When They Were Young: Luna and Celestia's Memories

by InvaderSplorch

Tag!

Luna and Celestia were enjoying lunch together one fine day, talking about what royal duties each one was supposed to attend. They were enjoying a nice salad at Cafe de Leu, a fancy French cafe notoriously known for its salads and sandwiches. Luna proposed that they split the events they have to attend, thus minimizing favoritism and making easier to track which ones thy had to go to. Both Princess Luna and Celestia nodded in agreement as Celestia came up with a proposal.

"Dearest sister, would you like to wager on something?" asked Celestia as she sipped her tea.

"What are you up to?" asked Luna with a raised eyebrow.

"Well, let's do a game we haven't played in a while. Let's play tag," Celestia suggested.

"Tag?" Luna replied. "The last time we played that we were foals, Celestia."

"And yet you never won. Hmmm, pity," Celestia said with a smirk on her face.

"The wager?" inquired Luna.

Sucker thought Celestia. "Whoever loses has to dye their mane the color of the winning counterpart."

"So if I win, your mane is purple, and if you win-"

"Your mane is my color," stated Celestia as she calmly took another sip of her tea.

"Deal," replied Luna as her horn glowed purple.

"Whoever is it when I raise the sun tomorrow shall be victorious," Celestia added, her horn glowing yellow.

Their two horns touched, signaling the beginning of the challenge.

When Woona and Tia used to play tag, Tia would always win. Woona always had a hard time of catching up to her sister, whether physically or magically. Woona was always one hoof out of reach of tagging her sister, deeming her to be it.
One day, Woona decided that she would be better at the game, thus enhancing her chances of success.

When both sisters decided to play tag, Tia was "it" first, since she always won. Tia counted to thirty as Woona ran around the house, trying to find a good place for hiding. She found one upstairs in their parent's bedroom, a place where Tia would never look. It also had a quick escape to the basement, a single clothes shoot extending from the wall. Woona ran upstairs to their parents room and camped underneath the bed, keeping a firm eye on the hallway and on the clothes shoot. It was her luck today as the shoot still remained open.

Woona heard Tia running around downstairs trying to find her. Woona knew this wasn't hide and seek, but with hide and seek tied into the game of tag, she knew her chances of winning were staggering. Tia continued to search downstairs as Woona wiggled her legs so they wouldn't fall asleep. Woona could hear little blurbs of groans of frustration from downstairs. Woona giggled at the delight of torment that her sister was going through.

"Woooonnaaa!!! This isn't hide and seek! It's tag! Come out, now, and I'll go easy on you. If you don't, then I'll start being serious," threatened Tia, her voice echoing off the walls.

Woona merely laughed a this and scoffed, knowing that this was a ploy for her to come out. Woona rooted herself underneath the bed as she saw Tia walk upstairs. Tia went into their room and disappeared from sight.

"Heeeerre's Tia," Tia yelled from their room. Woona giggled at how much of a fool Tia was making of herself. "Woona! Where are you! I will find you, dear sister! The sun shall reveal all, even the darkest corners of the moon!" Tia bellowed from the pit of her stomach.

"Yeah, that line's not getting old," Woona replied, rolling her eyes.

"Ohhhh, you're in our parent's room, aren't ya? Woona, if you don't leave, I'll tell mom and daaaadd!" Tia announced as she sing-songed the last few words.

She just wants to know where you're hiding, so don't say anything Woona thought to herself.

"When they come home, I'll tell them about how you messed up their room and trampled over everything! I'll tell them that you didn't listen to your big sister," Tia announced as Woona's face tightened in anger and frustration. "I bet they'll give you no dessert. I...bet....they'll.....give...me....all...of...your....MOON PIES!"

"NOT MY MOON PIES!" Woona yelled out as she hit her head on the bed frame. "Owie," she muttered.

"GOTCHA!" Tia yelled as she charged towards Woona's location.

Woona crawled out underneath the bed and jumped on top as Tia stared at her from the hallway.

"Looks like you're gonna be it," Tia said grinning widely.

"And it looks like you're going to lose, Tia. Come and get me, Sun butt!" Woona said as she wiggled her small flank back and forth.

Tia's face grew a light shade of red as she turned her head away. "Woona, you know how I feel when you do that," scolded Tia.

"Then, this victory is mine!" Woona cheered as she jumped off the bed and aimed her body towards the clothes shoot.

"Woona, no, you'll get hurt!" shouted Tia as a loud squeal of terror echoed throughout the chute.

"Woona, my dear sister! Are you all right?" Tia shouted through the chute.

"Yeah, I'm fine. This pile of blankets and comforters cushioned my fall. But I'm still gonna win!" yelled Woona from the basement up through the chute.

Tia merely groaned and shrugged her shoulders as she went back downstairs and sat in the family room. She turned on the television and began to watch a debate between the pegasi and the earth ponies about what time of the year would be perfect to bring snow in for the winter. Tia continued to watch the debate as she heard a jiggle of the handle near the basement stairs. Tia calmly walked over and used her magic to counteract the turning of the handle. This was now a fight to the finish, where each sister was using their own magical abilities to either open or close the door.

Tia was using her magic to keep the door closed, but decided to have some fun with the process in the meantime. She knew Woona couldn't use magic for long, so she decided to toy with her sister instead. This was by far Tia's favorite game to play.

"And in the red corner, the Goddess of the Sun, you're favorite ruler of Equestria, Tia!!! And in the blue corner, the ruler of the night, the only pony to fill you with fright, Woona! The crowd boos Woona and praises Tia for all of her hard work!" boasted Tia.

"Nuh, uh! The crowd says you're a stink head and that Woona is the cutest!" retorted Woona.

"Well the crowd....ghhhh...thinks that you smell..ggghhh... and that I am the most intelligent," Tia boasted again, her magic straining on keeping the door closed.

"Well...nngghh...the crowd....and...the chicken...." Woona sputtered, the door handle slowly ceasing to move.

Tia knew she had won yet another moral victory, this time in the form of magical talent. Tia smiled as the second victory was close at hoof. Tia flung the door open, surprising Woona in the process. Tia simply poked Woona on the nose with her front hoof saying, "Tag, you're it," then immediately slammed the door on her younger sister. Woona banged on the door and tried to open it, but to no avail. Woona had exhausted all of her magic, while Tia just held the door closed with her magic, chuckling the entire time while doing so.

After a couple of hours had passed, there was no sound coming from the door. Tia opened it and saw her younger sister, Woona, fast asleep on the basement steps. Tia smiled sweetly and used her levitation magic to carefully pick Woona up without waking her. She carried Woona back to her crescent shaped bed and tactfully tucked in her in. Woona sighed deeply inside of her bed as Tia gave her younger sister a peck on the cheek.

"Well, since you're asleep," Tia chuckled while she dug through her drawers. Tia found a black sharpie and giggled as she wrote Tia is #1 on Woona's right flank.

In the present day, Princess Luna was thinking of this past event in her head, wondering how she couldn't open the door with her magic. Princess Celestia was next to her sister in the drying chair as she was reading Ponyville Homes: Vinyl Scratch edition. Both sisters were in the spa, getting their mane and nails done.

"Eldest sister," Luna said, "How did you manage to win that one game of tag when I was using the hide and seek method? I mean, you did poke me, so technically you won, but what did you write on my flank? Dad thought it was funny, while mom just frowned and washed it off for me."

"Oh, that? Well, I just waited for you to get tired," Celestia responded while still reading the magazine. "After you fell asleep, I carried you up to your room and claimed my victory. As far as what I wrote, it was the truth."

Luna merely sighed at this statement as her dryer stopped, deciding it wasn't worth the effort to question her sister any further. Luna removed the dryer from her head and stood up, her mane flowing freely and majestically. Luna scowled as Celestia stared at her and gave her a big smile.

"That celestial mane looks lovely on you, sister," Celestia said as she giggled softly.

The other spa ponies also chuckled, knowing full well that Celestia had won the bet.

"Remember, Luna, today you have to visit Ponyville and address the townsfolk of the upcoming party," Celestia stated loudly. "And please, do sound sincere about the party, even though you disappear as soon as it starts."

"Yes, dear sister, I shall do my best. Please enjoy yourself, Celestia, as I shall now take my leave," Luna said, her colorful celestial mane bouncing along as she walked away.
