Bonding in a Blizzard

Chapter 1- Brotherly Love

ThunderThrash flew up in the sky, the freezing wind whipping at his grey mane. Even at the young age of thirteen, his wings were still very strong. In fact, they were so strong they could pull him through the incoming blizzard. Snow began to fall, and it flew into his face. The cold snow stung his face as he flew through the sky at top speed against the wind. He has to make it home. He never thought that staying out at his hideout longer than he was supposed to would actually result in a terrible disaster. His house came into view, and relief filled him.

Thunder glanced at his watch, "I'm fifteen minutes late!" He muttered to himself. The snow was beginning to fall more rapidly by the second. Thunder shivered. His bright yellow coat was no match for the strong winds and rapidly falling snow. Thunder came to a skidding halt in front of his families tall, wooden house. His house sat next to a calm lake just outside Ponyville.

That once calm lake was now frozen solid, but no less beautiful. It gleamed a baby blue when a little sun that managed to peek through the clouds and reflect upon it. Thunder loved his home. Thunder loved his family. But sometimes, he felt like a fifth wheel and an outcast, even to his own family. Especially after the incident that occurred just five years ago...

Though it was only Twelve o'clock PM, it was pitch black outside. If Thunder didn't know any better, he'd say it was midnight. The sky that not twenty minutes ago was a calm light blue, was now polluted with dark, unwelcoming grey clouds that hid Celestia's bright sun away.

Thunder threw open the doors to his house and rushed in, wrestling with the wind to close the door. His twin brother, Lightning Lash, was pacing by the fire place. Lightning had a grey coat and a bright yellow mane, the exact opposite of Thunder (who had a yellow coat and a grey mane). Lightning turned to him, his lime green eyes burrowing deep into Thunder's very soul.

"Where have you been?" Lightning demanded, his voice sounding equally angry and concerned.

"I was just-"

"Mom and Dad were worried sick! They went looking for you five minutes ago!" Lightning pulled a blanket out of the corner of the room using his unicorn magic and wrapped it around his twin brother. The odd thing about the two brothers was Lightning was a unicorn, while Thunder was a Pegusus. This just made Thunder's "outcast" status worse, because both his parents were unicorns.

Thunder rolled his eyes,"Why do you always have to take charge!" He asked, annoyed at his brother's bossiness.

"What did I ever do? I'm just trying to help!" Lightning's mind was racing. He thought of about one thousand mean things he could say to his brother. Like maybe 'maybe because some ponies don't know how to take charge!' and much more nasty comebacks, but he decided to hold his tongue. Many fights would arise from angry comments and comebacks, fights that he knew very well.

Thunder decided not to let Lightning have the last word,"Why are you pacing?"

"What do you mean?" Lightning's face became a bright shade of crimson.

"I mean why are you pacing. That's what I asked is it not?" He pointed out lightning's legs, which walked back and fourth, still not stopping,"You only ever pace when your nervous."

"Nonsense," Lightning said, forcing himself to stop walking. His legs began to shake, as his urge to pace rose.

"We should call Mom and Dad, tell them their favorite foal is safe." Thunder said grinning.

Lightning sighed,"Ok I'll tell them that their idiot son is home, and he sadly didn't die."

Thunder frowned, trying to ignore the hurt feeling in his stomach as Lightning picked up the phone with his levitation spell and dialed their parents cell phone number. Lightning took a deep breath, ready to explain his brothers failings...again. But no pony picked up. Lightning frowned and put the phone away.

"Thanks to you are parents are out in a horrible blizzard!"

"Don't blame me for this!"

"Well you hear that sound coming from my mouth? That means I am!" Lightning was frustrated and scared, that his parents were unsafe. It was all Thunder's fault. As usual.

Thunder frowned,"I was just-"

"I don't want to lose our parents like we lost our little sister!" Lightning said, but regretted the words as soon as they left his mouth. There was a horrible silence, as Thunder stood there wide eyed. He turned away from his brother, his heart beating fast.

"I-I'm going upstairs." And with that, he trotted up the stairs. Lightning perked up, wanting to cheer up his brother all of the sudden.

"Are you going to pay Haylo? I wanna play!" He yelled after, hoping to break the tension.

Video games always worked. Within an hour, it was as if nothing had occurred between them. As far as they were concerned, there was no blizzard outside. They had been playing for about an hour, Lightning and Thunder where firing away at each other in a game of Haylo.

"Take that you mother bucker!" Thunder laughed, throwing a sticky grenade at Lightning, who watched in horror as his Spartan exploded, killing him for the 25th time, causing him to win the game.

Lighting tossed his control in anger using is unicorn magic,"How are you even playing like that!!" He paused, motioning with his hooves to Thunders wings, which were slamming the controls,"better yet, how are you winning like that?!?"

Thunder grinned,"Its called The Art of Wing Slamming."

"You just now made that up!"

"That I did brother. That I did." The pegusus smiled brightly.

After Lightning retrieved his controller from the corner of the room, they started a new game.

Lightning rushed strategically and swiftly around the Haylo map. He jumped Thunder from above, laughing,"I have you now!" Feeling fulfilled as he spotted Thunder, he jumped from above, about to complete his final kill and win the game. He pulled out his energy sword. Right before he could hit his brother with his prized weapon, the game suddenly shut down, along with the lights.

"COME ON!!!" Lightning yelled at the television.

Thunder cracked up,"I guess that means Game Over for you !" Lightning burst into laughter along with his brother.

A few seconds later, Lighting realized something and stopped laughing,"Wait! What time is it?" Thunder stopped laughing and glanced at his watch.

"Its two thirty-seven." He said, biting his lip.

"Mom and Dad should've been home hours ago!"

Thunder frowned. He couldn't survive alone with his brother! Any dolt with half a mind knew that! Lighting felt many feelings build up, and created an image in his mind of his parents trapped, frozen in the snow.

"This is all your fault!" The unicorn yelled at his brother, angrily. Furious tears formed in his eyes. The words rang through Thunder's ears like a song. He heard that one so many times, it sounded like a broken record to him. Everything was his fault.

And if his parents died in a blizzard, that would be his fault too.
