The Girl

A Girl and her Blot

Lily smiled to herself as she curled into a large, warm figure.

Said figure was hugging her tightly, keeping her off of the cold, stone floor- those bright green eyes and wide grin staring down at her.

She wiggled against the hulking figure in an attempt to keep warm.

The human girl and the ink-monster were an odd pair, to say the least; the two had been together for who-knows-how-long, both of them had been frightened of each other all those weeks ago. When she had lived a normal life, when her parents had still loved her, when she had lived back on Earth. Right now, though, she was content with laying with her teddy bear and her Blot.

She liked it here, it was much more lush and beautiful than Earth had ever been, no pollution, no obnoxious noise, and she got to keep her best friend.

Most of the people that had met Blot were either scared or angry, at what, she didn't know- once you got to know him, he was like a giant, inky teddy bear. Though he could snap you in half if he thought you were even just a little dangerous; despite this, he never raised his hand against her, even when she'd angered him (which happened on more than one occasion). Those same people had found his appearance off putting, as well- the dark purple/black surface of his form and bright green eyes were enough to prevent anyone from getting within five feet of them.

The moon continued its ascent as she stared up at it, the large white sphere was unblocked as clouds drifted out of its way.
'Just the way it should be...' she thought, drifting off to sleep.

The sun had indeed decided to rise that morning, if the magnificent ball of fire in the sky was any indication.
Lily groaned as she rubbed the crud out of her eyes, and looked to her left, seeing the Blot spread out on the floor.
Rooting through her small knapsack, the girl pulled two granola bars out of one of the pockets. She set the second bar down, and set to work tearing the cellophane off of the first, she bit into it as the Blot rolled over and 'stood', she didn't exactly know what he was doing- seeing as he had no legs, just a long trail of ink connecting with the rest of his body.

"Good to see you're finally up" she said, watching his green eyes connect with hers
"Grr" he grumbled
"I got you breakfast" she said, offering the granola to him
The Blot shook his hooded head and pushed the bar back towards her with a great claw
"You need to eat something- I don't need it, see?"
She held up her own for emphasis
He shook his head again and patted her head with the same claw.

"You know I hate it when you do that..."
"Grr"
"Why don't you ever eat anything?"
He only shrugged and looked skyward to the sun
"Grrr?"
"Yes, that's the sun, it's beautiful, isn't it?"
"Gr"
"Yeah, you should have seen the moon last night"
"Grr-"
"Yes, I went to sleep" she sighed, rolling her eyes "I'm six, you don't need to watch me every second"

The Blot gave her a flat look and raised one of his non-existent eyebrows

"Rrr..."
"I know, I know..."
"Grr?"
"I don't know, I haven't looked outside, do you think there's anyone out here?"
"Rrr"
"I guess...but you never know"
"Grr"
"Come on, there's a forest out there- we have to go and explore it"
"Gr?"
"Why? It's in the rules of course!"
"Grr?"
"Well, I don't have the book with me right now, of course..."
He shot her a look as if to say 'Oh Really?'
After a few more minutes, of begging, the Blot held her hand as they exited through the old, wooden doors of the old castle

'Funny' she wondered, staring up at him as they went 'sometimes I wonder which of us is the child'

She found this amusing as she thought back to all the times she'd been called to play the part of the older sibling in the relationship.
One paticular incident with wanting to pet the neighbor's cat especially stood out in her mind.

A strange pair broke through the heavy foliage of the Everfree, walking slowly into the clearing.
"How long do you think this forest goes on?" Lily asked, brushing wayward twigs and leaves from her legs.
The Blot shrugged and pointed upward
"No, you can't fly up there, someone might see you"

He seemed to deflate as he sat down
"I know, but we can't be seen until we know if anyone's out here, then you can fly around as much as you want"
He perked up immediately and took her hand in his large, inky claw.

"Alright! Alright!" she giggled, being tugged forward a few feet at a time.

Fluttershy hummed to herself as she filled Angel's food dish with lettuce.
She jumped as a small bird launched itself into the house.

"Oh, hello Mrs. Hummingbird, what's wrong?"
The bird sat on the table and flapped its wings as panicked chirps and tunes escaped its beak.
"Oh dear, a p-pair of m-monsters?"

The hummingbird nodded hurriedly.

"I'd better go and tell Twilight, then- Angel!"
Said bunny hopped onto the table, scaring the hummingbird.

"I have to go out for a few minutes, would you mind keeping an eye on things while I'm out?"
The rabbit saluted.
"Oh good, I knew I could count on you"

Fluttershy bade farewell to her animal friends as she quickly trotted out of her house and down the street, towards the library.
