A tree and her rock.

by Blooy

Bloomberg and Tom: a love story.

A gentle breeze blew through the apple trees of Sweet Apple Acres. The trees made a soft whistling sound, as if the trees were singing joyfully. However, one tree sounded even more joyful than the rest. Her name was Bloomberg. She was an averaged sized tree and produced an average amount of apples. So then, why was her whistle so joyful? Because, unlike the other trees, Bloomberg had love.

Nuzzled up against Bloomberg was Tom the rock. He was a big boulder who had rolled down a nearby hill two months ago. He stopped directly next to Bloomberg and the two became instant friends. After about a month, they decided to take their relationship to the next level and began dating. The two loved each other very, very much. They did everything together. They bathed in the sun together, they gazed at the stars together, they spent every second of every day together.

However, not everypony was happy for the couple. An orange pony with apples on her rump had plans to take Bloomberg away from Tom. She planned to send Bloomberg away to some strange land that was far, far away.

On a bright and shiny day, the pony and her brother came out into the orchard to collect Bloomberg. They positioned themselves on the side of Bloomberg and kicked hard. Bloomberg was resilient though, she would not be taken from her beloved so easily! Again, the pony kicked. And again, Bloomberg held out. But after another few kicks, Bloomberg gave way. She collapsed to the ground, defeated. The two ponies hoisted her up on their backs and began to carry her off.

Tom tried to run after them, to stop them, to make them put her back where she belonged! But he could not, for he was just a boulder and had no legs. They disappeared into the distance with their captive. Tom was crushed. The love of his life had just be stolen away from him and he was helpless to have done anything. He felt like weeping, but again, he was a boulder and could not cry.

The whistling had stopped. The trees no longer sang joyfully, for they were all sad for Tom. After Bloomberg had been taken from him, Tom lost track of reality. Seasons past as he sat there, alone. It wasn't until a bunch of cotton candy clouds appeared that Tom became aware of his surroundings again. There was a flash of lightning and a loud laugh as a figure appeared before Tom. The creature before Tom spoke with a jovial tone in his voice. "Why hello there! I am Discord, god of chaos! Pleasure to meet you!" Discord held out his eagle claw hand to shake hands with Tom. Tom did nothing, for he was still too distraught over the loss of his love. That, and the fact that he was a rock.

Discord withdrew his hand and frowned. "Somepony's rather inhospitable!" Discord announced. He looked Tom up and down and an wicked smile formed on his face. "You've been wronged by ponies haven't you?"

Tom remained silent, but it was all Discord needed to hear. "What if I could help you get back at those nasty ponies for what they did to you?"

Upon hearing this, Tom instantly cheered up. He could finally get Bloomberg back! Discord sensed the sudden uplift in Tom's mood. "I'll take that as a yes!" Discord grabbed Tom and flew up into the sky. Before Tom knew it, they had landed in some kind of hedge maze.

Discord placed Tom down and stood next to him. "Okay, here's what you have to do. A white unicorn is gonna come through here and pick you up and carry you away. You are to do nothing, just go with it. Do this, and I promise you'll get your love back!" He explained.

Tom wondered how Discord had known he had lost his love, it's not like Tom had told him! Still, Tom did not care as long as he got his true love back.

After an hour or so, the unicorn arrived and carried Tom off, just like Discord had said. Many hours passed of him being carried around. He had been carried by a few different ponies and even tossed out a window. But Tom persevered, for he knew he'd see his love again.

Eventually he was carried before Discord and placed on the ground. The ponies who had carried him began to talk to Discord. After a long conversation that Tom did not pay much attention to the conversation. After a few moments he noticed the talking had ended after a bright multicolored light. What he saw terrified him. There stood Discord, a stone statue. Tom couldn't believe it, now he'd never see his beloved Bloomberg again!

Tom was carried off to a rock farm outside of Ponyville. Here he spent nine long months before the owners of the farm came and started pushing him off somewhere. Tom thought they were just moving him to another area of the farm, but there was more too it than that.

He was placed down in an area that was cleared away of other rocks. Tom wondered why this place was so clean compared to the rest of the place. He soon knew the answer. A large hammer came down on Tom, making a large crack in him. It was incredibly painful. If Tom had a mouth, he'd have screamed so loud that ponies in Saddle Arabia would have heard him! The hammer came down again, breaking a huge chunk off of Tom.

The hammer kept swinging and swinging, until Tom was but a pile of pebbles. His remains were swept away to make room for other rocks to be destroyed. Tom's last thought before he died were of Bloomberg. Of her bright green leaves, of the lovely whistle she made when the wind blew and of all the joy they had shared together. He desperately wanted to see her one last time before death, but he would never be granted this wish and he died alone and depressed.
