The Power of Portals

Chapter 9

Jodi and I were talking, and eating our complimentary dinner from the train. I ordered some steak, but the mares that served the food didn't know what that was, so I stuck with a salad. It was getting late by the time we finished. The sun created the illusion that it was still roughly noon though. I shut the curtains on all the windows to make it dark in the car.
"Well Jodi, I'm going to go to sleep now." I said, hopping up on the bed. I snuck over to the side that was closest to the wall in case she got tired too.
"All right, good night Joe." she said, finishing up her dinner.
"Good night." I said with a yawn. I shut my eyes and rested my head on the pillow. I could tell she finished her dinner soon after, because I felt and heard her crawl into the bed next to me. I laughed in my mind. Most of the guys I know would kill to be in this same position, pony or not. I let my mind slip into the dream scape.

When I woke up, I went to stretch, but stopped short of doing so. Jodi's head was resting on my chest, and her arms holding me into a very soft embrace. I never realized before, but her coat felt like, well, felt. I smiled at her slumbering form. I put my hoof behind her head and ran it through her mane a little bit, then I kissed her forehead. She stirred at this contact. She hugged me tighter and put a leg on my waist. She nuzzled her head up, she bumped my chin and this woke her up. She blinked a few times quickly then looked at me. I gave her a short, friendly smile. She panicked and shoved me away. She rolled over and stared at the rest of the car, only allowing me to see her back. I caught her blushing in the split second I could still see her.
"Jodi? Are you all right?" I asked her.
"Uhh, yup. Couldn't be better." she answered.
"You sure?"
"Yeah, I just, need some alone time." She crawled out of the bed and ran over to the table. She slid into one of the booth chairs and sat there. She put a hoof to her cheek and put her elbow on the table. She absently drew pictures on the table with her other hoof. I could tell she was thinking about something, what it was, I couldn't tell. I walked over to her and kissed her cheek,
"Tell me, whats wrong?"
"I don't want to talk about it.
"You know, its always better if you talk about it right?"
"Fine. Its just, I, I like you Joe, and, like, it just happened so fast, I, I just don't know."
