//------------------------------// // Being There for Her // Story: Being There for Her // by BiriSpark //------------------------------// The loud sound of Twilight's hectic hoofsteps filled the library as the nervous purple pony filled her saddlebags with a wide array of supplies. She tossed in the few carrots before trying her hardest to close the bag. It wasn't an easy task as they were overflowing and looked about ready to burst at any moment. “You know Fluttershy probably has most of that stuff at her cottage right?” remarked Spike at the sight of his friend putting on quite the show in front of him sitting calmly on the stair's railing. “I know Spike. I just have to make sure I have everything in case on the off chance I'll need it to take care of all her animals,” she hastily responds, “This has to go perfectly! I want to leave the best impression I possibly can.” Spike gives her a relaxing smile, one that he hoped would maybe put Twilight at ease. “Ah you worry too much. I'm sure things will go perfectly.” He hops off the railing and helps Twilight close her bulging bag before setting it on to her back. He probably should have put it on more gently as the look on Twilight's face told him it probably wasn't very light. Twilight's mind was full of worry and anticipation of the task she had to do. Twilight was going to house sit for Fluttershy on her trip to the spa and a luxurious hotel to stay the night at. Twilight insisted that Fluttershy take this much needed vacation and that she would pay for everything and take care of her cottage and animals while she was gone. Fluttershy was uneasy leaving her animal friends behind, but she trusted Twilight enough to agree to the trip. All this effort was for a good cause in Twilight's mind. It was all to show how much she cared for her and how Fluttershy could put her trust into Twilight for anything. Twilight wanted that burden, she wanted Fluttershy to ask her for help. She wanted to be there for her no matter what. She wanted Fluttershy to see somepony she could count on, because in the end she wanted Fluttershy to know her true feelings. Twilight saw something beautiful in the sweet, butter colored pony. The soft, gentle spirit behind those sparkling blue eyes was like something out of a dream. Every time she's around her she can't explain why, but her heart tells her to do everything for her. She wants to hold her when she gets scared. She wants to comfort her when she's sad. And most of all, she wants to smile and laugh with her when she's happy. After all this time getting to know her over the years, Twilight can definitely say she wants to go one step further with her. It might be difficult getting her to open up, so Twilight wants to make this easy. Once Fluttershy trusts her to the point where she can confide in her with anything, then... then she will confess to her all these feelings. Twilight was almost out the door, ready to show the one she loves how useful she can be. A small smirk finally emerged on her stressed looking face. She knew she could do it. Spike was right, everything would go perfect. Her confidence made her body feel light as a feather, even with the saddlebags weighing her down. “Wish me luck Spike.” She turned to him at the door showing off her glowing confidence. “I'm sure she'll think you're the greatest for doing all this.” Spike assures her with one more encouraging nod. Twilight heads off down the trail as Spike looks at her, hopeful for her to win over Fluttershy in the end. Spike was never told about Twilight's true feelings for Fluttershy, but he could tell. The way she obsessed over her for a couple of weeks now reminded him of himself in a way. He pulled out a picture of Rarity from one of her fashion shows and held it next to his heart. The door to Fluttershy's cottage always seemed to find a way to cause that light feeling inside Twilight. She wasn't scared of knocking at the door, she just always had to prepare herself for seeing her beautiful face again. It was enough to take her breath away. She could hear a soft muffled voice inside. Knowing who that belonged to made the acting of knocking even more tense. She took a deep breath, regained her composure and firmly knocked against the hard wood of the door. The door opened in a very gentle way. it seemed most of Fluttershy's actions had grace to them, even the simple ones like opening a door. She seemed packed up already, her bags were much more clean and organized looking. They even had a floral pattern across the flap and a nature green color to them, very fitting for Fluttershy.  Her hair had a wonderful silk like softness to it and the sun gave the cherry blossom pink color a gorgeous sheen. Twilight would be lying if she said she didn't want to feel it. “Twilight you're a little earlier than you said you'd be.” Fluttershy said sort of bluntly before her face changed to one of embarrassment. “O-Oh my... I'm sorry. T-that was such a rude way to greet you. Umm, I-I meant...” Twilight giggled “It's alright Fluttershy. I am a little early. Sorry if that messed anything up.” Twilight was use to this sort of unnecessary apology thing with Fluttershy. Some ponies with less patience like Rainbow Dash can't stand it and for Twilight it sometimes gets a little obnoxious. But most of the time Twilight thought it was adorable and it always gave her an urge to just jump on her and cuddle her. “No, no! It didn't mess anything up for me. I was just sort of, you know, stating a fact... I guess.” Fluttershy moved her head to the side like she was trying to hide behind her hair hanging in front of her eyes. It always seemed like she did that in some attempt to stop any rude behavior she might create. Twilight touched her shoulder “ I understand what you meant Fluttershy. Let's just get straight to the matter. You need to be getting excited for your trip!” Twilight said in an upbeat way to raise her excitement. Fluttershy looked up again, her eyes regained some self confidence again. “Twilight, this is so nice of you to do for me. I feel a little bad accepting all this from you though. And isn't this taking time out of your busy schedule... Oooh...Maybe I shouldn't go.” She was starting to look at the ground again. “Spike has everything covered for the day. I know Spike can handle himself alone. And don't be worried about taking this trip. I don't need you to pay me back or anything. This is all for you.” Twilight pauses in search of more reassuring words. “I want to do this for you.” She gently brushes the hair from Fluttershy's face exposing her to Twilight's glowing expression. Fluttershy looks at her in silent thought for a moment. The way Twilight words resonated from her heart, the way she moved her hair. Fluttershy's mind was racing around all these positive thoughts of what it could all mean. Fluttershy thought that maybe she was thinking too deep into this. Twilight's just trying to be friendly, that's all. “W-well,” she hesitated again, “I guess I'm okay with this. As long as you are.” She walked outside and looked at the trail before turning around to face Twilight. “Y-you sure you don't need me to explain anything before I go?” “I got it Fluttershy. Trust me, I've read up on my animal care. You're good to enjoy yourself and have a great time at that spa” Twilight gave Fluttershy a quick hug. It gave her an excuse to feel that soft hair on her cheek. “I'll bet you'll have a blast there.” Fluttershy gave her a confident smile for once today. “A-alright, thank you so very, very much for this. It means a lot that you'd go out of you way for me like this.” Fluttershy's eyes darted around nervously as her body moved forward a bit. She wanted another hug, the last one was just too fast. Fluttershy gave her a longer embrace this time holding her more tightly. Twilight reciprocated and hugged her with an equal amount of energy. Fluttershy and Twilight parted and Fluttershy started down the dark brown dirt trail. She kept the smile from earlier on her face. It was funny how it wouldn't go away, it would only get wider the more she thought about it. The trip to the spa was going to be filled with these thoughts. These never ending thoughts about Twilight. All the animal care went smoothly as Twilight expected. From feeding them their special foods, washing the animals that were particularly dirty, and just making sure the animals get the attention they expect from Fluttershy. Twilight felt a little exhausted though. The amount of animals Fluttershy had took most of the day to attend too. How did that pony have enough time to be with her friends too? The good news was that Twilight could finally relax and rest her sore hooves. Twilight sprawled out on the light brown linen couch. The feeling of laying down was so much better after a hard days work. Twilight could barely keep her eyes open as she lay on what felt to her like a cloud. “I can't imagine what a real one feels like.” Twilight mumbled to herself as she caressed the throw pillow next to her face. “Maybe...” a yawn escaped her mouth. “Maybe Fluttershy could tell me... tell me what... cloud...” And like that Twilight drifted off in an awkward position with her mane frizzed and sticking out. Twilight was awoken to the sound of the door closing and a yellow blurred figure making what sounded like sobbing sounds. It approached her and shook her shoulder with weak strength. “ Get up, please,” Fluttershy requested in the most passive sounding way. “You don't have to be here anymore. I came back.” Fluttershy sniffed and rubbed her eyes as Twilight came out of her sleepy daze. “W-what? “ Twilight looked around seeing that it was still the same day, albeit pretty late at night. “Why did you come back? Did something happen?” Twilight looked at her now being able to see clearly as she leaned up on the couch. Fluttershy had just got done crying from the looks of it. Her eyes were red and swollen looking still pretty moist with tears. “Nothing happened Twilight. I just... I couldn't accept your gift.” Fluttershy started explaining sadly. “I wanted to go I really did.” Tears stated to well up under her eyes. “Forgive me Twilight. I didn't want to waste your money and time like this.” Her breathing stared to get louder as that familiar sobbing sound started up again. “Fluttershy, it's alright.” Twilight said trying to console her. “I don't think you're ungrateful at all. I'm sure you have your reasons for deciding not to go.” “I do... have a reason. B-but...” Fluttershy's legs started to shake. She teetered back and forth having a hard time facing Twilight's eyes. “I-i-it's nothing! I just... can't accept gifts.” Her averting eyes showed a different reason lay inside her. Twilight would have asked if she didn't dart off to her bed room closing the door behind her. Twilight felt a horrible sinking feeling inside her as she saw her favorite pony in the whole world flee in tears from her. Was Twilight not special enough for her? Was she not willing to accept a gift from somepony that she didn't care that much for. Twilight felt her heart sink even more with these morose thoughts. Twilight couldn't help her feelings, they needed to be let loose. She wasn't going to let it end like this. She ran to the door, she needed to tell her. She needed to get this off her chest. “Fluttershy!” Twilight shouted behind the door. “Fluttershy! I swear I'm not mad at you. Please, don't let this get to you so much.” Twilight needed to think her words carefully. “I just wanted you to enjoy yourself, all this was for your happiness.” Twilight heard nothing as she continued to find a way to get to Fluttershy. Her voice started to crack as she felt like crying now. Maybe her words wouldn't get to her. “If you don't want to go, you don't have to go. You have a choice in the matter, I know that.” Twilight didn't know what else to say to make her feel better. “Fluttershy... Please talk to me.” Twilight started to sound desperate. “I don't want to be this pony you feel you can't see anymore due to shame. I want to be there for you. I want you to be with me. I couldn't be without you.” Twilight's cheeks grew warm with tears thinking of life without Fluttershy. Before Twilight's could moisten her now dark purple cheeks with more tears, Fluttershy creeked open her door. Her cute little round nose poked out and her eyes looked into Twilight's. Fluttershy looked a little more level headed now as she began to speak. “I told you I wanted to go Twilight.” “Then why did you not go?” Twilight shakily said as she wiped her tears trying to regain composure. “Because... I-it wouldn't be any fun without y-you.” Fluttershy confessed with her cheeks becoming bright red. Twilight's visage turned to one of elated shock in a few moments after hearing Fluttershy say her reason. “Y-you wanted to go with me?” “Yes... I would be so delighted if you said you wanted to come. It would make me the happiest pony in the world if you asked me to come.” Fluttershy gave a quaint smile. “But I know you just wanted to do this because you're being friendly. Not... the other reason...” Fluttershy trailed off not being able to say this part. But Twilight was more than happy to put the pieces of this puzzle together. “You mean because you love me?” Twilight said with her enthusiasm back. She sniffed and gave a relieved smile to Fluttershy's shocked face. “Y-y... yes.” Fluttershy looked at the ground for a moment before revisiting Twilight's compassionate gaze. Twilight's smile was contagious as Fluttershy couldn't help but give her own tender smile back. “Yes Twilight. That's exactly what I meant.” Twilight laughed as she couldn't believe that things turned out to work perfectly for her. “I'm so glad to hear that. Because to be honest I wanted to tell y-” She was cut off by Fluttershy's warm, pillow soft lips. Twilight's heart raced so fast in that moment she felt like it would burst out of her chest. Fluttershy came slowly off Twilight's lips, staying only inches away from them in case they needed to meet again. “I'm sorry,” Fluttershy started apologizing. “Was that too soon? Should I have wait-” It was Twilight's turn to cut her off with another passionate kiss. Twilight was a bit more rough though as she pressed in with her hoof holding the back of Fluttershy's head. Twilight held the kiss for a long time, she couldn't stop. Fluttershy didn't seem to mind. She gave a small moan as Twilight moved her lips in deeper, holding her closer. The lips parted and the both of them shared the same soft smile. “You know,” Twilight started in a hushed tone. “I can get myself a spot at the spa and hotel tomorrow. Then we can make it a date. What do you say?” Twilight bushed that pink mane with no feeling of uneasiness now out of Fluttershy's eyes. “That sound's perfect.” Fluttershy cooed to Twilight giving her blushed cheeks a wet kiss.
