Sunset's Beauty: A Hearths Warming Eve Tale

by D0CT0RWHOOVES

Gifts Best Given

Today was Hearth’s Warming Eve; this had always been Sunset’s favorite Holiday. She always liked to pony watch. Seeing everypony walking to and fro, shopping for the ones she cared about. Even when she was malicious she had toned it down at this time of the year. This year was the best, she had someone she loved to shop for, Spike. This was the first Hearth’s Warming Day they would have together. They had been dating for about three months now, but it felt as if it had been much longer. But not in a bad way, in the best way. She loved every moment she had spent with Spike. Today she was going to go and get him the best present she could get him. She earned her bits helping out at the library thanks to Twilight. It wasn’t the best paying job, but she doesn’t pay taxes or rent so she never really spent money. She far Sunset had managed to save 400 bits. She planned on spending most if not all of it today.

Sunset walked down the streets of Ponyville all bundled up in winter clothes that were gifts of Rarity’s. She didn't have much of an idea of what to get him. She went over what he liked in her head. “Let’s see, he likes gems, aprons, cooking, fine art….” The list went on.  She didn't have an idea. Sunset decided to check in with the local gem cutters to see if they had anything. She looked around and something caught her eye; A good sized diamond. It had a sign next to it that said if purchased, you could have it cut in any which way you liked at no extra charge. This started to give her ideas. She checked to price and saw it to be 350 bits. The first thought was that it was overpriced, then remembered it was a diamond. You don’t see them very often unless you were a very experienced gem hunter. She decided to keep that idea in mind and look around the markets more.

She saw a jewelry stall and decided “Why not?”. She walked over and noticed a very nice chain; it was actually the most beautiful one at the stall. She checked to see what it was, it was actually platinum! Now that was rare. She checked and saw it to be on sale for 45. Now she began to think. She was no jeweler, but she had seen some spell books at the library on such spells. She never bothered but now she was thinking. What if she bought the diamond and had it cut and made a really nice necklace. He would like it and it would have a personal touch. That was it!

“Excuse me, sir?” Sunset called to the clerk.

“Yes?” The clerk replied.

“I would like to purchase the Platinum chain please.” Sunset requested.

“Sure thing, that will be 35 bits.” The clerk said gathering the chain.

Sunset took out the required amount of bits and placed them on the counter.

“Thank you miss, have a great day.” Said the clerk.

“You too.” Sunset said absentmindedly, gathering the chain.

Sunset them began to scurry back to the gem stand. This was going to be perfect she thought. When she reached it she immediately walked up to the clerk.

“Hello, I would like to buy the diamond over there.” Sunset said gesturing.

“Absolutely, that will be 350 bits please” The clerk says getting said gem.

Sunset then gathers the bits and floats them over.

“Thank you, would you like it cut?” The clerk asks.

“Yes, I would like a medium sized hearth with Sunset and Spike written on it and the rest cut into small diamond cuts.” Sunset replied.

“Sure thing, I will be just a moment.” The clerk said begging her work.

A moment turned out to be an hour. But when she received it, it was so perfectly done that all the other gems would be jealous. She packed it away with the chain and headed to Rarity’s. She didn’t want Spike seeing it after all. She took her time as she wanted to watch the snowfall; it was a very beautiful day. She soon arrived at the boutique and knocked.

“Come in!” She heard Rarity call.

Sunset walked into the Boutique to see it in a mess. There were many finished dresses and material strewn about.

“Oh Sunset darling, it’s good to see you. May I ask why you’re here? Rarity asked.

“I’m going to make a necklace for Spike but I didn't want him to see it, so I was hoping I could do so here.” Sunset answered.

“Of course, with what exactly?” Rarity inquired.

“These.” Sunset said showing her the items.

“Those are magnificent dear. Oh do you wish to borrow my jewelry making book?” Rarity asked.

“You have one?” Sunset asked.

“But of course!” Rarity replied floating it over.

“Well thanks, saves me a trip” Sunset said taking the book.

“Well have fun, If you need me just call.” Rarity said going back to her work.

Sunset walked over to a chair and began to read. It was actually a complex spell. Well within her skill but regardless, it would be harder for somepony like Rarity who didn't specialize in magic. She memorized the spell within 30 minutes. After that she set to work. It was boring but new so she stayed focused. She had the necklace done in a few hours. The result was one of the most beautiful pieces of Jewelry she had ever seen. He was going to love it. Best of all, it was personal and unique. She packed everything up and walked over to Rarity.

“Yes dear? Oh did you finish?” Rarity inquired.

Sunset nodded.

“Oh I must see.” Rarity said.

Sunset smiled and showed her. Sunset did not know a pony could drop their jaw that far.

“I-It’s Beautiful! I have never seen anything like it! I am positive Spike will love it!” Rarity exclaimed.

“Thanks, hey do you think you could wrap it so it doesn’t look like a necklace?” Sunset asked.

“Of course.” Rarity said taking the necklace and began to wrap it.

While she waited Sunset looked around. There were a lot of dresses, but she saw one thing that wasn't. It was black lingerie. Sunset thought of another idea for a second gift for Spike.

“Hey Rarity?” Sunset called.

“Yes darling?” Rarity answered.

“How much for the lingerie?” Sunset asked.

“15 bits, why?” Rarity asked.

Sunset arrived back at the Library with the two gifts for Spike. One she placed under the tree and the other up in her room.

Hearth’s Warming Day

Sunset awoke to the feeling of something or somedragon moving next to her. Sunset looked down and saw Spike waking up. Sunset smiled at her dragonfriend being the first thing she saw on Hearth’s Warming Day.

“Hey honey.” Sunset said kissing him on the forehead.

“Mmm morning sweetie. Spike said in a sleepy tone.

Sunset just felt happy. It was these moments she cherished. She put her legs around him and hugged him. Spike then reciprocated the action.

“Merry Hearth’s Warming Day.” Sunset said.

“You too.” Spike said then kissed her.

They lay there for a while until it was decided that they would get up. They walked downstairs to see Twilight already up.

“Good Morning, sleep well?” Twilight asked the couple.

“Yes.” They answered together.

“That’s good, so do you too want to start opening gifts now or later?” Twilight asked knowing the answer.

“Now!” Spike answered with the enthusiasm of an eight year old.

“I swear sometimes I think I’m dating a five year old.” Sunset said in a joking tone.
Spike blushed, but still moved towards the presents. He picks one up and walks over to Sunset.

“Here, I want you to open mine first!” Spike said with joy.

Sunset blushed heavily but still took the gift. She began to open it. Inside were a pair of really nice socks and a cute hat. Something seemed unique or personal about them, like she had seen something like them before.

“I made them for you; I’ve been working on them for a month now.” Spike said gleaming up at Sunset.

Sunset loved the socks and hat much more now. She immediately kissed Spike.

“I love them and I love you.” Sunset said in a very loving and joyous tone.

“Aww thanks.” Spike said.

Sunset put them on. They were really comfortable. And it made her feel happy to be wearing something Spike made. She gave him another kiss and a big hug.

“Ahem, you're not exactly alone.” Twilight said in a sarcastic tone.

The couple blushed but didn’t move apart. They looked at each other and decided to give Twilight her gift.

“Twilight we both chipped in for your gift.” Sunset said as Spike gathered the gift.

“Okay, here you are Twi.” Spike said giving her the present.

“Thanks guys, really.” Twilight said warmly opening her gift.

When she saw its contents, she nearly had a heart attack.

“Like it?” Sunset asked knowing the answer.

“I love it! I can’t believe it! Starswirl the Bearded’s book on light and dark magic! There are only
three of these!” Twilight said with great joy.

Twilight grabbed the two in a big hug.

“I have to go read this, like now!” Twilight said and scurried off.

The couple smiled, but Sunset had a gift for Spike.

“Spike, I’d like to give you your gift.” Sunset said, levitating it over.

“Aww, you didn’t have to get me anything, you being here is enough.” Spike said lovingly.
In Sunset’s mind, she decided Spike was definitely getting his other gift.

“I wanted too.” Sunset said giving it to him.

“Thanks, I love you.”

“I love you too.” Sunset replied.

Spike then opened the gift. When he saw the gift he got the most joyful look ever.

“I made it for you” Sunset said in a low but loving tone.
Spike couldn’t form any words. To say he loved his gift would be an understatement. All he did was walk up to his marefriend and give her a big kiss and hug.

“I love it, but nowhere near as much as I love you.” Spike said.

The rest of the day was spent together. They played games and told stories together. It was an all-around perfect day. Spike prepared a perfect meal for dinner. Soon after, Twilight went to bed the couple began to walk to their room. Sunset stopped outside the door.

“Hey Spike, I have one more gift to give you, wait here while I get it ready.” Sunset said in a sultry tone.

“Alright.” Spike replied.

Sunset went in and changed into her new “outfit.” She called for Spike to come in. The gift took a few hours to give but both were happy it was given. The only one who wasn’t happy was Twilight in the room over, who had unfortunately heard everything. She would never be able to look at those two the same after that night.
