My Little Dictator

Monday, February 10th

Dear Diary,

This is no longer a diary. What happens from here on out is the beginning of a new era of Equestria. This is a history book. Something is wrong with Princess Celestia, she's been acting like someone she's not. Ever since Luna's return, I've been seeing these strange changes in her. What they are, I can't tell.

Today is Monday, February 10th. I plan on going out to see Rainbow Dash and asking her what she's doing for the upcoming Winter Wrap Up. I need to get my list in place so I can know exactly what to do. My hands aren't any good at making birds nests or planting seeds, so I'll make a list, use my magic to keep everything under control and in perfect harmony. Hah! Harmony, because I'm part of the Element's of Harmony? I'm getting better at this joking!

-------

I opened my door to the outside world, tired of being stuffed up in the hot, musty library. I love the books, but the body of a being like me, can only handle so much book stench. I closed the door behind me, and looked up at the sun shining through the leaves above me. It was a sunny, yet brutally cold day, perfect for some indoor readi- NO! GET OFF THE IDEA OF READING.

After my brief reading attack episode, and a few deep breaths later, I began the walk off of my porch. It was a strenuous walk, but it had to be done. With sweat perching my brow, I reached the steps and walked down. The ground touched softly at my feet. It felt good to be outside. I smiled, and walked down the cobbled path towards town. I began to think, wondering where Rainbow could be. Her house was made of clouds, so it was obviously in the sky, unless some fog had begun to form. But with the current wind blowing southwest at a speed of sixteen miles per hour, she could only be one place. Above the middle of town.

"Rainbow! Open up!" I screeched at the white house floating haphazardly in the air. "Your house is tilted to the left and it's floating!" The door opened, and Rainbow peaked her head out at me.

"It's always floating you bird-brain! It's made of clouds!" Rainbow yelled back at me. Ahhh, this game.

"Still titled!" I retorted. "Anyways, Rainbow, what's gotten into you this morning? Tank break your Limited Edition Wonderbolts Action Figure?" Geez, I'm being mean now too. Better lay off.

"No! It's perfectly fine! I got a protective case since the last time he got a hold of it!" Rainbow told me, a grin on her lips.

"Good! Come down here Rainbow, I need to ask you some things!"

As Rainbow flew down to answer my questions with a sigh, I thought over my list for the day, 'Talking to Rainbow - Check' and 'Take Spike to the Dentist Appointment - Next Up!' Today was going to be a busy day. With a thump of Rainbow's feet hitting the ground, I looked over at her, and smiled. She returned the smile, "What's up Twilight?"

"Well," I said, "I have some questions about what you're going to do dur-"

"Twilight, what's up with Celestia lately?" Rainbow cut me off.

"Hmm? Oh, she's probably just busy." I answered.

"Really? Because it seems as if she's acting a little weird, I mean she DID restrict the leaving of Equestria without government permission, along with the removal of all nobles." Rainbow said, "It's kind of like she's removing everyone else from power, minus Luna. Also, did you see the mass amounts of guards in town today? There''s a ton of them for some reason." And easily enough, looking around I counted up fifteen uniformed guards patrolling the streets. "And we don't have any special event coordinated for today, so I'm just a little confused." Rainbow finished.

"I don't know Rainbow, I really don't," I responded. As we were talking to each other about the happening of the town and such, a guard walked up behind us and cleared his throat.

"Ma'ams, it is of your best interest to be in home at eight thirty tonight, as a curfew has been placed across Equestria. Please pass along the message to others." He said, and with a tip of his head, walked away.

I looked after the man until he walked to a group of stallions, and repeated the same statement. "That was.. weird." I concluded.

"Weird?!" Rainbow questioned me, "We have a curfew now! In the country that was founded with freedom in mind! Something's up Twilight, I know it."

"Look," I said, "I'm going to go home and read about it, and contact Celestia. I'll figure this out, it's nothing more than a misunderstanding."

-------

I write here to tell of what I found in research. Below is a list of reasons this could be happening.

- Terrorism
- Surprise Events

But these are the only two that I could think of. Maybe Rainbow is right, and something is up.

-------

I walked back to Rainbow's house, at a quicker pace than before. I had to tell her what I found out. I reached her house, and began the ritual of dragging her out of the house with words. After she came down to the ground to listen to me, she said, "What'd you find out, Twilight?"

I looked at my friend, eager to hear of my findings that would be the cause for this odd activity put into place by our leader. "Well, Rainbow... I have found absolutely nothing." I stuttered out, "There seems to be no rhyme nor reason why Celestia is doing this! Terrorism hasn't been a problem for hundreds of years, and it's nobodies birthday today, so I'm just as confused as you are."

"Twilight, I'm scared. Something is wrong, and you know it. I'm going in now, it's almost 'curfew'." Rainbow told me, using hand apostrophes over 'curfew'. I began to head back to the library, and went inside where I sat down on the couch to do more research in comfort.

"All able bodied earth stallions and mares, magically strong unicorns, and quick pegasi. Join the United Equestrian Military Force. Become one of the fighting forces for your beloved country! Be a hero!" It was Celestia's voice, playing over a commercial on the TV.

Following the voice over were more commercials about the military, what it offers, and what you have to do to be qualified to join. I think I'd rather stay here, in my warm library, than go to a military school though. As I sat on my couch wandering through the book in my lap, I couldn't find anything that would explain Celestia's over zealous behavior. I realized what it was all for in that one moment.

War.

-------

Rainbow says it begins with one thing taken away, like our curfew. She says more will begin to follow, and that we'll be forced into submission by the government with all it's new soldiers. She says it's wrong, demeaning, and thoughtless. She's asking me to help her start a protest force, to protest and petition Celestia's rulings. I love the princess with all my heart, but I am beginning to think, is this really for the best?

The first meeting is on Wednesday. I think I'll go, just to see what Rainbow has planned, and the see if anyone will actually show up. I'm in the middle here, caught between my friendship for Rainbow, and how she'll always be loyal to what's right, and what my mentor and ruler has set up, even deeming it to be wrong. I guess you could say I'm scared. I guess you could say I'm a whimp too for not choosing. But what you can't say is that I'll just let something slide this easy.
