//------------------------------// // The Great Date // Story: A Great And Powerful Feeling // by bakersong //------------------------------// As she woke up she couldn't help but smile to herself. She had a date today with that show mare Trixie, and she already had the date planned out if she showed up. But she still needed to work so she got out of bed before the crack of dawn and started to makehome made pie like she always did. After an hour or two she realized what time it was and switched her sign from closed to open, her smile never going away. Though it did get nervous as noon started to slowly come up, she had trouble remembering if she had told Trixie exactly what time she took her lunch break. As she thought about it she knew she hadn't told her anything like that, just that she could come over at lunch. But some ponies had different lunch schedules and she normally took hers right at twelve o'clock. She wondered if Trixie had a show planned for that time, or if she would even show up. Though thinking about Trixie made her blush from remembering last night. "Oh hey Cherry, you look rather happy today. Also kind of look rather nervous as well." Cherry turned her head to see Twilight Sparkle standing there. "Yeah, can you keep a secret for a a little while? I promise you won't have to wait long, it's just until after lunch and everything." She said looking at Twilight. Though Twilight only moved to Ponyville a little bit ago, thanks to Pinkie Pie she had made plenty of friends including Cherry. Even if they weren't as close of friends as the other five mares that seemed to always hang around Twilight, she felt confident in telling her secrets to her. But she always made sure they were ones that were only temporary secrets to make sure Twilight didn't feel any kind of pressure from keeping them. "Sure but you know I wasn't trying to pressure you into telling me or anything. In matter of fact I didn't even think you had a secret right now." Twilight said and then blushed a little. "Not that you don't have secrets I mean." "It's fine I knew what you meant, but yeah you know that show mare that showed up in town yesterday?" She asked. "Yeah, the one that talks in third pony and all. Seems to be a bit self absorb and all, why?" Twilight asked raising an eyebrow at the now very obvious nervous mare. "Do you have a crush on her?" "Um, uh, h-how did you know?" She asked blushing. "For one the way you were just talking about the show mare there seemed to be a very excited glint in your eyes, and also you blushed a little when I was talking about her. That and you just confirmed it, also I saw you go to her wagon and talk to her last night." Twilight answered with a smirk. "And knowing you, that usually means that you have a crush on somepony." "Oh, well not always! But yeah I do have a crush on her, in fact me and her might be going out on a date today." She whispered. "Really? So you already asked her out last night?" Twilight asked in a bit of surprise. "Actually no, I was going to ask but she beat me to it." She answered blushing again. "Well i'm glad that you got back into dating again, it's been what? Like a year since your last marefriend?" Twilight asked. "Yeah, but how did you know that?" She asked raising an eyebrow in suspicion. "Well for one I've never seen you on a date, unless you've been dating Tropic. But from what I hear you already did that and that's what made you realize your interest. That and Tropic actually told me." Twilight answered. "He did? Oh he's so dead when I see him again." She mumbled. "So you and Trixie going on a date huh? Never thought you were the type to go for show offs." Twilight said. "She's not a show off, I mean in a way she is. But it's her job to show off what she can do." She replied. "Okay, okay point taken. So after the show, how much did she show off?" Twilight asked again raising her own eyebrow with another smirk. "Look we only talked last night, and she wasn't that much of a show off. In matter of fact I think she just put on an act to most ponies even when she' not performing. But when I talked to her she seemed pretty normal." She answered in a stern tone. "Hmm, are you sure you didn't get an extra show?" Twilight asked her smirk growing as she leaned in over the counter, and Cherry leaning back smiled nervously and blushed. "M-maybe I got a look at her flank without her knowing." She answered averting her eyes. "So you're into flanks huh? Ever taken a look at mine when I wasn't looking?" Twilight asked. "N-no, I only look at the ones I have a crush on." She answered. "S-so um, do you need anything?" "Yeah, I would like to get one of your cherry chocolate pies." Twilight answered after letting out a giggle and moving back. "Okay, well I just made a fresh one so hold on while I get it for you." She said turning around and walking into the kitchen, but she looked back to see Twilight looking at her and blushed. "So you just made a fresh one huh? Sounds good to me." Twilight called from the counter. "Yeah, and here ya go. That'll be three bits please." She said holding out her hoof. "Alright, but I thought it was only two for me?" Twilight asked. "Well normally, but apparently I gave you your own show." She said raising an eyebrow, and Twilight blushed. "Um, yeah I was just uh, thinking and you happened to be in my line of sight when I started to wonder." Twilight said grabbing three bits from her bag. "Right, I guess I should be getting ready for my date. You know you're more than welcome to join us?" She asked. "What, no I was just seeing what Tropic was talking about." Twilight answered. "So what else did he say?" She asked her expression still cheerful but her tone filled with venom. "Well he uh, told me that he always thought that you had um, the nicest plot he ever seen." Twilight said her blush darkening. "Oh well that certainty was sweet of him, i'll have to make sure to thank him later. But you know if you do have crush on me, three ponies in a relationship is actually common." She said smiling. "Y-yeah I know, and no offense. But I don't like you in that way, not that you're not attractive or anything. It's just I don't actually swing that way." Twilight answered as she squirmed. "Fine, but if you change your mind tell us. Also tell Tropic I said hi and he better take care of those wings, or they might come up missing." She said giving Twilight a wink. "B-but how did you..." Twilight was stopped when the door bell rang and Trixie stepped through. "Let's just say he tell's me a few things as well." She said. "Now take your pie, and i'll talk to you and Tropic later." "Okay, bye." Twilight said and nodded when she walked past Trixie. "And what was she doing here? And what were you two talking about, and last who is Tropic?" Trixie asked. "She was just buying a pie, and we were talking about what I was doing for a lunch break today." She smiled at Trixie as she said that. "And Tropic is my best friend, and that was actually his new marefriend." "Oh, I would like to meet this Tropic then if he's your friend. Maybe me and him can also be friends." Trixie smiled back. "Yeah I think you two will get along." She said. "So um, are you, um ready?" Trixie asked after a moment of silence. "Oh, yeah just give me a second to put this apron back into the kitchen." She answered leaving to go back into the door to the kitchen. "Hmm, these pis all look delicious by the way." Trixie called. "Well if you want you can pick one and we'll have it for dessert." She called back and taking another moment in the kitchen to contain her excitement. Though why was she so excited that she showed up for a simple date? "A-are you sure?" Trixie asked. "Yeah, go ahead and pick one." She answered walking out of the kitchen. "Oh, well they all look so good." Trixie said looking at he display case, but then her eyes drifted to Cherry with a light blush on her. "So decided what we're having then?" She asked not exactly knowing where that gaze was actually going. "Oh um yes, I think this one." Trixie said pointing the Berry Banza Cream Pie. "That's a good choice, one of my most expensive and sought after pies." She said taking the pie out. "R-really? Then maybe I should choose another." Trixie said her gaze going back to what it was looking at before. "No it's fine really. Are you okay?" She asked. "Yeah, yeah just fine. So since I don't know this town very well, I hope you have a plan?" Trixie asked looking into her eyes as she did. "Actually I figured, so I already did make a plan. But it's a surprise, come on." She said pulling a basket out from under the counter and putting it one her back. "And what's that for?" Trixie asked though she had a good idea. "Well it's a surprise, come on already I want to get there soon to show you!" She said walking up to the door switching the signs again. "Show me what?" Trixie asked. "You'll see, so you ready?" She asked looking at Trixie with excited eyes that Trixie couldn't help but find completely adorable. As they walked together they started talking more laughing at each other's jokes, even the bad ones. A few starred at the couple but not the bad judging kind of stares, they stared at them with happiness. Especially some of the other couples around town seeing the new couple being so happy, even if this was only the first date. "So wait, he shoved a pie in your face and when he tried to take off you jumped on his back? All the while holding a pie in your hoof that you got from the table and managed to shove it in his face as your revenge even though he was flying?" Trixie asked trying to hold back her laughter. "Yeah not my brightest idea. After I did that Tropic lost control and flew us straight into a tree!" She answered rubbing her head at the memory of being stuck in the tree for a few moments, they literally busted through the tree somehow and took forever to get them out. "Haha, that's so funny. But I hope you didn't hurt yourself or him?" Trixie asked after finishing laughing with a little look of concern. "Nah, we were just fine. Though just a slight headache, though I will say that he might not have those wings for very long." She said. "Right, for what he told that Twilight girl right?" Trixie asked. "Yup, so looks like we're almost there." She said looking ahead of them. "So can you tell me where you're taking us?" Trixie asked again. "Like I said it's a surprise, I want this date to be just perfect." She answered and her eyes widening at what she just said. "I mean unless you don't think of this as a..." "No that's why I asked you out, though I wish I could have chose something for us. But don't worry i'm glad so far that I asked you out on a date, I've been having the time of my life so far. No pony has every treated me as nicely as you do." Trixie said her expression was sad. "Oh and why don't they? I mean you're a very nice mare and all, that and also pretty cute." She said slowing her pace to walk by Trixies side. "Thank you for your complement, you're also cute yourself. But the reason why no pony really treats me nicely is because either they think i'm just a show off with my magic, or if i'm dating somepony they only want one thing. For once I just want to date somepony who wants to take things slow you know?" Trixie asked looking straight into her eyes. "Yeah I know what you mean. In matter of fact that's how I ended up ruining some of my relationships. I didn't realize how fast I was taking things, but I learnt my lesson and promise myself that I wouldn't take things as fast as I did. Because of that you're the first one I've gone out with in a year, and I promise you that if you want things to go slow then I will do everything I can to make sure I don't try to rush things okay?" She asked looking down at the ground, and let out a surprised squeak when she felt a pair of lips on her cheek. "W-what?" "That's for understanding, and thank you." Trixie said looking at the ground blushing. "Oh, um. uh look we're here!" She said trying to take her mind off of what just happened, but she was already lost in her giddiness and thought to herself that she would never wash that cheek again even if things didn't work out. "Wow, this is an amazing view." Trixie said looking out from a hill top that had a single oak tree on top of it. "Yeah, it really is. I found this spot when I was young, always come out here at least once a week to watch the sunset like we're doing right now. As far as I can tell no pony else knows about this spot." She replied looking at the view, though it didn't feel like it they actually been talking for hours, and then she looked over at Trixie who had an awe expression and the suns gleaming lights reflecting from her eyes. "So you come here that often then?" Trixie asked, and then her eyes widened. "Sorry I thought I would pay you back for surprising me." She giggled at the expression Trixie gave her as she rubbed her own hoof on her cheek where she just been kissed. "I-I suppose that's only fair. So what, um did you bring in that basket?" Trixie asked smiling. "Oh, i'm sure you've already guessed that I made us a picnic." She said grabbing a blanket from the basket that was neatly folded and she unfolded it to lay out. "Come on, lay down I promise as long as you don't kiss me anymore than I won't kiss you anymore." "A-alright, so what um, did you make?" Trixie asked. "Well there's that pie you chose, then also some salad and a daffodil and rose lasagna." She said placing each thing out on the blanket. "They look very good, thank you for um, making it." Trixie said putting her hoof onto Cherrys, which made her blush. "So what do you want first?" She asked looking away to the view. "I think I want to try some of that lasagna first." Trixie answered. As they ate they watched the rest of the sunset, both couldn't believe that a lunch date turned into a dinner date. But it was well worth it as they kept stealing glances at each other while they talked. But as the sun kept getting lower the brisk night time autumn air made them shiver, and without realizing it they moved closer to each other for warmth until they were touching. "So, again thank you for the picnic and for being so nice to me." Trixie said. "It's no problem, next time you can do something for the date. Maybe show me some more magic you can do?" She asked nervously. "Yeah, I would love to go on another date with you. And maybe I will show you more of my incredible skills in magic." Trixie said making Cherry blush a little. "Oh I don't mean like that, I just meant.." "Oh just relax, I knew what you meant. But you're cute when you start to panic a little." She let out a giggle. "Well I suppose I have to get back to my wagon." Trixie said after they finished packing. "But that's so far away, how about you sleep over at my house tonight? I have a guest room you can stay in, and it's not that far away." She suggested. "You don't live at your shop like a lot of these ponies do?" Trixie asked. "Nah, I use that space for storage. I live on the outskirts of town, my brother gave me it after he joined the Royal Guard." She answered with a proud smile. "Well I suppose if you're offering, but remember your promise. Don't try anything." Trixie said playfully. "Only in my dreams." She said making Trixie roll her eyes. "You bet your flank only in your dreams." Trixie giggled. As they walked towards her house she couldn't believe things went this smoothly. Not that she would make a move on her of course, she wanted to take things slow as well. But it seems that Trixie is the mare of her dreams and she wanted to do everything in her power to keep her there.
