//------------------------------// // The Sky // Story: The Sky // by EpicAeromancer33 //------------------------------// The Sky I open my eyes; the vibrant luminosity of the afternoon sun nearly blinds me as my pupils apertures adjust so I can clearly the sight that I’m looking at, the open sky. I sit on a self-made cloud. It’s soft; cotton like complexion hides its true nature as just a mass of water droplets, suspended in the beautiful, never-ending sky. It’s the only cloud in the magnificent blue ocean of the sky. I lie down on it, it’s almost weightless texture makes me feel as if I’m going to fall through it, and it’s composition decorates my coat with tiny drops of water that seem to dance in the sun’s rays. My front hooves sink into the cloud as well as my feathery wings. The green earth slowly revolves below me, bit by bit. All the while the ever shining sun is above me, warming the great planet that gave me this magnificent sky that nothing could ever equal. As I close my eyes the sun’s warm light beams on me and I doze off. I wake up and I see that the sun has went away, leaving its brothers and sisters to take center stage and shine in the cool night sky. The night was vastly different than the day, but still just as magnificent and beautiful as its twin. The moon, it’s spotty, alien surface gives off a beautiful contrast of both light and dark as the stars seem to just amplify it’s amazing allurement. I look down at the small town below my cloud. Not a single light was on, reminding me of my sleep. I take one last look up at the night sky’s performers and lay my head back on the cloud; it’s still just as soft and weightless as it was when the heavenly blue sky was out and I know it will still be soft when I wake up and it’s back. I close my eyes and drift back to sleep, the calming breeze blowing my tail and mane. As I awake from my slumber my eyes are still closed. I can still see the brightness of the sun through my eyelids and the warming affection of that wonderful ball of light suspended in the sky. I pick my head up, making sure not to do what I did yesterday and nearly blind myself by looking at the sun. I open my eyes and I notice that my cloud isn’t the only cloud in the sky, that there are other clouds that have come to accompany my fellow cloud in enjoying the ever-lasting sky. I look around and see clouds of all shapes and sizes. It’s just like snowflakes, no two are alike in look but they all still have the same puffy and sublime beauty that’s in every cloud. A light breeze comes and welcomes my face as my mane blows and the clouds seem to dance in the breeze as if it’s the conductor of the sky, willing them to do so. I smile; I’ve been smiling this whole time, it’s impossible for me to frown when I’m bearing witness to such an amazing display of a force of nature. The sky is the most beautiful thing in existence. A shadow flies over me, painting me in a shade of gray and darkness, I look up and see that it’s just a cloud, a lone cloud that has soared higher than its siblings, wishing to feel the sun’s luminous brilliance. As the sun come out from behind the white cloud, I look down and begin to tear up from the bright sun hitting my eyes. The blue sky looks like the moving ocean through my tears. As I wipe away the tears, I stand up; being a weather pony it’s my job to make the sky clear, for the sun to illuminate the ground, and for the beautiful blue sky to show itself to the ponies below. I’ve been assigned to clear up the sky in the Ponyville Sector due to its resident weather pony, Rainbow Dash I think it was, hurting her wing. I spread my wings and jump off my cloud. As I fly my mane and tail dance in the wind and as I fly through a cloud, dissipating it, my coat becomes slightly wet as if the cloud had given me a goodbye hug, but don’t worry cloud, I’m sure I’ll see you again, basking in the sky’s azure beauty and the sun’s radiant glaze. I fly through another one, and another one, and yet still another one, each one wetting my coat as it hugs me goodbye and I promise to meet them again, in the never ending sky. As I finish and I fly back to my cloud, that soft, cotton candy-esque cloud, and sit myself on it. I look out into the distance, the bright and empyreal sky still looming over me just as the sun and its heavenly glow shines on everything it touches. I see the clouds forming over the Everfree Forest and I smile even more, seeing that the clouds that bid me a farewell earlier have returned. I stare at them as a wind blows each of them outwards. One of them changes the top part of itself into what looks like a hoof, waving at me as it flies away. I raise my hoof and wave at it, promising that we’ll meet again. I laugh at myself, I know full well that clouds aren’t sentient yet I’m treating them as if they are. I look down at the small town below me and see various ponies basking in the beauty of the sun and the sky. I spend the rest of my time looking at the sky, almost seeing the curvature of this planet, and going down to get a nice daffodil sandwich from the town. The Sun bids me farewell as Evening comes and the Night shortly after and as the stars and moon shine brightly in the black of the sky I’m happy to be the audience to such wonderful and magnificent beauty. The Sun with its ever glowing luminosity, shining brightly on everything and giving it life, the clouds with their ever loving softness and carefree essence, the stars and The Moon for being the majestic performers of the night, and the sky itself for allowing me to see all of this in its never-ending beauty. I’m happy to be the audience of the sky.
