Chapter 1

Enlighten stared at his desk. He wasn’t quite sure what to think at the moment in time. "So, if I change the symbol on the far left, it should be able to teleport you. That won’t fix the fact that it wouldn't know where to teleport you at the moment the spell is activated." Enlighten thought.

It was another day in school. Not like much good even happened. Enlighten was sitting at his desk along with all of the other students, trying to ignore what was going on. Another group discussion on a simple math question was going on. Not that anyone the group cared that he was even there.

What Enlighten was currently thinking of was how to fix a spell he was working on. He had always found making spells and getting them to work easy; he had created plenty before.

“Ok get back into your normal positions, it’s almost time for recess.” Cheerily said. That had completely snapped Enlighten back into reality. He moved his desk out of the group and back into the normal spot, the far back, left corner. That was perfect for him. Out of everyone's sight.

“Now can you tell me what the answer was.” asked Cheerily happy as always, which just got annoying. “Apple Bloom, what did your group get?” “Well we got that X should equal forty six.” Apple Bloom answered. She was trying to figure the thing out the whole time with no luck. "Then maybe you shoulda saw that it there was an X on both sides." Enlighten thought. It was another question where there were two lines in between the equation. Then there was the answer. Not like Enlighten could ever remember anything's name. Not ponies, not objects, not even types of math equations. He remembered numbers easier than names which just breaks what's known about ponies in science. “And then we got thirty one.” Apple Bloom said.

“Good try, but you have to remember that when there's is an x on both sides to check the answer first.” Cheerily advised. “How about the next one? Enlighten?” “Uhh… X equals seven or nineteen.” Enlighten said nervously. The teacher never called on him. AT ALL! Why would she do it now? It completely caught Enlighten off guard. “Correct.” Cheerily said. Everyone in the group just stared at Enlighten. He just put his head down and thought about how to fix the spell he’s working on.

Still, why did creating spells have to be his talent? He’s able to make spells where he doesn’t even have to use his horn as well. Still, why that? It only gets him into trouble. His parents hate him using any of them. They say that they are too dangerous. How can they be? He created them himself. He knows what they do. Yet, they don’t trust them.

The spell he was currently working on should be able to teleport anypony to any desired location where he or she set a waypoint to. Sure that pony would have to go there first, but that is the only way to get it to work. Besides, going to an area first didn’t seem too bad.

He was snapped out of his train of thought when the class had ended. “That’s it for math today.” Cheerily said. “You may all go outside for recess now.” "Well. that ended that." Enlighten thought. He put his notes away, leaving the papers he was using for his newest spell on the desk, completely forgetting about them.

He left the room, and then the building. Recess wasn’t one of his favorite things. Not many ponies were friends with him. In fact, none of them even knew him.

Right when Enlighten was outside, he ran into Diamond Tiara. “Well, hello.” She said. “I believe I told you before, I don’t know you.” Enlighten responded with. He was hoping that would get her off his back. Even for ten seconds would be nice. “Yeah, you know who I am. We see each other every day in school.” Diamond said. Silver Spoon came walking over. She was looking for diamond. Of course when Silver saw Enlighten there was a chance for her. “Diamond what’s taking you so long. Oh it’s you. Why are you around him? He doesn’t even have a cutie mark yet.” Silver said. “Yeah I know. How doesn’t he? I see him writing these weird things during class all the time. Whatever, lets go before he does something weird again!"

Truth was, he did have one. He was just able to make a spell that can hide it with an illusion. He didn’t want anypony else knowing he could make spells, though the spell didn’t hide the cutie mark. No, that would take a lot of work, more than Enlighten could do. This spell only hid the cutie mark. Put something over it until Enlighten wanted to show his talent to others.

Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon were walking off by now. “Blank flank.” They both teased in unison. After they had said that, they were laughing as if they had achieved something.

The Cutie Mark Crusaders were off in the distance watching. “Why are they so mean?” She said looking at the other Crusaders. “One of the great mysteries of life I guess.” Scootaloo replied. “What I want to know is how Enlighten doesn’t have his cutie mark yet.” “Yeah, great question Scootaloo.” Sweetie Belle said kind of nervously. She had actually seen Enlighten do one of his spells before. Enlighten made her swear to never talk about it. “You ok Sweetie Bell?” Apple Bloom asked. It was obvious. Sweetie didn’t respond at first. “Yeah why?” She ended up saying after a few seconds. “Alright then.” Apple bloom said after finally getting her answer.

Enlighten was in a back corner of school grounds. He was working on a spell he was stuck on for two years. A spell that should change pony kind for years at the least. Everything always goes back to how it was anyways. This spell was the most complicated one yet. There was just something he was missing though. Something that wouldn’t allow him to finish the spell until he had that one thing. Just one thing.

“Hello.” Enlighten was startled. Not like he was getting anywhere. He looked up only to see the CMC right there in front of him. ‘No!’ He thought. ‘I am not in the mood after what Diamond did. Go away!!’ He hid his anger and as calm as he could responded. “Yes?” “Is something wrong?” Sweetie Belle asked. “No, why?” Enlighten responded. His anger was obvious, and that wasn’t good. One simple thing and ponies just freak out on him. Why? Not as if he knew why. “HEY! We are just trying to be nice!” Scootaloo said. “Yeah, what’s your problem?” Apple Bloom agreed. “Nothing. Nothing is my problem.” This same thing was getting annoying. “Well it sure seems like you have one.” Scootaloo had said, her irritation growing. “If it’s Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon, then just calm down. We only wanted to see if you were ok.” Enlighten just stayed quiet. It was the best thing to do at these points. They would just leave forgetting about trying to help. They wouldn’t calm down anyways. There was no use talking. “Hello!” Scootaloo yelled. “Forget it girls, let’s just leave him be.” Sweetie Bell said. They left at that point. Enlighten just sat there. Thinking about why ponies always got angry at him. That is always why he tried to just leave them be. There was just no use in socializing. There was just no use in anything.

Recess ended, thank Celestia herself, and everypony walked back inside for social studies. The actual learning was ok. Nothing wrong with it. It was just the students that made him hate school so much. “Ok class, today we are moving on to learn about how the capital of Equestria, Canterlot was founded.” Cheerily had said in that same tone she always used. Jeez, did she have a script or something?

“It started with dark magic flooding the woods around the old castle.” Cheerily started. "Yeah this is all nonsense." Enlighten started thinking. "Negative energy started flooding the Everfree forest. Most likely left over from all of the stupid things going on one thousand years ago. That caused a misbalance in the forest making things go out of whack. That’s all there is to it. Just negative energy being released into the universe. Does nopony understand this?" “After all of this happened, Celestia started looking for a new place for a castle.” Cheerily continued going on. “She was told about a free spot on the hill and decided to go there. Being close by, it was a good point to make things quick."

"Many ponies helped build the castle and couldn’t go back home during the time it was happening. These ponies decided to make homes around the area where the castle was. That led to other ponies wanting a spot near that castle as well.” "No duh. The fact that they were near the princess meant they could go to her and give them their problems. They had more say in the government than ponies farther away." “Because these plots were so high in demand, only the rich could get a house close to the castle.” Cheerily had said. "Well that explains everything!" Enlighten had thought. He was not a fan of the rich. “This led to Canterlot becoming more refined. Which is why it is this way today.” Enlighten had been taking notes the entire time. He was one of the ponies with higher grades. Of course when most ponies have barely any B’s and you could pull of a A- without even trying, you know you got to keep that up. Not like he studied though. The notes were just for participation grades.

The school day had ended and he walked on home by himself, avoiding as many ponies as he could.

By the time he got home he went straight upstairs to his room. He didn’t have any homework, so he would just read a book or continue a spell or something.

His mother stopped him before he could enter his room, though. “So, how was your day?” She said hoping this time would be different. “Fine.” Enlighten replied. “You’re not just saying that again are you?” Enlightens mother said. “No, I’m not.” “Are you sure? I need to know if anyone is bullying you. That can’t just happen.” His mother pressed. “It’s fine.” Enlighten thought to himself, "It's not like you do anything about it anyways...". She actually never did. Well nothing ever gets done, things happen, they just get Enlighten into trouble. “Well alright then.” His mother said before going back down stairs.

Enlighten entered his room. Finally alone, he thought of what to do.
