//------------------------------// // Rarity's Aching Heart // Story: Rarity's Beautiful Heart // by AlpacaAlliance //------------------------------// It was a beautiful afternoon in Ponyville. Not a single cloud in the sky. Everypony was out enjoying the fresh air with somepony they loved. Love was in the air and nothing could ruin this wonderful day. "I think we should just be friends." The words were blurted out from the mouth of a crying mare. A grey stallion with a clover for a cutiemark, just stared. He couldn't believe after almost four months of being together, she already wanted to split. "I'm sorry, Lucky, but this just can't work! We aren't meant to be.." The distraught mare sighed. "Rarity..you can't be serious! Just give us another chance" Lucky protested. Rarity shook her head. "I can't. I hope that you find the mare right for you..but that mare is not me." She said, trying not to cry in front of him. Lucky knew there was no point trying to get her to stay, she wanted to leave and there was no stopping her. "Goodbye, Lucky." Rarity turns away and left down the road without another word. She walked down a path to her boutique. This has been the fourth time she has broken up with a stallion because she felt no passion or true love between them. She unlocks her boutique's door and walks inside. She flips the light switch and sighed. "Again. Fourth time. I don't know what I am doing wrong! This is obviously my fault!" Rarity plops down onto her couch and stared out her window at the setting sun. Opalescent pounces onto the couch and lays next to Rarity. "Oh hello, darling. Mama's not in a very good mood right now." The unicorn pouted. "I don't want to become a lonely cat lady. Maybe I'm just dating the wrong type." Rarity shrugged and slumped down on her couch. Rarity suddenly heard a knock at her door. "I wonder who that could be..better not be Lucky." She gets up from her couch and opens her door. Pinkie was standing at the door. She was swaying side to side, giggling. "Hi-ya Rare Rare! You would not believe what Gummy did today! He spat his punch all over the floor! When I was cleaning up the punch, I thought about how much you liked my punch! Then I thought, I should go visit Rarity and tell her this!" Pinkie grins, her smile stretching from ear to ear. Rarity wipes the running makeup from her eyes and smiled at Pinkie's cheery behavior. Pinkie Pie noticed that Rarity had been crying and gasped. "Rarity? Is everything alright?" Pinkie cocked her head to the side and flattened her ears. "Oh yes, darling..I'm quite alright..It's just that Lucky and I broke up. I dumped him. I'm just awful, I know." Rarity lowers her head. Pinkie shook her head. "Oh no! no! no! You aren't awful!" Pinkie hugs Rarity. "Don't think like that!" Pinkie Pie put on the biggest smile she could. Rarity sighs and tried her best to smile for Pinkie as she held her. "Thank you Pinkie...But this has happened far too many times." Pinkie grabs Rarity's hoof and pulls her to the couch. She sits down and pats the seat next to her. Rarity sits down next to Pinkie, still looking a bit upset about all that has happened today. "Rarity..you need to stop being so hard on yourself. You can't control who you love, so don't feel so guilty." Pinkie Pie said. The usually bubbly and giggly mare looked more serious than ever. Rarity lifted her head up. "Am I just not ready for a relationship? Am I just looking for the wrong stallions? I just feel no connection with any of them! It's just..boring..no passion!" Rarity said, rather dramatically. Pinkie looks up and taps her chin, deep in thought. "Hmm..well maybe it's that..but what if you need something more than stallions?" Pinkie looks back down at Rarity. Rarity gave Pinkie a confused expression. "What does that mean..? More than stallions?" Pinkie taps her hooves together. "Well..maybe you like mares..ever thought of that?" Rarity's eyes widened in surprise. "Mares?! No!..I mean..It's not a bad thing!" Rarity rubs the back of her head and bites her bottom lip. "I've never thought of that..I don't think I am like that." Rarity paused, thinking deeply about what Pinkie said. Though she's never thought about asking a mare out, she had thought about being with them before. Is this what she has been looking for? Is this why she could never make it work with a stallion? Rarity looks back at Pinkie and nervously smiled. "Oh well..I guess it has crossed my mind a few times." Rarity admitted. Pinkie giggled and holds Rarity's hooves. "It's okay Rarity! Nopony here will judge you..just be honest with yourself..Do you feel like maybe a mare might suit you better?" The question sounded simple, but Rarity has never been so confused. She was almost twenty three years old and just now she is figuring out herself? "I don't know, Pinkie. I think I need a minute to think." Pinkie Pie nodded. "Just come by to Sugar cube Corner when you've figured things out...and Rarity, I'll support you no matter what!" Pinkie Pie smiles at Rarity, assuring her. Rarity give a small smile and nods slowly. "Thank you Pinkie. I'll let you know." Pinkie trots out the boutique, leaving Rarity alone to think. After spending the whole evening thinking, Rarity had to go get some rest. She walks upstairs, puts on her robe, and goes through her mane with a brush a few times. Rarity climbs into bed and stares up at her ceiling. Opalescent soon joins her, jumping onto the bed and laying on the end of the bed. "Pinkie Pie is so sweet..giving me advice and worrying about me. She's always going out her way to make sure I am as happy as she is." Rarity thought to herself, letting out a happy sigh. Rarity snuggled into her blanket and giggled. "Maybe she was right..Stallions have never pleased me..maybe it's mares I've been looking for all along." Rarity yawns and rolls over. "I'll worry about it tomorrow.." She closes her eyes. "Goodnight, Opal." Opal meows in response before falling asleep along with Rarity.
