Twilight used to be my best friend. Now she's my worst enemy. Not that I have any other enemies. She kept me away from almost every other filly and colt my age, and all to study. I guess it's no surprise that I only have books and the girls for friends. Twilight says it's for the best. I sure don't think so, not right now. She never prepared me enough to face this. To face my best friend betraying me like this.
"Night Star, come join ussss. We will be your best friends forever." I heard voices in the wind.
"Listen to yourself, Star. You're so cold you're hearing things." I said aloud.
"No, you're not. Something actually said that. I thought Moonbeam, Thunder and I were your best friends?" A voice said accompanied by a trotting gait.
"Silverstar?" I asked. "You followed me? Are you doing this for the Elements?" I asked, using our name referring to Twilight, Applejack, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, and Fluttershy.
"Of course not, silly! Anyway, how'd you get this far into the Everfree?" She asked.
"I-I ra-ran away." I replied.
"Really? That's what-" She asked, her eyes going wide.
"That's what what?" I asked.
"Nothing. I-I didn't say anything." Silverstar was a terrible liar. Even she knew that.
"Yes, you did."
"I'll tell you when we figure out what to do, ok?"
"What to do about what?"
"Where're we going to sleep? What are we going to do?"
"Oh. Right. That. We could go ask Fluttershy for help. She has experience with this."
"Wait! Remember that story Twilight told us, about when Pinkie used the Mirror Pool, and the animals let them stay in their homes?" Silverstar burst out suddenly.
"That's a great idea! Wait, wouldn't the animals tell Fluttershy where we went?"
"Not if they promise?"
"A promise won't help anything right now, Silver."
"I know." Silver said with a sigh as we walked slowly into a glade. The sunshine was warm on our backs as we emerged from the cool forest.
"What if we stay in the Mirror Pool cave?" I asked tentatively.
"But, Twilight put a boulder in front of it, remember?"
"Magic, remember?"
"Oh yeah!"
"Let's do it! Do you know where we are?"
"Not really. Why don't you fly up and see?"
"If I fly, then Twilight or Rainbow Dash could see me."
"Oh. Right. Um, we could go back and ask Zecora?"
"The Elements could still be there, and anyway, Zecora would tell them."
"Right. Well, how about if we walk in a straight line up to the pool entrance?"
"How would that work? We don't know where we are!"
"Look in front of you."
"Oh. Oh! Come on! Let's get this boulder off, and then we can settle down for the night."
"Oh, I wish I had had Rarity show me how to sew by hoof."
"Twilight showed me how. She said I had to know, if I was ever going to be prepared."
"Prepared for what?"
"I have no idea."
"Oh, well. We'll figure that out when we come to it."
"Ok. Come on, we should go inside. We need our rest if we're going to go anywhere tomorrow."
"Alright, then." Silver said as we entered the Mirror Pool cavern and found some moss and settled down for the night.
