Rainbow Dash replied and quickly took off from her home and towards Twilight's house. “So what excuse am I going to use this time?” The Cyan colored Pegasus asked herself as she landed just short of Twilight's home. She had promised to keep the fact that Scootaloo was staying with her a secret, if at least for the first few months. However, in the first few weeks, she had to make several stops at Twilight's house to have her fix things that Scootaloo had managed to break and she knew Twilight would begin to suspect something soon. It was well past eight o'clock and she suspected that Twilight was most likely getting ready for bed. However, she knocked on her door just the same. A few moments later, the door was answered by Spike, who looked at Rainbow Dash with a smile. “Oh, hi Dash. What brings you here this late at night?” Spiked asked. Rainbow Dash took the bag out from her saddlebags and showed it to him. “Hey Twilight! Rainbow Dash needs another fixer upper!” Spike called out from behind him, turned around and let Rainbow Dash in. “Again? This is the third time this month. What did you do this time?” Twilight asked curiously as she walked into the living room from her kitchen. “Well..eh-heh... You see...” Rainbow Dash replied rubbing the back of her head with a hoof nervously. “Holy horsefeathers! Is this your first place trophy from the young flier's competition?” Twilight asked astonished. “Yeah, it kinda is...” Rainbow Dash replied with a weak smile. “Have you been having trouble with other Pegasus Rainbow? Because if you are, you know that I can write to Princess Celestia about this and have her put a stop to it.” Twilight said as she began to make her horn glow and magically put the shattered pieces of the trophy back together. “No, no. It's nothing like that.” Dash replied, unable to come up with anything as of yet. “Then what is it?” Twilight asked as she put some final touches on the trophy. “Well...” Dash said trailing off as she still couldn't come up with anything. “Out with it already. I need to get some sleep sometime tonight you know.” Spike said annoyed. “Well... I just ... kinda of bumped into it. That's all.” Dash said hoping they would buy it, however Twilight didn't as she eyed the cyan Pegasus suspiciously. “Rainbow Dash...” Twilight said in a stern, yet concerned tone. “Okay, I'll tell you the truth. ... But you gotta keep it a secret.” Rainbow Dash said biting her lower lip.                 ======================== “I'm soo booored!” Scootaloo said aloud in an annoyed tone looking around her room. The young filly gave yet another glance around her room when she saw a few Pegasus flying by out of her window. “Hey! Could you two come over here?” Scootaloo called out. The two Pegasus gave a glance over towards Scootaloo who was on the edge of her window and flew over to her. “Haven't seen you around here before.” The brown Pegasus said with grin. “Yeah. And what are you doing in Rainbow Crash's house?” The lighter brown Pegasus said flying next to him chimed in. “Oh, well... I'm just visiting. Why do you call her Rainbow Crash?” Scootaloo replied with a curious smile. Both Pegasus snickered at this. “I'll tell you later. You wanna hang out with us?” The light brown Pegasus asked with a grin. “But... I can't fly yet.” Scootaloo replied flapping her wings to show them how small they were. “No problem kid. We'll carry ya.” The other replied with a grin. “We will?” The other asked in a confused tone, however, after a sharp nudge to the side, changed his attitude completely. “I mean, of course we will!” He said after a moment of being nudged by the darker brown Pegasus. “So what are your names?” Scootaloo asked curiously as she cautiously climbed onto the lighter brown Pegasus's back. “Name's Hoops.” Hoops replied as she secured herself on his back. “You can call me Billy.” The darker browned Pegasus replied. “So where are we going?” Scootaloo asked after a few minutes. She was enjoying being in the air feeling the wind blowing a crossed her face. It was almost as good as flying herself... Almost. “Uhh... Well... Umm....” Hoops replied, sounding as if he didn't know himself. “We are going to teach you how to fly.” Billy said after a few moments. “We are?” Hoops asked in a confused tone, however, after another nudge to the side, he changed his tune completely. “Uhh, yeah! What he said!” Hoops said after a few moments, which made the young filly's eyes light up with excitement. “Really?! That's awesome! So how do we start?” Scootaloo asked curiously. “Uhh... Well... You know how a momma bird teaches her young to fly right?” Hoops replied. “Yes....” Scootaloo replied not liking this idea already. “Well, here's your first flying lesson then kid!” Hoops exclaimed and he then bucked the young Pegasus off his back, sending her into a free fall. Scootaloo let out an ear piercing scream as she fellm, gaining speed at very fast rate, while Hoops and Kevin laughed their flanks off. “So you gonna go catch her or what?” Hoops asked after a few moments. “I thought you were going to go catch her?!” Kevin exclaimed in a panicked tone. “I can't fly that fast!” Hoops replied in an annoyed tone. “Neither can I!” Kevin replied defensively. Meanwhile, Scootaloo was still free falling to her death, now going at a very fast speed, still screaming. “Thanks for understanding Twilight. It means a lot to Scootaloo that I'm taking care of her.” Rainbow Dash said as she left the front door of her house. “No problem at all Rainbow. Just tell me a little sooner next time would ya?” Twilight replied with a smile then turned her eyes up to the sky no sooner she heard a faint screaming as did Dash. “Is that... Scootaloo?!” Spike exclaimed in a panicked tone looking up at the sky as well. In an instant, Rainbow Dash bolted off towards the falling Pegasus, completely forgetting she was carrying her first place trophy. It let out a loud shatter as it hit the ground and spread out across the ground. “Come on wings, faster!” Rainbow Dash exclaimed as she flapped them as fast as she possibly could, growing closer to Scootaloo by the second. However, at the speed she was going, she wouldn't make it in time and she knew it. But despite the fact she knew she was at her limit, something inside her was able to help her push past it. The only time she had been going this fast before was when she was using gravity to help her pick up speed to catch Rarity. However, this time she was using her own sheer brute wing speed to propel her as fast as she was going. But it still wasn't fast enough... “She going to hit the ground if I don't catch her!” Rainbow Dash exclaimed aloud as panic filled her and something else, although she had no idea what it was, but the more this mysterious feeling filled her, the faster she began to go until...... BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! In a burst of speed, Rainbow Dash had just created another sonic rainboom which exploded behind her, giving her a huge burst of speed and she caught Scootaloo just in the nick of time, less than twenty feet from the ground. Scootaloo continued screaming for a moment until she opened her eyes to see Rainbow Dash's face, determined as ever, and smile at her. Moments later, she landed on the ground and set the shaking filly on solid ground. “What the hay were you thinking?! You know you can't fly yet! You scared me half to death!” Rainbow Dash exclaimed practically at the top of her lungs as Twilight and Spike rushed over to her and Scootaloo. “It-it wasn't my-my fault. Hoops bucked me off his back in the middle of the air!” Scootaloo exclaimed, still shaking, but at least able to speak. Rainbow Dash's gaze suddenly jolted upward. “I'll be right back. Can you keep an eye on her while I have a little chat with Hoops and Kevin Twilight?” Rainbow Dash asked, not looking away from her gaze. “Of course.” Twilight replied with a comforting smile. In the next moment Dash was off having erupted off the ground in a vertical climb until she was level height of the two Pegasus. “Give me one good reason why I shouldn't tear your wings off and sell them to a pillow factory!” Rainbow Dash exclaimed, looking extremely pissed off. So pissed off that Hoops and Kevin looked as if they were going to soil themselves as they shook in fear of Dash so badly. “It was Hoops's idea!” Kevin exclaimed in a fearful tone. “Nu-uh! It was yours!” Hoops retorted in the same panicked tone. “ENOUGH!” Rainbow Dash's voice erupted over the pair's arguing, causing them to instantly silence themselves. While the pegasus couldn't erupt flames, due to the fact she wasn't an Alicorn or unicorn, she sure as hell came close as her entire face and body was turning a light shade of red. “If I ever see you two again I’ll make sure your wings are the least of your worries! GOT THAT?!” Rainbow Dash exclaimed at the top of her lungs. Kevin and Hoops didn't respond verbally, rather they bolted away from her as fast as their wings could carry them. With those two finally out of sight Rainbow Dash's color began to return to its normal cyan blue color, and with several deep breaths, she descended to the ground below and landed next to Twilight and Spike. “Now, I want a explanation and I want an honest one, young filly. Why did you leave the house this late at night? You know it's not allowed.” Rainbow Dash said in a stern tone with a look to match it. “I... just wanted to learn how to fly.” Scootaloo replied, unable to give a decent reason. “You're grounded, young filly.” Rainbow Dash replied after a few moments, earning a horrified look from the small orange Pegasus. “What?! How am I going to go crusading with Sweetie Belle and Applebloom?! How am I going to find my special talent in my room?!” Scootaloo exclaimed in an angry tone. “You'll just have to wait till after your punishment is over with to continue crusading.” Rainbow Dash replied standing firm with her decision to ground the young filly. “And afterword... I’m going to enroll you in the Cloudsdale Flight School.” Rainbow Dash followed up a few moments later causing Scootaloo's horrified expression to turn into one of excitement and happiness. “Thank you, thank you, thank you!” Scootaloo exclaimed happily as she hugged Rainbow Dash's front legs tightly. “No problem kid. But you gotta take your punishment first.” Rainbow Dash replied with a smile, causing the young filly's happy expression faded just a little. “Okay! I'll be on my best behavior! But how long is it going to be?” Scootaloo asked curiously. “What do you think Twilight? Three days sound good?” Rainbow Dash asked with a grin, looking at Twilight with a wink. “But that's how long it would take to enroll a young Pegasus in.....” Twilight began to say but trailed off, catching onto the cyan pegasus's winking gesture. “Yes. I think that would be just fine.” Twilight replied with a wide smile.                                     ================================ “I'm afraid we can't enroll her without a parent or guardian's signature Miss Dash.” The flight school principal replied with a frown. “Oh come on! You know me Francis! We go way back! And you still owe me that favor from when I saved your flank from that Dragon that attacked you when you were working for the weather team while we were putting clouds over Everfree forest!” Rainbow Dash exclaimed not backing down. “Look...I’m sorry. But rules are rules rainbow. Even if I let you cash in on that favor I would lose my teaching license if anypony found out.” Francis replied with a frown. “Okay, then how about I sign it then? No pony would know the difference right?” Rainbow Dash replied. “You're not Scootaloo's mother, nor her guardian. So it still wouldn't be legal.” Francis replied. Rainbow Dash wasn't about to give up that easily though. She promised Scootaloo she would get her into this flight school, and with her element of loyalty as her witness, she would. No matter what the cost. “I'm going to get her into this school Francis... Even if I have to go over your head to do it.” Rainbow Dash said, her eyes narrowing to slits. “Oh come now Rainbow. You wouldn't honestly consider taking this to the board of directors just to get a single filly into flight school would you?” Francis replied with an uneasy smile. He knew Dash was one to do rash things and this wasn't out of the question, but he called her on bluff anyways. “Try me.” Rainbow Dash said in the most confident voice she could muster. A few tense moments passed before Francis gave a deep sigh and caved in. “Fine... But if anypony finds out I let her in without a parent or guardian's signature, you're going to owe me big time." “No worries! If anypony asks, you just tell them I fooled you into it. That way I take the brunt of the stick and you get a slap on the hoof.” Rainbow Dash replied with a smile as she took the pen out of its holding cup with her mouth and signed the paper.                                =============================== Scootaloo was waiting anxiously at Twilight's house for her to return. Ever since that day three days ago, she was rather hesitant to leave Scootaloo home alone and often left her in the care of Twilight or Spike while she was out doing her weather jobs. “So, what's it like having Rainbow Dash take care of you Scootaloo?” Twilight asked with a smile. “Well, she's pretty cool. I mean, she was cool to begin with, but now she's even cooler than ever for taking me into her home and all. But she can be a little annoying. She has so many rules, it makes it hard to have any fun a lot of the time. But I still like living with her more than ever.” Scootaloo replied with a smile. “Yeah. That is pretty cool of her. But she seems to care about you a lot. You should have seen how she acted when she was up there talking to Hoops and Kevin. I've never seen her so furious before. And she's enrolling you in flight school too.” Twilight replied with a smile. “Yeah, she's the coolest mom ever!” Scootaloo exclaimed with a smile. “Did you just call Rainbow Dash your mom?” Twilight asked with a raised eyebrow. “Umm ... sorry that kind of slipped out. I don't know why it did though. But if she was my mom, she would be the coolest mom ever!” Scootaloo replied with a smile. Just then there was a knock on the door, which Spike answered, revealing it to be Rainbow Dash at the door. “So?” Scootaloo asked with an eager smile on her face. “You start flight school first thing monday afternoon kid.” Rainbow dash said with a proud smile and was promptly tackled to the ground by Scootaloo giving her a huge hug. “Oh thank you, thank you, thank you! This means so much to me!” Scootaloo exclaimed with a excited smile. “It's no problem at all kid. Just behave yourself and don't get into trouble. I went through a lot of trouble getting you in there and we don't need you getting kicked out. Got it?” Rainbow Dash replied with stern, yet still soft, expression. “I'll be on my best behavior ever! I promise!” Scootaloo exclaimed as she hugged the cyan pegasus even more tightly than ever. “You best be.” Rainbow Dash replied with a smile as she gently pushed Scootaloo off her and stood on all four hooves again. “Rainbow, could I have a word with you in the kitchen?” Twilight asked with a smile. “Sure Twilight.” Rainbow Dash replied and followed Twilight to the kitchen leaving Scootaloo in the front room with Spike. “Scootaloo's become quite attached to you.” Twilight said simply as she magically closed the door behind them. “Yeah, she's quite the hoofful though.” Rainbow Dash replied with a smile. “I can imagine.” Twilight replied with a soft giggle. “So what did you want to talk with me about?” Rainbow Dash asked curiously. “Well, I was wondering. How do you feel about her? I mean you've been taking care of her for well over five months now and I would suspect you to have generated some sort of feelings for her.” Twilight replied with a smile. “How do I feel about her? What kind of question is that? I care about her if that is what you mean. I mean who wouldn't?” Rainbow Dash replied not quite sure what she meant by that question. “What I mean is. What is she to you? Spike is like a younger brother to me, if that is a good example to what I’m asking.” Twilight asked with a nervous smile on her face. “Oh that's easy. She's... she's...” Rainbow Dash replied however she trailed off. Just what was Scootaloo to her? She took care of her, fixed her meals every night and even a few times had read a bedtime story to her. Of course Rarity and Applejack probably did the same thing, but still this was different. It didn't feel like a relationship a sister would have with her younger sister. She couldn't quite figure it out. “I honestly don't know...” Rainbow Dash replied, finally taking a quick glance back at the door, then back to Twilight. “I mean, I want to say she's like a sister to me, but that doesn't seem to fit the bill.” Rainbow Dash replied before letting out out a sigh. “Well, I think Scootaloo thinks of you as a mother.” Twilight replied unsure of how the cyan pegasus would take this new information. “Really?” Rainbow Dash replied with a shocked expression. “Yeah. She called you mom when I was asking her what it was like living with you. Now while I could write that off as a slip of the tongue, I honestly think she does think of you as a mother.” Twilight replied with a smile. “Wow... Scootaloo thinks of me as her mom? That's the coolest ever!” Rainbow Dash exclaimed with a proud smile, which suddenly turned to one of pure shockafter a few seconds. “She thinks of me as her mother?! Why have I got myself into?” Rainbow Dash asked aloud slamming a hoof on her forehead. “I mean I should be happy, but... I’m not ready to be a mom yet! I still gotta get into the Wonderbolts! How am I going to be a mom to her if I am trying to become one of them?!” Rainbow Dash exclaimed now pacing back and forth with a nervous expression on her face. “Maybe... it would be best if we found out who Scootaloo's real parents are. I'm sure if I wrote a letter to Princess Celestia, she could find Scootaloo's real parents in no time flat. “Yeah, that's a great idea! Go ahead and do that.” Rainbow dash replied with a smile. “But...” Twilight said trailing off with a frown. “But what? If we find her real parents, she will be happy right?” Rainbow Dash replied not sure why the purple unicorn was so hesitant to write the letter. “How would Scootaloo feel about that? She's grown quite attached to you. And I’m not sure how she would take it if she suddenly had to leave you.” Twilight replied with a concerned expression and tone to match it. “Oh... I didn't think of that.” Rainbow Dash replied with a frown lowering her head slightly. “Do you still think it's a good idea?” Twilight asked with a concerned tone. “Well, maybe you could word so that she doesn't suspect a thing. You could just say it's a research on something with pegasus or something. But maybe it would be a good idea to wait a little longer.” Rainbow Dash said after a few moments. “You sure Rainbow? I mean she's only a letter away.” Twilight replied her concern for the cyan pegasus obvious still. “Yeah, if she does have to go back to her real parents, I think it would be a good idea to spend a few more months with her. Just to warm her up to the idea, you know?” Rainbow Dash replied not sounding very confident, but smiling none-the-less. “Alright. I'll wait on sending the letter. You just let me know when you're ready.” Twilight replied with a smile. “I'll be sure to do that Twilight.” Rainbow dash replied as she opened the door. “Ready to head home kid?” Rainbow Dash asked with a smile. “Of course!” Scootaloo replied, letting go of Spike, having pinned him down in their little wrestling match. Rainbow Dash then knelt down so Scootaloo could climb on her back. She then took off from the ground towards their cloud home. “Is something wrong?” Scootaloo asked Rainbow Dash as they flew, noticing her worried expression. “Nope. Nothing at all kid.” Rainbow Dash replied.
