//------------------------------// // Spitfire Breaks Through // Story: Harmony In One Pony // by Gabrielangel13 //------------------------------// "Ugh, Spike! Scoot over! You're in my personal space!" Twilight whined. "There's half of the chariot between us!" Spike retorted. "I said stay in your corner!" Twilight Sparkle snapped angrily. Spike had never been so happy to have a trip end before. As the pair exited the chariot, Twilight walked towards town hall. "Thank, gents." The baby dragon thanked the drivers. He gave them a generous tip of twenty bits for putting up with his guardian. "Hurry up, Spike!" Twilight shouted. He quickly sprinted to catch up. "Town hall. Surely this is where I'll be staying!" Twilight said and pranced into the building. She was quickly directed to the abandon ex library, however. This left her in an awful mood and she spent the night yelling at Spike for not cleaning exactly the way she wanted it cleaned. -----------on the train to Ponyville------------- "Ms. Stone? Why do I have to go to Ponyille?" A small filly asked. "Because nopony in Manehatten wants to adopt a freak like you!" Ms. Stone Heart responded to the pegusus. She was this filly' caseworker, and she hated Jewel Wing with all her hard heart. Jewel Wing was different than most, and she couldn't ever keep her wings hidden long enough for the adoption to go through. The filly beside her groaned in frustration. "But nopony will want me here either!" She whined. "I have a new spell. It will hide your freakiness." She replied. In their private coach, nopony would see the spell cast. Stone Heart lit her horn and little Jewel wing shook from the force of magic. Slowly her coat changed colors, and her wings turned the same shade if red. Stone Heart quickly collapsed. "Stone Heart!" The filly shrieked in fear. She sighed in relief as the unicorn pulled herself to her hooves. "PONYVILLE STATION" a voice boomed over the loud speakers. "Just in time, too. Tomorrow is the Summer Sun Celebration, and some pony there will adopt you! I'm sure if it!" The mare said. "Great." Jewel Wing thought and rolled her eyes. But she followed the mare nonetheless. -----------WonderBolt practice----------- Spitfire was pushing her limits. Today was another exercise on speed. The Captain had really been pushing them lately, intent on making them break the sound barrier. But as of yet, the Capt. Was the only one to successfully do it. Spitfire gave herself some more speed. She hardly noticed as Soarin' and Fleetfoot, her training partners for the day, were left behind. She pushed harder and harder. She felt as if her skin was peeling off her body, the wind hit her so fast. Still, she would not slow. The Captain wouldn't have approved. Spitfire's wings began to cramp from the physical exertion. With a final burst of energy, Spitfire felt as if a barrier moved from around her. She shot forward faster, a loud boom was heard and her aching muscles forgotten. "I did it!" She thought, "I actually broke through the sound barrier!" She let out a joyous cheer. She looked back and saw what appeared to be a trail of fire flowing behind her. Suddenly, a streak of rainbow flew past her, leaving its own colors behind it. A cyan pegusus flapped her wings and slowed to a pace to match Spitfire. "What's that shout about, Lieutenant?" She called. "I broke the sound barrier, Capt.!" She shouted back. Her trail began dying out and she once again felt a wall press against her. That's when the cramping feeling returned. With a cry of pain, her wing tensed and she fell to the ground. She tried desperately to catch herself, but failed. She landed painfully in a stack of hay. "Ow." She muttered as she pulled herself from the haystack. "You broke the sound barrier, whoopee do." Captain Rainbow Dash said sarcastically. "But, isn't that what you told us to do?" Spitfire asked. "I wanted a Sonic Rainboom from you! You only broke into the one-color spectrum! You couldn't even reach the Rainbow Spectrum, and that was your best? Come on, Lieutenant! Pick up your game!" She criticized and flew off. Fleet Foot and Soarin' got to hear the last few sentences of that conversation. "Wow, Spits! That was AWESOME!" Fleetfoot congratulated. "Well cap sure didn't think so." Spitfire muttered. Soarin sighed. She was always trying to impress Rainbow Dash, but she never did. "WONDERBOLTS! MEETING! NOW!" Rainbow Dash shouted. The three didn't argue as they flew towards the meeting house, Spitfires wings finally uncramped.
