//------------------------------// // Thankful // Story: The Past of a Shy Mare // by Songbrony //------------------------------// I woke up to Rainbow Dash playing with my mane. We still had our dresses from yesterday on and they had become wrinkled. She didn't know that I was awake, so I let her mess around with my mane for a little longer. I enjoyed the feeling of her that close to me. It made my heart flutter and my skin tingle. I slowly shifted and opened my eyes. She stopped and smiled at me. I didn't realize just how close our faces were and I suddenly grew worried. I pulled back and felt my face grew red. "Oh my..." I started to release my grip on her, but she pulled me tighter and closer. "Hey, um...I'm sorry about the dresses." Rainbow said to me. "Oh, don't worry about it. In the end, everything seemed to work out fine." I said. I stared into her big purple eyes. My heart raced. We were so close that I could feel her breath against my face. She drew her face closer, her eyes shifting towards my mouth. "Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy! It's time for breakfast." Felix called at the door. We quickly let go of each other and got off the bed. "Alright!" Rainbow called down to him. My face was red. My heart was beating at a million times a second with how close we were. I looked to her and her face was a s red as a tomato. We were so close. Did she want to... I let the thought run off and took my dress off and followed her downstairs. "Morning you two!" Felix said as he placed a plate on the table. "You two ready for the day?" "What's today?" I asked. "Thanksgiving! Really? You forgot about that?" he asked. "Oh! That's right! Sorry, so much has been going on that I guess it went over my head." I replied. "Well take a seat! It's time for a family meal." he said. I took a seat next to Rainbow Dash and moved my seat closer to her. "What's this all about, Felix?" Rainbow asked. "You don't really cook." "So I know I'm not here too often anymore, but I have the day off, so I decided to cook a Thanksgiving meal for you both." he said, placing another plate on the table. "But you can't cook. Can you?" she asked. "Well...I'm able to cook some things. I've been working all night preparing it. "Aw you're working over a hot stove preparing for us? Just like a mom." Rainbow said with a smile. "Watch it Rainbow. You may be faster than me, but who holds the job here?" he asked. "Both of us." she replied brashly. I chuckled. It was funny to watch them bicker back and forth in good fun. It made me wish that I had a sibling that I could joke around with like that. Of course, it's probably better that I didn't. My parents weren't the best of role models. "Well, dig in. I made this meal and I don't want it going to waste." he said as he went back to the kitchen. The table was decorated with an assortment of dishes. "Did he really do all this?" I asked. "It looks like it. I'm impressed. Well, let's eat. I'm starving." she said. "Ow!" Felix exclaimed as something clanged on the floor. We turned and looked to him. "Forget that the oven heated things up?" Rainbow asked. "No! I just forgot to grab a mouth guard." he said, tapping his toungue with his hoof. He ditched the cupcakes that he had burnt in the oven and took a seat across from Rainbow. We sat, laughed, and ate all the food on the table. It was fun. I never had this much fun at home. Usually my parents said that they were thankful for alcohol or other things that made my life miserable. But this was the first time I actually had fun at this time of year. "Okay. It's time for us to bring the tradition back!" Felix exclaimed after wiping his mouth. "What tradition?" I asked. "Every year after we stuff our faces, our family always says what we are thankful for this year." Rainbow explained. "And since Felix brought it up, I think he should be the one to start." "Alright." he said, leaning back in his chair. "Well, first off, I'm thankful for my job. Without it I wouldn't be able to pay much of the bills. Second, and most importantly, I'm thankful for you Rainbow Dash. You're my sister. And no matter how brash and hard headed you are, I'll always care for you and be here for you." he said. She smiled. "Same to you. I'm thankful for my wings. Fastest flier in Equestria right here at this table. Someday I'll be a part of the Wonderbolts." she said. "Anything else?" Felix asked. "Oh fine. I guess I'm thankful for you too Felix." she said, smiling. They both looked to me. "Oh. I guess it's my turn." What am I thankful for? There really isn't much in my life that's made me thankful. I thought. I looked to Rainbow and saw her messy yet pretty mane. "Well...I guess I'm thankful for you two. After what happened with my parents, you both were willing to take me in. You've taken care of me and even let me stay here long after what happened." I said. "Aw, come on. It was nothing! You were already family to begin with." Rainbow said. "True. But I never really felt that at my house. Nopony there loved me." I said, sadly. There was an awkward silence at the table. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said anything." "No, no. It's fine." Felix said. "We're thankful that you're safe and that you're with us. Like Rainbow said, you are family. Ohana. Nopony get's left behind." "Yeah. Besides, did you really think we would have left you out on the street after what happened?" Rainbow asked, putting her hoof on mine. I looked down. "Any other pony would have." I said quietly. "I wasn't really well liked among the other's at flight school. You were the only one who cared for me." She pulled me into a tight hug and gave my neck a light kiss. "I never would have let that happen." she whispered in my ear. I cried, knowing that it was true, but believing that if it weren't for her I'd be left alone. I stopped crying though. I didn't want her to think that was all I did. I had been crying too much in front of her. I wanted to be more like her. Tough, strong, independent. "We'd never leave you hanging, Fluttershy." Rainbow reassured me. I pulled out of the hug first and smiled at her. "Thank you." "Well, how about we all go bowling? I think we deserve it." Felix said, trying to lighten up the mood. I was glad he did. It was Thanksgiving and I didn't want to feel upset on this day. "I think that's a good idea." I said. "Well, alright. But I'll let you two know I'm a pretty decent bowler." Rainbow bragged. "You haven't bowled in four years." Felix added. "I'm still pretty decent." she replied. Felix and I laughed as we all walked out of the house.
