When They Were Young: Luna and Celestia's Memories

Woona and the Banana

Princess Woona woke up in her crescent mood bed as she yawned and softly kicked her small, daintily legs. Her vision was still hazy as she yawned a second time before crawling out of her bed. She stretched her limbs and glanced over at her older sister, Tia, still asleep in her sun themed bed. Woona smiled happily as she felt a familiar feeling well up within her. Gurgle....gurgle...gurgle came the loud, ear piercing sound in her stomach, or so she felt it was.

"Owie, Woona needs food," she lightly said to herself as she ventured to the kitchen.

Woona slowly took a couple of steps towards the kitchen as the stomach cramps still persisted within her belly. Eventually, the noises and gurgles subsided as she left her bedroom. She went around the corner of her bedroom and embarked down the flight of stairs towards the main door. Upon reaching the bottom of the stairs, Woona did a complete 360 degree turn, ignored the front door, and headed along side the stairwell. The first door on her left was the dining room, a room that was only used for Thanksgiving and Christmas. She never understood why but her mother would always be upset when she played in that room. So, without even a second glance, she continued forward towards the second door on her left, the kitchen. She hopped her way into the kitchen as a bunny would, humming a soft tune to herself while she scanned the room for food.

She walked into the kitchen and stopped in front of the Magical Food Box, otherwise known as the fridge. She opened the fridge and only saw a few items: eggs, milk, orange juice, and other non-delectable items. Woona made a sour face as she closed the door. The gurgles started again in her stomach as she opened the cabinets that were in reach. Crackers and cookies would be tasty, but she was in no such mood for these items. Woona used her magic to open the slightly taller cabinets, but her magic quickly ran out and she was exhausted.

"If Tia was awake, she could open those," she sighed to herself.

Woona looked on top of the counter towards the fruit bowl. Her eyes grew wide as she could've sworn she heard an angel's choir off into the distance. Inside the fruit bowl was none other that one beautiful, yellow-ripe banana. She licked her lips as she used her magic to levitate the banana from the bowl. She was about to peel it when a thought came to mind. This banana was Tia's favorite kind of food, and she knew better than to eat said fruit. She put the banana back into the bowl. Then she took it back out. Then she put it back again into the bowl. She repeated this process over and over until she heard footsteps descending from upstairs. Woona's mind sprang into action as she ran out through the kitchen door, turned left, and bolted into the family room. She sat down on the sofa and turned the television on. Cartoons began to play as she heard the steps begin to creak and moan. Tia yawned as she still descended the stairs. Woona sighed heavily at knowing that she did the right thing and put the fruit back.....only to realize her levitation magic was still holding the banana in its purple glow.

Woona let out a small peep as Tia walked towards the family room.

Oh please don't come in here. Oh please don't come in here Woona thought to herself.

"Oh Woona, are you up already?" Tia asked soothingly.

"Yep!" squeaked Woona.

"Are you ok, Woona? You usually don't squeak like that unless I'm tickling you," Tia replied jokingly.

"No, Tia, I'm fine. I'm just watching some cartoons," Woona quickly replied.

"Ok, dear sister, as long as you're ok," Tia replied, her voice trailing off.

Phew, thank goodness she didn't walk in here. Now the problem is how do I sneak this back into the kitchen without Tia noticing? Woona thought to herself. As she pondered this, she heard the flurry of cabinets opening and closing and various drawers being opened and slammed repeatedly. In what felt like an eternity, a dead, eerie silence filled the house. The only noise that was being produced was from the television, as even Woona herself held her breath.

"Oh Dear sisterrrrr," coyed Tia.

"Yessssss?" asked Woona.

"Would you like to play a game, dear sister?" Tia asked with mischief in her voice.

"What kind of game," Woona asked with worry throbbing in her voice.

"Oh, I don't know, I'll let you choose. We can play 20 questions or we can play hide and seek. Your choice Woona," Tia replied in a sing-song manner.

"Uhh, ummmm, Hide and seek?" Woona asked innocently.

"Ohohoho, dear sister, you DO like to have fun in the morning, don't you? Well, it matters not, Woona, I'll give you a head start if you can answer my question," Tia asked, her voice trailing off into the distance.

Woona sat on the couch and began to sweat, her heart throbbing and pounding within her chest. She glanced over her shoulder at the door numerous times, awaiting for something to appear. She did not hear Tia's voice in awhile, so she turned back again. Still nothing in the doorway, she turned around and saw a shadow of something out of the corner of her right eye. She saw a celestial mane flowing freely in the dark on the far end of the couch. The shadow just sat there, staring into the television, its body surrounded by darkness.

"Tiiiaaa?" asked a scared Woona.

"Where...is....my.. BANANA!" Celestia roared, her creepy face illuminated by the glow of the television.

"AAAgghhhh!" squeaked Woona as she ran out of the room and down the hall.

Woona sprinted as fast as her legs could carry her. She bolted straight ahead to the end of the hallway where sanctuary awaited. The door that led to the outside would surely grant Woona her freedom and safety. She tried to open the door and escape from the house, only to realize a powerful incantation was cast on the locks, preventing her departure from the prison of Tia.

"Oh, dear Woona, you didn't think you could escape with my favorite food, now did you?" Tia asked, her voice bouncing off the walls and into Woona's ears.

This is a madhouse! A MADHOUSE!! Woona thought to herself as she ran upstairs.

"Oh, dear me sister, haven't you learned anything from the horror movies we watch? Once you go upstairs, you have no escape," Tia said into the thick, tense atmosphere.

Woona ignored this as she ran upstairs and into Tia's closet. She hid herself and her "possession" in a pile of clothes. Thinking of a better way to conceal herself, she flipped over a laundry basket and put the clothes inside of the basket on top of it.

"This camofwauge will work. She'll never look in here," Woona quietly said to herself.

Woona could hear the soft, quiet creaks from the stairs again. It was Tia and she was on the hunt for her banana. Every creak, every groan from the stairs made Woona's little heart beat faster and faster at each step. Woona began to hyperventilate and tried to slow her breathing so Tia wouldn't find her. The final creak from the step ceased as silence cut through the air like a knife. Woona could see her sister's hoofsteps through the cracks of the closet as she slowly slid deeper into the clothing abyss. Tia's hooves stopped on the soft, pick carpet.

Woona could see all four of her sister's legs, each one perfectly standing still, not budging an inch. Tia was turning her head around the room, scanning for her dear sister. Tia sighed and huffed and she slowly left the room, but she wouldn't leave without another terrifying remark.

"Woona, come out, come out, wherever you are! Remember dear sister, the sun's powers can see everything, even the darkest corners of the MOON!" Tia menacingly laughed out loud.

Woona stayed quiet and hidden as she turned her head and still saw the banana still covered by the clothes. When she looked back through the cracks of the closet again, she saw Tia's four hooves standing in front of it.

"Here's TIA!" Tia yelled, opening the door where only her face could be seen.

Woona squeaked again and ran over Tia, knocking her aside.

"Oh, no, you don't," Tia said sternly as her horn glowed yellow. Tia enveloped Woona's back two hind-legs with her magic as Woona fell on the fluffy, pink carpet. The banana gingerly fell softly beside Woona, the purple glow of magic fading from its curved structure.

Woona struggled to get free, but she couldn't break free of her sister's strong magical ability.

"Stop struggling, Woona, calm down. I just want to know why you took it," Tia asked.

"I was h-h-hungry, and I was about to put it back, but when I heard your footsteps, I ran into the family room because I was scared you would get mad," Woona said, her voice cracking. "I thought I put it back, honest!"

"Why would I be angry with you," Tia asked softly, as she released Woona's hind-legs from her magic.

"Because I took your favorite food," Woona replied with tears in her eyes.

"Oh, silly little sister, I won't ever be mad because of something like that. It's just food after all. We can always get more of the same-"

Celestia's voice was interrupted by the loud, audible gurgling of Woona's belly.

"So you really were hungry, huh?" asked a chuckling Tia.

"Well, yeah," Woona replied somberly.

"Here, Woona, I have an idea," Tia replied.

Tia used her magic and partially unpeeled the banana that lay on the floor. She gave the exposed half of it to her sister and the other half was still in its skin.

Woona took the half of the banana that her sister gave her and began to slowly munch on it, a warm smile illuminating on her small, chubby face. Woona's smile is as bright as the sun itself Tia thought in her head. Tia smiled back at Woona as she took a bite out of her own banana.

"C'mon, Woona, let's go watch some TV, then we can play outside, ok?" asked Tia lovingly.

"Sure, big sis!" Woona shrieked as her body bounced off the ground. "Hey, Tia, I have a question."

"What is it, Woona?"

"Can you teach me how to perform that incantation spell on the lock on the front door," asked Woona, still munching on her snack.

Tia began to chuckle before she burst into a fit of laughter. "There was no incantation spell, little sister," she replied.

"Then how?-"

"You didn't unlock the deadbolt on the door," Tia said with a smirk on her face.

"Ohhhhhh," Woona answered.

"Now, Woona, let's go watch some TV, shall we?" asked Tia.

"You bet, Tia! Last one there is a rotten egg!" Woona yelled as they both raced towards the family room.

Princess Luna woke up during the day and smacked her lips together. "My, what a bizarre dream," she said to herself as she stretched her aching limbs. Luna was quite thirsty so she left her private quarters and went downstairs towards the kitchen. The bright sun shone through the windows, a sight that made Luna's eyes squint with displeasure. Luna walked over to the sink and fetched herself a glass of water. She finished the water and put the glass into the sink.

As she was leaving the kitchen, she noticed a single banana in the fruit bowl atop the kitchen counter. Luna smiled devilishly as she walked over the bowl and used her magic to pick up the banana.

"Remember dear sister, the sun's powers can see everything, even the darkest corners of the moon," a voice whispered through the kitchen.

Luna glanced quickly behind her to see no one. She immediately put the fruit back into the bowl and left the kitchen. "Maybe another time," Luna said to herself as she ascended the stairs to her chamber.

A soft chuckling could be heard in the kitchen as Princess Celestia climbed out from behind a crate of bananas, a bright, gleaming grin stretched across her face.
