Chapter 3

Balls of pure light started to form around the room. The spell that Enlighten had activated seemed to be working. He was keeping his eyes closed the whole time, so the only way he could tell was by sensing the area around him.

The balls of pure energy started to form around Enlighten at a fast rate. More formed in the room, only to continue this process as well. The energy forming around Enlighten turned into a sphere made out of what seemed to be light around the colt. Inside the sphere wings were forming on Enlightens body. They were transparent, colored a shade of gold, and besides that, looked exactly like regular alicorn wings.

Enlighten could feel his own energy increasing. As if he was getting stronger somehow.

Nothing else could be felt though. The wings, the sphere of energy, nothing. All that could be was the energy being changed.

The spell ended with the sphere blasting itself around the room. then fading away. Enlighten opened his eyes. He took a look into the mirror. “It… it worked.” He said amazed. “I… I’m a….” He couldn’t even say anything straight from how shocked he was. The spell he worked so hard on for two years, was… finished. Not just that, it was able to do something no pony would even think possible. “It worked!” Enlighten said overjoyed by what he just did.

“What’s going on up their?” A voice from down stairs said. The voice was his dad. “I heard a loud bang. What was it?” “Nothing!’ Enlighten responded. “No it was something!” His dad yelled back. “Tell me what it was now!” Enlighten had to think of something fast. Who knew what would happen if they figured out he created a spell that makes him an alicorn? “Something fell. I put it back. Nothing broke. Relax.” Enlighten quickly answered. “Nothing better have!” His dad said back.

Enlighten went back to look at himself in the mirror. Nothing much changed. Besides the wings, he was now glowing a slight bit. The wings had a stronger glow, but that wasn’t really important. He was also already a unicorn, so nothing much there either.

He moved the wings around to get a good feel with them. They didn’t really feel like energy attached to the body like he thought they would. Instead they felt like actual part of his body. Like they were always there. Since birth.

The only thing left was to see if he was able to fly. “I never took listens for that.” Enlighten said to himself. “How am I supposed to figure that out. Even twilight has trouble with that.” He started thinking about a way for flying to be possible without the knowledge of it.

In a matter of about five minutes, a memory came to him. There was a thing he left in the spell. Subconscious instructions to make flying natural to the user of the spell. “Alright, only one way to see if that worked.” Enlighten said calmly to himself before jumping into the air. All he did was think start flying, and his wings spread at naturally. They instantly started flapping, and holding Enlighten in the air. ‘It worked.’ Enlighten though. ‘I can’t believe everything's working!’

Immediately he thought of going outside to test this new form some more. The only problem would be making sure that nopony saw him. He had to think of something for that.

“Well here we are.” Silver spoon said. “Do you think she would know something about this?” “This was your plan.” Diamond Tiara responded. “Oh right.” Sliver said back.

They both stepped into Twilight’s library. Spike noticed them just as they stepped in. ‘What do they want?’ He thought. ‘Enlightens ok, but them, that’s going too far.’ “Hello.” He said trying to be nice. “What can I do for you?” “We just wanted to ask Twilight something.” Diamond Tiara answered. “Now can you please go get her?” She was acting like she was better than everypony as usual. “Right away.” Spike said. He left the room to go get Twilight.

A few minutes later they both step into the room. “I don’t know what they want. They never tell me these things.” Spike said to twilight. “Well I would just be nice to know is all I’m saying.” Twilight responded.

“Hello.” Twilight said to the young fillies that were in front of her. "Hi." Diamond said back. "Anything you wanted?" Twilight asked wondering why these two fillies would show up while she was busy doing paper work. There was a new law that was supposed to get passed. At least she didn't have to deal with it at this moment. "Silver, show her the papers." Diamond ordered. Silver handed three papers that seemed to be some kind of coding for magic.

"We found these papers lying around. We weren't able to figure out anything about theme. Maybe you can help us?" Sliver explained to Twilight. "Maybe... I'll have to take a better look at it.

The papers were.... confusing. This wasn't anything that Twilight had seen before. It looked like magic. Some kind of instructions for a spell in fact, but... She never seen this kind of magic before.

"I will have to look into it more. Mind if I keep them for a while?" Twilight said. "Fine, just don't keep them for too long." Diamond answered. "Let's get out of here." Silver said. They both walked out the door. Twilight just looked at spike. "Well spike," twilight started. "Looks like we have a new type of magic on our hooves." "New type?" Spike asked confused. "I haven't seen anything like this before. It could be some kind of powerful spell." "How do you know that?" "This symbol." Twilight pointed to a symbol that looked like some kind of circle used in more powerful spells. "Whatever this is," Twilight started saying. "It's got to be good." "How do you know it’s a new kind of magic?" Spike asked. "It's met for unicorns. Yet it doesn't use a horn."

The plan seemed perfect enough to go along with. First off, his parents tend to don’t care if he goes outside or not. Along as he says he is. They wouldn’t look at him. That also met he didn’t have to undo the spell for a while. Second there’s an area off in the back alleys that nopony ever goes to. Even if there is one, it would only be two or three at a time. He could see how far he can go there. For the spell part, The Everfree Forest was one, not dangerous around the parts near Ponyville, two free of other ponies. He went in there all the time, what could be the harm.

“All right that seems like good enough planning.” Enlighten said to himself. “Let’s do this.” He proceeded down the stairs.

“Mom, I’m going out for a while again.” Enlighten yelled over to his mother. “Be back soon it’s almost dark out.” Dream said back.

Enlighten stepped out the door. Just as he predicted, nopony saw him. He spread out his wings and took to the sky.

Flying actually made him feel free. Like there wasn’t anything in the world that could stop him. He was able to avoid most of the ponies so far. Most in the air. Not that anypony ever looked up. When they did, he could hide on a roof. One almost actually caught him. Of course a young alicorn at this given day in age, that just couldn’t be possible.

Right now he was over the area he was planning on going to. He was just trying out flips and tricks to see if the wings actually worked. Somehow most of it seemed natural. Unless he tried something advanced like flipping. There was no way he could make a back or front flip without landing on the ground face first. No way!

“Ok let’s try an aileron roll.” Enlighten said quietly. Just because it’s an empty place, doesn’t mean there’s no ponies around.

The area was actually a wide open one. It doesn’t have many buildings around. It actually was just used for crossing from one area to another. Most ponies tried flying here for practice. He wouldn’t seem out of place from far away, but up close, they’d know everything just by looking at him.

Enlighten charged at as much speed as he can get up to. When he felt he was fast enough, the alicorn flipped around trying to turn in mid air. His body actually started diving at an angle toward the ground. just before he hit it, Enlighten noticed the ground getting closer and tried to stop himself just before he hit the grass. He ended up crashing into it, but at a much slower speed. “All right. No more turning my back toward the ground.” Enlighten said as he got up.

Two ponies could be heard coming closer to the area Enlighten was in. All the young colt did at that moment was fly into the air and get out of the field before anyone saw.

“Did you see that?” Silver said to diamond as they were walking home. “Yeah that was weird.” Diamond said. “Looked like some kind of moving light.” “We shouldn’t of gotten into Enlightens stuff.” Silver said back. “You’re right on that one.”

Twilight was going through some books on any kind of strange or unused magic she could find. Most of it didn’t help. “Spike!” Twilight called. “Where’s the other books I asked for five minutes ago.” “I’m getting them!” Spike called back. “They aren’t exactly easy to find. All of the other books I have memorized. These we don’t ever use.” “I know, but this spell looks like it could come in handy. I just don’t know what it does, or even why it exists.” All Twilight could figure out is that there was no horn stated in the spell. The part about it being used for unicorns was obvious, because they are mentioned over and over again.

“You are really desperate to figure this thing out aren’t you?” Spike asked Twilight. “Yes I am. I looks quite well made. If anything incomplete. Maybe I can compete and use this somehow to-” Twilight Sparkle was saying before she was cut off by Spike.”Listen. You are busy with other things at the moment. You can figure this thing out another time. Celestial probably wants a reason why the law shouldn’t be passed by now.” “got it Spike.” Twilight said calming down. “What would I do without you?”

“This is getting fun!” Enlighten said while he was flying through the sky. “Why I never thought of just flying around before I don’t know. Had to be easier than turning myself into a god!” He was just free flying through the air right now. The sun was starting to set and it was getting late. “Hmmm… Getting late. Still there's got to be one more thing I have to do. The magic can wait till tomorrow but.” Enlighten was saying.

Just then a random cloud passed by. “AHA!” Enlighten shouted. “I ALWAYS wondered how soft those things really were.” Enlighten dashed for the cloud the was right there. No pony seemed to be in sight to it had to be clear.

It felt like the softest thing in the world. All of the stories about those things being soft wasn’t a joke. Why did only Pegasus get to enjoy this!? This felt great!

The sun was fully set now, and Enlighten was miles from his house. “Oh great! Better get home!” He took off straight for his house.

When he got there Enlighten realized something. He had to undo the spell. “Well what was that again.” He really had to think. He hasn’t opened the door yet, because he was afraid of his parents seeing him as an alicorn. “I think it was just think it.” Enlighten tried that out and surprisingly it worked.

The wings faded. Right from the tip to his body. The glow that surrounded him was also gone.

“Here we go.” Enlighten softly said to himself. He knew his parents were going to be upset.

He opened the door and walked in. “I’m home!” He said into the other room. “Where have you been!?” His dad shouted back. “You are supposed to be home before the sun sets! Why were you out so late?” Enlighten just didn’t answer. Staying quiet did always solve things better. “Answer the question!” “I didn’t realize the time ok.” Enlighten said very calmly. As if he was too shy to talk to people in the first place. “That doesn’t matter! Just go upstairs! You’re grounded for the rest of today.”

Enlighten walked up the stairs. He stepped into his room and went to his bed. “Why do they always take things so far?” He said to himself. “It’s not like something would happen to me around here. Plus I know my way around. They always get angry at me for everything they can.”

“Enlightens finally home.” Dreams husband said to her. “Well about time. Where has he been?” Dream said back "Outside wondering around.” “Doesn’t he ever just listen to us. He’s going to get himself killed.” “I noticed that. Then what would happen? Too late for him then.” “He really doesn’t do anything does he?” “No he doesn’t.”

Dream just sat down in the living room. “Yes?” Her husband said. “I just worry about him.” “Well, you should.” Her husband said back “I know that. I’m going to cook dinner. Is that alright?” “I’ll do it this time.” “Fine by me.” Dream said back.
