//------------------------------// // Family // Story: The Past of a Shy Mare // by Songbrony //------------------------------// I awoke when I heard a sound come from the counter. I was still nestled in Rainbow's chest. She was still asleep, snoring. "He-hello?" I called out. There wasn't a response. I slowly got out of the bed and looked the room. The moon was shining brightly through the window. I walked to the balcony and looked around the building. There was a crash by the counter. I turned around and saw a glass shattered on the ground. "What a lovely place you're at." I heard a voice say in the shadows. "Who's there?" I asked, shakily. "It's almost peaceful. I can see why the Doctor put you here." the female voice said. I saw a figure move out of the shadows. They were still hidden underneath their dark cloak. "Who are you? And how did you find us?" I asked. "That depends on how you look at me. I could be a friend, an acquaintance, an enemy, or maybe a mother." she said. "What do you mean?" I saw her move towards the bed. "It's funny how little we all are. Even those who hold power are weak when it comes to how we act." She knelt down on the bed and moved Rainbow's mane out of her face. "What are you doing?!" I shouted at her, running towards her. "You're feelings for her are stronger than I had thought. Good. It'll be easier for us then." she said. I stepped in between her and Rainbow. "Soon, you'll have to make a choice." "A choice that will protect her, or kill her. A choice of whether I'm your friend...or your foe." "I'll always stand by Rainbow Dash." I said. "We'll see." she said, laughing maniacally. I woke up in the bed still cuddled next to Rainbow Dash. The sun had started shining through the window, warming my bed. Was it just a dream? I thought. Rainbow let out a yawn as I shuffled a little closer to her. "Hey, Fluttershy." she said, pulling me close. I felt the warmth of her body press against me. "Hey." I said. I gave her a good morning kiss. "How did you sleep?" "Great." she said. "Me too. I never left your side and it was so nice." I said. There was some shuffling by the counter. We both looked over and saw Felix cooking some breakfast. "You hungry?" Rainbow said. I nodded my head and we got up and sat at the table where he had already poured us some apple juice. "You know, next time you two decide to have your little alone fun time, please leave a warning so I'm not shocked when I see my sister and her mare friend kissing under the covers!" Felix exclaimed as we waited for our toast. I turned a bright red as I finished my glass. I had hoped he hadn't seen us. It was embarrassing knowing that Felix knew what we did. "I mean, I'm perfectly okay with you two having your alone time together, but at least a sock on the door would be helpful!" I looked to Rainbow who's face was a bright red as well with her mouth wide open. "Felix!" she exclaimed. "You don't see me flaunching my nights around, do you?" he asked. "That's not even a word. And you don't have any nights out." Rainbow said. "Well, he did go out last night, so he may-" I started but she kicked me under the table. "What?" I asked. "I don't know what all the fuss is about. We didn't do anything, so stop blowing it out of proportion." she said. "Oh please! I could smell teenage hormones from a mile away! I'm surprised you two weren't hanging from the roof!" Her cheeks turned even brighter and I felt my face turn another shade of red as Felix's smile grew. "Felix!" Rainbow exclaimed again. He just laughed and placed our toast on our plates. Please let this stop... I thought. It was so embarrassing knowing that he saw us! "Hello everypony! Lovely morning!" the Doctor said as he opened the door. Thank Celestia. I thought. "Hello, Doctor." I said. It is a lovely morning. Oh, I hope Angel is alright. I haven't fed him for a few days." "Ah, he's fine. I stopped by your house before I came here. He's a very picky bunny, I don't know how you are able to deal with him." he said. "Ooo toast!" he said, grabbing a piece right off of Rainbow's plate. "Hey!" she exclaimed. I held back a laugh. "I was eating that!" "And now you aren't." he said, taking a bite out of the toast as he walked to the balcony. "You know, this is a beautiful city. Makes me wish I had wings like you three. Oh well! There's always next time." he said. "What do you mean next time?" I asked. "Oh just the usual change of time, space, the universe, excuse me." he said, taking the plate of toast from Felix. "Well isn't he being exceptionally rude today?" Rainbow whispered to Felix. "Am I being rude?" he asked, biting another piece of toast. "Well you did just steal my breakfast and break into our hotel room." she said accusingly. I'm glad he's here. Saves us from the embarrassing conversation with your brother. I thought. "I didn't break in! I soniced the door and walked in without your permission." he said casually. Rainbow gave him a glare. "Oh that is breaking and entering isn't it? Oh well, sorry about that. This is good toast!" "It's just wheat bread in a toaster..." Felix said. "Wheat bread? Who would'a thought!" the Doctor said, taking another bite. "Um, Doctor?" I asked. "What are you doing here anyway?" "Oh, right! I remember now! It's safe for you to go home. The princess cast a spell to warn her if somepony who isn't suppose to be there is, well, there." he said. "Great. Never thought I'd have to be living under surveillance." Rainbow said, still poking at her empty plate. "Ah don't look at it as surveillance." the Doctor said as he walked back to the table. "Look at it as somepony knowing when somepony shouldn't be at your house by using some form of magic to know what's happening." he rambled. "Great. I definitely don't feel like I'm under surveillance now." she said sarcastically. "Good! Now I found these on your kitchen table. I believe this is today, right?" he said, pulling out the Wonderbolts tickets from his pocket. "Oh, horse apples!" Rainbow shouted. "I completely forgot about that! Thanks Doctor!" "Don't mention it. And I believe someone else you know will be there!" he said and walked to the door. "Who?" I asked. "An old friend from Ponyville. I believe her name was Applesauce. Or was it Apple Pie? Apple Fritter?" the Doctor said to himself. "Applejack. Her name is Applejack." Rainbow said as she planted her hoof on her face. "Right! Anyways, I can see you guys are eating breakfast, so I'll leave you three alone. Have a good day!" he said and rushed out the door, leaving it wide open. "Like I said. Rude." Rainbow said as she went and closed the door. "He didn't even leave any bread for us!" she shouted as Felix threw an empty bread bag away. "It's just the Doctor being the Doctor. I'm sure he's not always like that." I said. He was generally a nice guy. He was probably just stressing over what happened yesterday. "It still doesn't mean he can eat all of our food." Rainbow said as her stomach grumbled. "Yeah, well, he brought you your Wonderbolts tickets, so I wouldn't be complaining too much." Felix said. "Yeah I guess." I said. It finally hit me. "Oh hay barrels! The Wonderbolts meet and greet is today!" she exclaimed. "Yeah...the Doctor just said that..." Felix said. "Are you excited?" I asked. Even though I got them for her, I was pretty excited to see their show. They were the very best of the best and had amazing shows. I was pretty certain Rainbow could easily join the Wonderbolts once she was old enough to. "Of course I am! It's the Wonderbolts for pony's sake! It's going to be so awesome!" she shouted. "Well you better get ready. According to the tickets, it starts in two hours." Felix pointed out. "Ah horse apples." she said. She flew out the door without even waiting for me. I wasn't surprised that she did. These were her idols and ponies she looked up to. "She seems to be a little over zealous." Felix said. "It's just Rainbow. Anything with the Wonderbolts gets her all riled up." I said. I thought back to my dream last night. Soon you'll have to make a choice. A choice that will protect her, or kill her. I still didn't know who that pony was. I didn't recognize the voice and couldn't see any facial features. "You okay?" Felix asked me. "Yeah. I'm fine. Just thinking about my dad." I said. "Well don't worry about him. He's in the Princess' custody. She'll make sure he doesn't get anywhere." he said. "Besides, if he tries anything, you'll have me and Rainbow to protect you. I've said it before and I'll say it again. You are like a sister to me and I'll protect you the same way I do Rainbow Dash." I smiled at his reassurance. "Thanks Felix." I said. I ran up to him and gave him a tight hug. I didn't have any siblings who would protect me from my parents, and that was probably for the best. If I had siblings I didn't want them to receive the same torments that I went through. "No problem, Flutters. Now go on, catch up with Rainbow Dash. You know she'll already be home fan-girling like she always does. "Okay. I'll see you later Felix!" I said and ran out of the door. I forgot about my parents and the dream. I had a good family and ponies who cared for me now. I didn't need to worry about anything else anymore.
