Dark Magic

Edge of Darkness

The purple alicorn pony galloped through the ruins of her teacher's castle. The hour was late, far from after Luna had raised the moon, about 3 hours past midnight. She didn't want anypony to know she was coming here. This was her time for her 'special' training. The princess pony slowly approached the library where she found the diary of princesses' and there she also found something else. Something that intrigued her more than anything else.

The pony, known as Twilight Sparkle, lifted one of the old torn tarps from off the wall and began to glare at the strange markings carved into the wall behind it. Her eyes flared a reddish green around her pupils and a dark purple aura formed from around her eyes.

Once she built up enough of the dark magic, her horn grew a black toxic aura around it and then shot a beam into the markings. A rumbled noise came after and began to shake the ground as a wall lifted to reveal a hidden room. Twilight stood her ground, making sure not to fall down. She had fell the first time she'd opened the secret room, and knew better this time. She had gotten use to this routine for awhile now.

The room was darkly lit, only a few torches perched up on the wall illuminated it. Sitting there in the middle of the room, was a book sitting open on the top of a stand. Twilight stretched out her wings and lifted herself off the ground. She turned around, and used the dark magic to lower the wall before gliding to sit on her haunches in front of the book. There was princess sat and read of the magic that she's grown obsessed to use. That of wish she became interested in learning.

"Twilight?"

The purple pony stirred around in her small bed, only letting out a few groans of protest.

"Twilight!"

She opened her eyes up slowly, blinking a few times to adjust her vision. She looked over to the side of her bed and there stood a small purple dragon looking up at her. She frowned, a bit cranky. She had spent more time out then she had planned to. "What is it, Spike?" she asked in an annoyed tone.
"Sorry, Twilight. Its just, you've been asleep for a long time. I was surprised when I got up that you were still asleep. Usually, your up before me. You were suppose to head down to Apple Arces 20 minutes ago, I think everypony is waiting for you.By the way-"

"Ugh," Twilight scoffed before correcting herself. "Sorry Spike, I'm just a little tired is all." She jumped down from her bed and headed to the door. "You stay here, I need you to put back those books over there," she said in between yawns. Before Spike could say anything, she had already went out the door.

I need to go a little earlier next time, she thought to herself as she flew towards Apple Arces. She'd gotten used to flying with her new wings after awhile that it was becoming something that was more usually to do than it did a couple weeks ago.

"There she is!" a high pitched voice shouted. Twilight saw her friends from a distance. They were sitting on a picnic table eating lunch. "Hey Sugarcube, we didn't think you were gonna make it," Applejack said as she landed and took her seat.

"I'm sorry guys, I overslept," she apologized. "Thats new," Rarity spoke, "You usually are a bit too early for things like this." The white unicorn's comment made Twilight frown a bit.

"It's fine, Twilight. We actually just started eating," Fluttershy commented. Her sweet voice made Twilight feel a bit better. She levitated a daisy sandwich toward her mouth before taking a bite. The rainbow haired Pegasus sitting across from her stared deeply at her. "Whats wrong with your eyes?" she asked. Twilight raised a brow toward her before Pinkie Pie grabbed her face and began squeezing it. The pink pony stared at her wide eye'd before shouting and falling backwards.
"You sure ya okay there, Sugarcube? Your eyes are a bit, erm," the country pony said as she walked over to the alicorn and placing a hoof on her shoulder. Twilight began to feel a bit frustrated, "I'm fine. What do you mean whats up with my eyes?" Rarity levitated a mirror from one of her saddle bags that sat next to her on the bench. "Well just look at yourself, Darling. You look absolutely dreadful!" Fluttershy turned her head and frowned towards the white unicorn. "What?" she asked. Applejack glared over to Rarity, "Just leave the honesty to me, Rare."
Twilight stared into the mirror. Her mane was messy and her eyes were blood shot, but it wasn't just that. Around her pupil there was a reddish green color that faded into her usual eye color. She ignored it. That happened often after she'd practice using dark magic, but she was concerned because the effects didn't usually last this long.
She simply pushed the mirror away, "I'm fine. I was just up late studying is all. I just need to sleep."

"Are you sure?" Rainbowdash asked her. "I'm fine," she said firmly as she grew angry.

"But-"

STOP.

"I'm fine."

"Twilight, we just-"

STOP IT.

"I'm okay, just-"

SHUT UP.

"Twilight?"

"LEAVE ME ALONE!" the alicorn yelled in the royal canterlot voice as a beam of magic shot from her horn and blasted the ponies away from her. They were sprawled around in different directions. Each were covered in scratches or bruises, Applejack and Rainbowdash were the only two who had enough strength to at least look at her. They were both wide eye'd and terrified.

Twilight stared at them, sadness in her eyes as she could not believe what she had just done. Her gazed quickly hardened as she opened her wings and launched herself into the air, fleeing the scene.

"Twilight, wait!"
