//------------------------------// // Dashy's new roomate // Story: A Filly's Tale // by Deathsia //------------------------------// A FILLY'S TALE Dashy's new roomate It was early morning in Ponyville and all the little fillies of Ponyville were waking up to get ready for the first day of class at the start of the new school year. By the time the school bell rang every pony was in the classroom waiting for miss Cheerilee to begin her morning class. That is...except for a single filly who came rushing in five minuets after the bell rang. “Sorry i'm late Miss Cheerilee.” The orange Pegasus said in a brisk voice as she sat down in her seat. “That's okay Scootaloo. At least you made it here, and that says you are willing to learn.” Miss Cheerilee replied with a smile and began to write something on the black board. Three hours later the bell rang which signaled it was recess for the fillies whom at the sound of the bell nearly trampled each other to get to the playground. “First day of school this year and that blank flank is still running late just about every other day.” Diamond Tiara said in her usual snooty tone to Silver spoon as Scootaloo walked past them. “I know, doesn't her mom ever wake her up on time?” Silver spoon replied in the same snooty manner. “Maybe her mom was drinking too much apple beer the night before.” Diamond Tiara replied with a snicker. “I always wondered why a Pegasus pony was in a school in Ponyville anyways. Shouldn't be in like flight school right now or something?” Silver spoon replied with a snicker of her own. Scootaloo however ignored the two bullies as she strode past them and to the swing set, sat down and began to flutter her small wings to give herself a boost as she began to swing herself back and forth. Speaking as Sweetie Belle and Applebloom were in the afternoon class she had no friends to play with until late in the afternoon. Scootaloo picked up a great deal of speed now on the swing set no longer having to use her wings to keep her moving she was moving back and forth fairly fast now. She loved the swing set more than anything in the playground. With each swing forward she could feel the wind blowing a crossed her face and through her hair. It almost felt like she was flying to her which was more than enough reason for the young Pegasus to love the swing-set more than anything. The day seem to crawl by but soon she was out of school and was waiting on Sweetie Belle and Applebloom to get out of school so she could play with her friends. Fortunately for her it didn't take as long as she thought it would feel for her friends to come charging down to their clubhouse. “Hey, Scootaloo!” Both of her friends called out almost simultaneously. “Hey, girls! How was school?” Scootaloo asked with a smile as she ran over to them. “Miss Cheerilee had us studying equestrian history today.” Sweetie Belle replied with a sour   expression. “It wasn't all that bad. But ah reckon it could have been worse.” Applebloom said with a smile. “Well at least you two don't have to deal with Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon.” Scootaloo replied with a sour expression of her own. “Ah suppose you have a point thar. So what are we going to do today crusaders?” Applebloom asked with a smile. “Hmm....” Sweetie Belle said as she tapped a hoof on her head looking as if she was deep in thought until her face lit up. “I know! Lets go explore than old house by the Everfree forest!” Sweetie Belle exclaimed with a enthusiastic smile. “How would that get us our cutie marks?” Applebloom asked curiously. “I don't know but it's the only place left in Ponyville we haven't check out yet.” The young unicorn replied. “I don't think that's a good idea.” Scootaloo said with an uneasy expression on her face. “Why's that?” Sweetie Belle asked looking confused. “I've been there and it's nothing special. Trust me girls, it would be a waste of time.” Scootaloo replied in a sour tone. “Well, shoot! There goes that idea. Any others?” Sweetie Belle asked.               ============= “Thanks for the help with cleaning up the library again girls. Between all my studying and preparing for the running of the leaves I haven't had much time to clean up much especially with spike in Canterlot for the week.” Twilight said with a smile as she levitated the last book into it's space in the shelf. “Don't sweat it Twilight, I’m always glad to help you out.” Rainbow Dash replied with a smile. “I simply couldn't dream of letting you clean up this horrible mess alone Twilight. It's bad enough your mane looks like it hasn't been well kept in over a week. I'd dread to think what would happen if we had waited any longer to help.” “It's only been two days since I last combed my mane Rarity.” Twilight replied flatly. “I don't comb my mane and look cool as ever!” Rainbow Dash chimed in with a smile. Rarity gave a glace at Dash, and looked as if she was about to have one of her fashion police episodes when she forced one of the ponies to come over to her boutique and get a make over. However instead she forced a smile on her face and gave a weak chuckle. “Eh-heh....I do believe it is time for me to head out. I have a client in an hour who I simply can not miss. Take care of yourselves darlings.” Rarity said, turned around, and walked out the front door. “I should probably get going myself Twilight. I gotta check the clouds one last time before the sun sets. Some of Discord's clouds decided to stick around and ever so often I get reports of chocolate rain and I want to try and avoid that.” Rainbow Dash said with a smile, and took off out of her open window leaving Twilight home alone. Without anything better to do Twilight levitated a book out of one of her shelves, laid it down in front of her, and began to read it.                                                      =============== “See you tomorrow Scootaloo!” Sweetie Belle and Applebloom called out as they both went their separate ways to their homes as the sun began to set. “See you tomorrow! I'll try to think of the awesome things that are going to get us our cutie marks for sure!” Scootaloo called out to the two as they ran off. Scootaloo then jumped on her scooter and using her small wings as a propeller began to bolt her self down the streets of Ponyville. At this time Rainbow Dash was just finishing up checking all the clouds for the downpour that was scheduled to happen tonight when she noticed Scootaloo blazing past below her. “Hey! Where you think your going?! Shouldn't you be heading home?” Rainbow Dash shouted as she darted down flying next to Scootaloo as she blazed down the street. “Hi, Rainbow Dash! I was just heading that way now.” Scootaloo said then skidded to a sudden halt noticing that Dash was still flying next to her a few moments later. “No pony lives down this road though. You sure it's this way?” Rainbow Dash asked curiously looking down the street which had several homes along it with for sale signs planted in front of them or were abandoned. “Oh...umm....heh...maybe I was going the wrong way after all...” Scootaloo said in an uneasy tone turning her scooter around. “Hey, why don't I escort you home. It's getting late and i'm sure your parents are worried about you.” Rainbow Dash offered with a smile. “Really?!” Scootaloo exclaimed as her eyes lit up, however moments later looked just as uneasy as they did before. “I mean, no thanks. My parents know I would never stay out late. Anyways I got to get home before they worry about me.” Scootaloo said turning her scooter around once again without thinking and was just about to dart off before she turned around and saw Dash still hovering there. “You sure you don't need me to help you find your way home kid?” Rainbow Dash asked in a concerned tone. “No, I’m fine. I'll be heading that way now.” Scootaloo replied with a smile, turned her scooter around once again and darted off in the opposite direction. Once she was sure that Rainbow Dash was out of sight she turned her scooter back around and dart back in the direction of the abandoned neighborhood stopping short of the last one on the block just outside of the path leading to the Everfree Forest. Scootaloo gave a few quick glances around to make sure no one was looking, and pushed a small cement block in with her hooves which was just wide enough for her to fit into and crawled inside. Once inside Scootaloo pushed the cement block back in place, walked over to a desk and lit the lamp on the table. “I'm home mom and dad!” Scootaloo shouted out to two pony figures in the other side of the room however neither responded. Scootaloo gave a short depressed sigh, walked past the two pony figures and to the kitchen preparing to fix her dinner when there was a loud knock on the door causing Scootaloo to jump up in surprise. She quickly darted to the front room and blew out the lamp and stood there in the dark quietly. “Scootaloo? You in there? It's me Rainbow Dash!” The voice exclaimed from the other side of the door. Scootaloo however didn't respond and stayed quiet as a mouse. “She can't find me here...not like this.” Scootaloo said quietly to herself hoping that Dash would soon give up and leave. After several tense moments Scootaloo figured that she must have given up and left lit the lamp back up and proceeded to go back to the kitchen to make herself some dinner. About fifteen minuets later Scootaloo came back into the living room carrying a plate of Hay fries on her back to see the cyan colored Pegasus standing in the middle of the room with a confused expression on her face and nearly dropped her plate of hay fries on the floor. “Rainbow Dash! I didn't know you came in.” Scootaloo said in an panicked tone. “What's going on here kid? I thought you were heading home? Why are you in an abandoned home for?” Rainbow Dash asked in a confused yet concerned tone. “That's because...........” Scootaloo replied trailing off, feeling her words falter. Could she really say it? After all, she's managed to keep it a secret for well over two years now. However now it was well past nine o’clock and any filly would be at home with their parents right now. She could tried to think up a clever lie but she wasn't sure Rainbow Dash would buy it. No she couldn't lie to her idol. She would have to tell her the truth. “You promise to keep it a secret?” Scootaloo asked after a few tense moments of silence had past. “That depends.” Rainbow Dash replied her concerned expression having not changed in the slightest. “It's because...this is my home.” Scootaloo said trailing off at first then finishing her sentence in a sad tone as she lowered her head in shame. “What do you mean this is your home? Where are your parents?” Rainbow Dash asked as she felt her sense of worry for the young filly began to over power her curiosity. “I...I don't know. I was brought here when I was really young. Younger than I can remember. There was this old colt who took care of me as long as I could remember. But then about two years ago he...he never came back after he said he had somewhere important to go. He said he wouldn't be gone more than a few days at most but he never came back....” Scootaloo said nearly on the verge of tears now. “How have you been paying for school, food, and stuff every pony needs to survive?” Rainbow Dash asked looking even more concerned for the young filly than ever. “Before he left he told me that if he should not come back there was a old hollow tree on the very edge of Everfree Forest where I could get money to pay for everything. But he said he would and not to worry and that he would come back...but...but....” Scootaloo said now tears swelling up in her eyes as she trailed off before she finally broke down. “HE DIDN'T! HE NEVER CAME BACK!” Scootaloo nearly screamed between sobs as she dropped the plate of hay fries on the floor which clattered and split onto the floor then began to sob loudly into her hooves. Rainbow Dash quickly rushed over to the young filly, sat down on the floor, scooped the orange Pegasus up and held her tightly as she stoked her head softly. “There, there...it's going to be okay.” Rainbow Dash said in a soft tone comforting the young filly who was shaking in her arms. “You must think I’m so lame.” Scootaloo said with a sniffle after several minuets of non-stop sobbing. “And why would I think that?” Rainbow Dash asked in the same comforting soft tone. “Because I have no mommy or daddy and I live in a lame abandoned house.” Scootaloo replied with another sniffle. “No, I don't think you're lame at all. In fact you are way cooler than I ever was at your age.” Rainbow Dash replied letting he normal proud tone slip up a little as she said this. “How so?” Scootaloo replied with yet another sniffle however she had all but stopped crying completely now. “You've been living on your own for two years now and you've managed to take care of yourself so well no pony would ever suspect you lived in this place. And that kid is way cooler than I could ever be.” Rainbow Dash said with a smile. “You-you mean it?” Scootaloo replied stuttering slightly but a smile was beginning to form on the young Pegasus's face. “Is this the face of a pony who would lie to you?” Rainbow Dash replied giving a proud smile. “You promise to keep it a secret then?” Scootaloo said after a few moments smiling now as she wiped her eyes of tears. “I got a better idea. How about you come live with me?” Rainbow Dash suggested before she even realized it. “Really?!” Scootaloo exclaimed, her entire face lighting up with excitement at the suggestion. “Yeah. I got plenty of room. And besides I bet you'd sleep a lot better at night with me watching over you.” Rainbow Dash replied with a smile. Scootaloo without warning leaped at Dash nearly tackling her to the floor with a very tight and loving hug.                                      ========================
