Well Why Not?

At Canterlot High School

Algebra was a pain in the ass. All you ever did was count. Chemistry was Sunset Shimmer's favorite. All that mixing up stuff reminded her about mixing potions. Which reminded her about magic, which reminded her about Equestria.

Equestria.

Her homeland. The place where she really belonged. It had been so long since she'd ever been there, and since she'd had any real reminder that it really that it even existed. That had been two and a half years ago. By now she’d made up for all her mistakes, and had apologized more times than you could count. Though the one who she really felt deserved an apology was Twilight Sparkle. Twilight Sparkle the purple alicorn princess from Equestria. Sunset laughed in spite of the guilt she’d been feeling.

“Excuse me Miss Sunset, but may I ask what is so funny about algebra?”

Mr. Dill, the math teacher, interrupted Sunset from her thoughts.
“Would you care to tell the class?”

“Well-um-I-I…” Sunset stammered.

“Very well then, if you won’t answer me, answer this equation,” he said as he wrote a problem on the board.

Oh crap, Sunset thought. Mr. Dill always gave awful problems. She stared at the board, trying to remember everything she could about math.

(325- 53y)- 7.56+2.887= ?
(Y=92)

Sunset quickly worked out the figures in her head.
“Um, 847,288,604,521.683?”

“Off by one hundredth, but I suppose that will do.”

She sighed. She heard some rumors that Mr. Dill had sent some students to a one and a half hour detention just because they had gotten a problem like that wrong.

RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After this class was lunch break. Sunset Shimmer had already made up her mind to check the portal after lunch. She knew it was childish, but she really missed Equestria. She wanted to see Princess Celestia again (Princess, not principal), and do magic. She also wanted to see Twilight Sparkle.

“Hey Sunny!”

“I prefer Sunset,” she said as Rainbow Dash strode over.

“Fine, sorry. Anyway I was wondering if ya wanna go hang out by the statue after lunch to ya know, talk, catch up. Besides, I know you’re goin’ out there anyway, to… check the portal so--"

“WHAT!?” Sunset outburst drew the attention of the remaining students in the room.

“Um, I mean, how do you know I check all the time?” she asked in a fierce whisper.

“Oh come ooon I’ve seen you checking for two years, you think I haven’t noticed that you’re out there everyday by now?”

“Oh right,”

“So ya wanna come or not?”

“Sure,”

“K then see ya later!” Rainbow jogged off to the lunchroom.

“Looks like pig slop today,” Sunset joked, but really she wasn’t to far off. There were cucumbers, potatoes, carrots, and maybe broccoli mixed into green goo that looked like rotting algae.

“I think I’m going to puke,” said RD as she eyed her lunch tray, and clutched her stomach.

“Maybe if you do it onto your plate, the lunch monitors won’t notice,” said Sunset.

“You sure are bein’ a jokester today,” RD said, now eyeing Sunset.

“Sorry, I’m just, as Pinkie would say, nevousited! What if the portal is open? What should I do? Should I go through? Should I run around screaming and yelling like a prefect idiot? I’ve been wait for over two years and I don’t even know what I’ve been waiting for!”

“Ooohk,” was Rainbow Dash’s reply.

“Ya know what? I’m outta here. If the portal’s open then I’m going. For good.”

“So why am I here?” asked Sunset.

“Well you said you wanted to come out and chat,” said RD, who was a little shaken up by what Sunset had said at lunch.

“Right, well… Let’s check the portal.”

“Oh. My. God.”

“What?” said Rainbow.

“It’s open,” said Sunset, with a smile on her face.

“So, I guess you’re going, huh?”

“Well, why not?”

In Equestria: The Crystal Kingdom

“Twilight! How was your trip?” said Princess Cadence, a beautiful pink alicorn mare.

“Smooth, I guess. So I heard that the portal just opened,” said Princess Twilight Sparkle.

“Yes, I just wanted the Elements nearby in case another enemy tries to enter Equestria,” said a tall, white alicorn mare with a flowing rainbow mane.

“You’d think after last time you wouldn’t want the Elements around,” retorted Rainbow Dash.

“That is true, but my sister and I have agreed that if anything were to threaten Equestria, then the Elements would be the first trick up our sleeve,” said Princess Luna, the dark blue alicorn.

“So has there been anything out of the ordinary?” asked Twilight Sparkle.

“No, nothing. Perhaps we may have dragged you out here for nothing," said Princess Celestia. "Perhaps I worry to much. Anyway, your rooms are the same as before. The guards can escort if you don’t remember.”

“Okie doki loki,” said Pinkie Pie.

“Simply smashing,” said Rarity.

“Whoo-wee” said Apple Jack

"Oh, I’m so happy I could cheer… yay” whispered Fluttershy.

“Aw yeah, awesome,” said Rainbow Dash

“Thank you, Your Majesties,” said Twilight Sparkle

Later that night…

umph

“Whoa” Sunset gasped.

She hadn’t really gotten to see the Crystal Castle when she’d last ‘visited’ the Castle. It was beautiful. She stood up and tried to walk around. She then realized that she was not in here usually form. No, she was in her real form. The body in which she had been born in.
Maybe I should go find a room to spend the night in, she thought.

No, I’ve got to explore! Said another voice in her head.

She walked around trying to get used to her old legs and body structure while the two sides of her mind argued. Finally she decided to find an empty room. She snuck around for what seemed like forever. She had to dodge guards, mostly because she didn’t particularly want to be found sneaking through the castle and have to explain it in the middle of the night. She found a room with a comfy looking bed. Just as she was laying down, she heard a voice say,

“Huh? Sunset?”

“Oh, heh heh, hi… Twilight.”
