“It was a cold, dark and starless night.”
“That’s so cliché” exclaimed Rainbow Dash
“But it’s spooooooky” rebutted Pinkie Pie
“Maybe spooky for little fillies, but that couldn’t scare me”
“It seems scary to me” replied Fluttershy from under a blanket.
Rainbow Dash rolls her eyes and looked out the Library window. “Actually it’s a lot like tonight”
Fluttershy whimpered and pulled the blanket tighter over her.
“Now I forget where I was in the story” complained Pinkie.
The door to the library opened with a crash.
“Sorry y’all that I’m late, it’s hard to see without any moon light”
“It’s alright darling; Pinkie was just regaling us with a ghost story”
“You knew it was going to be about ghosts? Did I tell this one before? Ooh maybe you are getting Psychic powers! What am number am I thinking of?”
“Rarity’s not Psychic, I told you your story was cliché everyone knew it would be a ghost story.”
“It doesn't matter if it is cliché, ghost stories are always fun on a night like this” stated Spike from the ladder in front of the bookshelf.
“Have you found that book on Lunar Physics yet Spike?” Asked Twilight Sparkle.
“Yep! Here it is…” Spike began to say as Twilight levitated the book from him causing him to fall from the latter and on to Rarity.
“Are you alright Spikey?” asked Rarity.
“I'm fine with you.. I mean I'm fine”
“Would you mind terribly getting off me then dear?”
Spike hopped down to the floor. “So what’s so important about that book Twi?”
“It tells about the effects the Moon has on all of Equestria, and this isn't good at all. We need to find out why Luna has not raised the Moon. If this continues the consequences could be dire!”
“Yeah they could run out candles at the candle store, then we wouldn't have any candles and if there are no candles we couldn't have Birthday cakes, and without Birthday cakes how would anyone know it is a Birthday party… there may never be a party again! This really is dire!”
“Calm down Pinkie, parties will be the least of the problems” replied Twilight.
Pinkie had already put on her detective outfit and bubble pipe and was waiting at the door. “Come on we have to get to the bottom of this” bubbles rose from her pipe.
“We should wait until morning so we can actually see where we are going, sugar cube”
Pinkie turns on her night vision goggles “No time to lose, parties are at stake!”
“What are those and where did you even get them from… nevermind, let’s go”
“Maybe I should just stay here in case Princess Luna shows up if that’s okay with you” said Fluttershy quietly.
“We may need you with us, come along Fluttershy”
The seven left the safety of the Library and headed for Canterlot. The train was not running so they were in for a very long walk. The shadows seemed to move as they made their journey. Often what appeared like eyes could be seen staring at them from the bushes.

“Everything is going as planned my Queen, no one suspect’s you.” reported the night-guard.
“Good, with Luna safely encased, nothing will stop me this time” replied Queen Chrysalis.
“Aren't you forgetting somebody” replied a man from the shadows.
“I mean nothing will stop us this time”
“Much better, but do try to remember me next time. If it wasn't for me you wouldn't even have gotten this far. I really put my neck out for you” stated the man in the shadows whose neck extended twenty feet before his head popped off and floated in front of Queen Chrysalis. “I just want to be loved” he said with wide, sad eyes.
“I am not used to working with a partner, normally my minions are capable of supporting me but the last time we invaded Canterlot it was an utter disaster.”
“I just know we will be the best of friends” the man in the shadows snapped his fingers and a milkshake with two straws appeared between them.
Chrysalis spit out the straw. “I told you to stop doing stuff like that Discord”
“Oh you are no fun, even Fluttershy let me have fun. I am starting to rethink if this was such a good idea.”
“Fine we can share the milkshake”

“EEEEK what is that?” Fluttershy said as she jumped behind Rainbow Dash.
The dark figure with green eyes stepped out from the shadows, closing his bat wings.
“It’s one of Luna’s Royal guards” replied Twilight
“Greetings Princess Twilight, we did not expect to see you tonight. Do you have business at the castle?” stated the night-guard.
“We have come to see why Luna has not raised the moon”
“Luna has decreed that the Moon shall not rise until the threat from the Moon has been eliminated.”
“What threat?”
“That is not your concern.”
“We carry the Elements of Harmony, we can help!”
“This is not your concern, return to your homes. Canterlot is closed to you. You will be arrested if you attempt to enter the city. Please leave now.”
"But..."
"Leave now, you will not be asked again."
“Alright, we will go” replies twilight.
“Thank you for your cooperation” the bat pony extended his wings and flew back to his vantage point.
“Something isn’t right here, why would we be banned from Canterlot?” expressed Twilight.
“Did you forget to return a Library book? Did you forget the Princess’s birthday? Maybe she didn't like my Party! This is all my fault.”
“I think this goes beyond parties.”
Rainbow Dash rises on to her hind legs with her front legs raised in front of her punching at the air. “So Twi, what are we going to do? Fly in a supersonic speeds, fight our way to the throne room and demand answers?”
“No Dash, I think we will need to take a more subtle approach. Let me think.”

“Thank you for your report, you are dismissed” she turns to the Discord statue next to her. “It seems our old friends are….”
Discord changes form from the throne and back to his usual self, Chrysalis falls to the floor. “Why are you talking to that statue?”
“Stop doing that…wait why were you my throne?”
“You were saying?” Discord snaps his fingers and turns the Discord statue back in to Chrysalis’ throne.
“As expected Twilight Sparkle and her friends have shown up, one of my guards have turned them back however we both know that will not stop them!”
“I know just what to do! This is going to be so fun!” replied Discord has he vanished.

“So have you come up with anything yet, or shall we do my plan?” stated Dash punching at the air again.
“I think I have something….” a flash of bright light occurs and the surroundings change. They are in Celestia's throne room. Discord is sitting on the Throne with Celestia standing next to him.
“Discord, so you are behind this!” Twilight stomps her hoof on the ground.
“No my faithful student, Discord is assisting us in this crisis.”
A halo appears over Discords head “How could you even think it was me, I'm one of the good guys now” a saintly glow emanates from him while a choir begins to sing. "All thanks to my best friend Fluttershy remember?"
“It seems my dear sister may have fallen victim to Nightmare Moon again. Discord has reported to me that she threatened to banish him if he told anyone. She has ordered her guards to seal off the city. She has also erected some kind of dampening field so I can’t even raise the Sun let alone the Moon.”
A bat-pony lands in front of the throne room “I must report this treachery to Princess Luna at once.” The guard flaps his unfeathered wings and flies off. A small green flash goes unnoticed as the bat-pony changes back to changeling form.
“You must protect me; she threatened to turn me in to a statue on the moon”
“How do we know you are not behind this!” exclaims Rainbow Dash.
“Don’t be mean Dash, Discord is good now, just look at him” Fluttershy gestures at Discord who is petting an incredibly cute and fuzzy kitten.
“I don’t trust him.” replied Rainbow Dash

“So they believe Discord? Excellent, maybe this plan will work after all. Good work ‘Captain’”
“If you don’t mind me asking, what exactly is the plan” inquired the changeling disguised as the Captain of the Night-guard.
“Just because you look like someone of authority doesn't give you the right to question me”
“Sorry my Queen”
“It’s alright. The plan is simple. We get all the ponies terrified of the night, then when we allow the Sun to be raised everyone will love Celestia for saving them from the darkness. Little do they know, once Celestia raises the Sun I will replace her!”
Lightning cracked outside the window “What was that?!”
A gray mare with a blonde mane yelled “Sorry Princess Luna, I was moving this cloud to see if the Moon was behind it. I just don’t know what went wrong.” She looked in the window shrugging and smiling.
Chrysalis glared at her. “Don’t let it happen again or something”
The gray mare flew away quickly.

Suddenly the lights went out in Celestia’s throne room.
“What’s going on”
“Eeep something touched me”
“I think I hear a weird flapping, like that night-guard from earlier.”
“Ow!”
“Hee hee that tickles!”
The lights come back on, nothing seems to be amiss.
“Alight girls let’s go find Nightmare Moon and turn her back through the power of friendship and the Elements of Harmon…” Twilight is interrupted as the gem from her crown falls to the ground and shatters.
Celestia inspects the remains of the gem. “I fear the Elements will not be able to help us this time. This appears to be a carefully made forgery. I think we may need to call in a favour from an old friend.” Celestia goes to her throne and opens a secret compartment. She presses a button and closes the compartment again.
“What does that do?”
“Just wait and see, hopefully he will be able to help us, we need all the help we can get!”
A strange noise is heard in the corner of the room that is accompanied by a flashing light.
“What in tarnation?”
“And here we are finally at the Diamond Falls of Planet Midnight! Wait this isn't Midnight, well it looks like it is Midnight, but it isn't the planet Midnight.”
“Pffftftpfpfffttff” said the Doctor’s fluffy companion.
“That’s your answer to everything, I really don’t know why I let you tag along”
“Doctor, we are so glad you could make it”
“I'm back here again? It was so hard to leave the last time I was here; I had to burn through 27 rooms just to get out of this universe. I miss my pool, I really need to get a new pool.”
“Sorry Doctor, but we need you.”

“Oh this is just too much, my sides are literally splitting” Discords sides open shaping his body like a doughnut. “We stole the Elements of Harmony without them realizing it, and they summoned that weird-o in the blue box to save the day.”
“I don’t know this ‘weird-o in a blue box’… and stop doing stuff like that Discord you look ridiculous”
“He claims to be from space and talks gibberish. They all like him because somehow manages to fix problems that I could
have fixed if anybody bothered to ask me. It would be even easier for me to fix it; I'm probably the one who caused the problem in the first place. It can be so boring being the good guy with the magic hands. Want a demonstration of my magic hands my dear Queenie?”
Chrysalis blushes for a moment then yells at Discord “Stop calling me that!”
“You are no fun at all Queenie… I mean Queen Chrysalis”

“You are no fun at all Twilie, I still say that if we throw a massive party Nightmare Moon will forget all about hating us.”
“Twilight’s right sugar cube, not everything can be fixed with a party, but you can be sure as little green apples that we will have a party after this.”
Twilight and The Doctor continued to work on a non-party related plan as Pinkie worked on the after -Equestria-is-saved party planning.
“Brilliant, this is so brilliant it will work” exclaimed the Doctor
“I know isn’t it? A cake shaped just like Canterlot!”
“Sorry my excitable Pink friend, I wasn't referring to your plan, I was referring to our save Equestria pla……”
Fluttershy notices a small timid creature near the corner of the room. “Oh hey there little fellow, are you lost? It’s kind of dangerous to be out at night like this.” She moved towards the kitten with the bright green eyes forgetting her fear of the shadows. “Don’t be afraid, I'm not going to hurt you.” She says as the kitten backs further in to the darkness. Suddenly there is a green flash as the kitten bites Fluttershy and turns back in to its regular Changeling form before converting itself in to an exact copy of her. Fluttershy’s limp frame glows green for a moment as it is encased and then transported away. The false Fluttershy quickly moves back to rejoin the rest of the ponies.
“Umm…hey could you, um, tell me what our plan is again if you don’t mind. I had to visit the little filly’s room. I'm terribly sorry, I should have tried to wait.” lied the false Fluttershy.
“You have not missed anything my quiet yellow pony I was just getting to that….”

“Excellent work! Now that we know what we are up against, it will be so easy to crush their plans! Begin the preparations. Also fetch me something to drink and maybe some cheesecake. I just know it will straight to my flank, but I am still going to have it.”
“Yes my Queen” said the Changelings in unison.
“It’s good to be the Queen”
Chrysalis walks through the door and sees herself sitting in her throne. “DISCORD! I already told you to not disguise yourself as me. You are so giving me an headache!"
“Fine, but I was rather enjoying be worshipped by your underlings.”
“What did I miss?”
“Oh my dear Queen, you missed absolutely nothing... nothing important anyway... well you might think it is important, I don't, Your underlings have just set off to thwart the meddlesome heroes’ plan to stop you.”
“Good, now we just need to sit back and relax until….” She watches as Discord changes his form “…I told you to stop making yourself look like my throne!”
“I'm not; I'm a much cooler version of your throne.” Thone Discord glows and becomes covered in glowing twinkle lights that spell out ‘Discord Rules’ in an array of colours. "I also feature a nice vibrating massage."
Chrysalis stares daggers at Discord.
Discord changes the lights to read Chrysalis Rules.
“Much better” she smiles.

Deep in the caves under Canterlot the bat-ponies sat chained. In the center of the room was a glowing lime green shell holding Princess Luna.
"We must warn my sister before it is too late." yelled Luna in the Royal Canterlot voice.
The bat-ponies redoubled their efforts to escape. Pulling on their chains with every ounce of strength trying to break them. Some attempting to saw through their chains on the sharp rocks. Suddenly one of the night-guards yelped in pain as his hoof cracks as he manages to pull his hoof through the restraint. He immediately takes to the air to avoid standing on it.
"My poor Captain, are you able to take a message to my Sister in your condition?"

The team hurries their way to Luna's royal chamber forcing their way through the night-guards that get in their way.
"My dear Sister, you must stop this madness, don't let Nightmare Moon control you again!"
"It is not Nightmare Moon who controls me, I control Nightmare Moon" she laughs menacingly.
"You can't get away with this Luna, we are here to stop you!" yelled Twilight over false Luna's laughter.
Luna's eyes and horn glowed green as she cast her crystallization spell. Everyone in the room save for the night-guards and the false Fluttershy were encased in clear green crystal prisons.
"Fluttershy, you must go get help!" said Twilight from within her crystal.
"I'm afraid I can't do that, I mean, if that is alright with you" she laughed. "How can I serve you now my Queen, I mean Princess" said the false Fluttershy to the disguised Chrysalis.

Discord was sitting restlessly in Luna's bedroom where Chrysalis had told him to stay while she was away foiling the plans of the foolish heroes. He then heard a soft and familiar sound coming from the next room. He tries the door, but it is locked. He then tries to teleport though but finds that it is magically shielded.
"There is something you don't want me to see Queenie? You should know that just makes me want to see it even more!" He stood there trying to figure out a way to open the door. Then it occurs to him, that he doesn't need to use that door, he can just make his own. He takes out a paint brush, draws a crude door on the wall and then opens it and walks in.
"Well! Well! What do we have here I wonder?" he listens in the dark to find the source of the sound. His powers seem to be failing him while he is in this room. He does not like the feeling of powerlessness and almost decides to stop his investigation until he recognizes the sound.
"Fluttershy? Fluttershy is that you?" Discord forgets being powerless and stumbles his way through the room. A faint green light is finally seen emanating from an old trunk. He tries to force it open but without his powers it proves challenging. He decides to just take the whole trunk with him. He slowly drags the trunk out of the barrier and snaps it open with his fingers. Inside he sees Fluttershy trapped in a green crystal. "Fluttershy, what has that mean lady done to you?" He snaps his fingers and transports Fluttershy out of the crystal.
"Discord, what are you doing here? Are you the one behind this?"
"Who me?" He dresses himself in a suit of armour and holds a shield with a crude painting of himself on it. "I'm your knight in shining armour! I saved you from the crystal."
"If it's not you, who is behind it?"
"That much should be obvious even to you. Green crystal, glowing green things in general?"
"You mean Chrysalis is back? Oh no, we have to warn the others!"
Then suddenly a wounded bat-pony of the Night-guard made his way through the window. His leg wound swollen to the point it constantly hurt.
"You poor dear" said Fluttershy sympathetically when she seen the injured bat-pony. "Can you do anything Discord?"
"Discord? He is helping Chrysalis! Quickly Fluttershy get out of here, I will holding off while you escape!"
"I'm not helping Chrysalis, I mean I was, it was all to be one wonderful prank, but then it got out of control, and she hurt Fluttershy. My only true friend! True Friends stick together and have each other's backs. Fluttershy and Discord's wings swap places. Discord flaps his newly acquired yellow wings. "Well I meant that in a more symbolic way." He restores their wings to the rightful owners. "Much better! Come now, Fluttershy, we still have time. We should go rescue Luna first, then we can work on helping the others."
The bat-pony winces.
"Oh very well, limpy here can come too." a quick flash of light engulfs the injured bat-pony's hoof and suddenly the swelling went down and the pain subsided.

"I am going to enjoy draining you Twilight Sparkle, after what you did to me and my children the last time we were visiting Canterlot... this is going to sweet."
"You won't get away with this!"
"Don't you see, I already have! Both your Princesses are powerless against me. Even the mighty Princess Twilight Sparkle can't stop me without her precious elements."
"She can't stop you, but I can!" said a blue mare dressed in a stary purple cloak and hat. "The Great and Powerful Trixie will stop you" She begins to cast a spell.
"Where did you even come from?"
"It matters not where Trixie came from, it only matters that Trixie is here now." Trixie stated with pride. She casts her spell and aims it squarely at Chrysalis.
Chrysalis covers her mouth with her hoof and yawns. The glowing bolt of magic flying towards her at a great speed. She takes a step to the left exposing a mirror that was behind her. The spell strikes the mirror and is reflected back at Trixie.
"The Great and Powerful Trixie did not see this coming" she said as the bolt strikes her, her mane singeing slightly before she is thrown from the room and out the main gate of the city. She lands in Appleoosa in a hay bail and passes out momentarily as her mane continues to smoulder.
"Howdy" says a smiling face that is hovering directly over her. "My name is Braeburn, what's yours friend?"

Princess Cadance looks up at the night sky. "I know that Luna wrote us and said that we were to expect there to be no moon for a few days while they recalibrate the ocean tides, but this is really eerie."
"Come back to bed dear" said Shining Armor. "It will be alright in the morning.
"Maybe we should go to Canterlot and see if we can help out."
"I'm sure Twily is all the help they need. Besides, I won the bet, which means you have to do something I want tonight"
Cadence smiled back at Shining Armor. "Should we use the bridle again?"

The bat-pony lands in front of the encased Luna. "I have returned with help as you commanded."
"Excellent, where is Twilight?"
"Um, I'm not Twilight and I don't know where she is, I hope that is alright." said Fluttershy softly.
"Fluttershy, we are pleased to see you but we are not sure how you can help us, you can not even use magic."
"She may not be magical, but I am" says one of Fluttershy's hairs in a male voice.
"Discord?"
"Oh how could you tell it was me? Girls and their mane styles, notice one hair out of place and you instantly know it is the God of Chaos to blame." he says as he floats to the floor and then expands back in to his normal form. He snaps his fingers and nothing happened. "The dampening field must be here too but I have a plan." Discord walks out of the cave and leaves.
"His plan was to abandon us?" said Luna from her prison.
"He wouldn't just abandon us would he? He's good now, he must be off doing something to help us!" said Fluttershy with a little confidence.
A little more than 20 minutes later, Discord returns. He is dressed all in black with a hood that appeared to have cat ears on it. He notices the puzzled looks on the faces of the ponies in the room. "I'm a cat burglar" he stated in the most serious tone he could muster. He pulls out a set of lockpicks and a bolt cutter. He moves over to one of the closer bat-ponies and begins to pick the lock binding him. The shackle pops open freeing the bat-pony. "Take these cutters and free your comrades." The two of them worked their way through the room freeing all the bat-ponies. "Now then, everypony take your shakles and wrap them around your Princess, let's airlift her out of her! Do try not to drop her, she will be rather cross if you do."
Slowly the encased Princess begins to rise up as the bat-ponies head for the exit. Once outside Discord is able to free her.
"First order of business, we must raise the Moon" said Luna as she begins to summon the Moon.
"No that will just alert Chrysalis."
"What must we do then?"
"I have a plan" said Discord as he looked up at the castle "I have a plan"

A whirring sound could be heard emanating from one of the green crystal shells in the throne room. Soon a crack forms and then the shell shatters. "That's all it took, just needed to find the right resonance frequency and ..."
"Resonawhat?" said Pinkie from her prison
"It doesn't matter, what matters now is that I get you all out of there"
"Not so fast strange one known as the Doctor" said Chrysalis.
"Oh right, forgot about you." said the Doctor.
Suddenly from the hallway burst in Princess Luna, Fluttershy and an army of Bat-ponies.
"Seize her!" commanded Luna.
"You really think you can stop me?"
More bat-ponies break through the windows and land behind Chrysalis.
"Well this is awkward" exclaimed Chrysalis "Luckily I too have an ally. Discord, Discord come out here and assist me at once."
"I'm afraid I can't do that Chrysalis" said a red glowing circle on the wall. "You hurt my friend." Discord says as he looks towards Fluttershy who is hiding behind Luna.
"That yellow pony is your friend?"
"Yes, she is my only true friend."
"But I am your friend too"
"You never let me have any fun. So bossy."
"There, that is the last one." said the Doctor as he freed the last crystal entrapped pony.
"Curses, you distracted me, well played. I still have my army of changelings! Come my faithful followers and aid your Queen in battle!"
Moments pass and nothing happens. "Odd, it's almost like they can't hear you." said the Doctor who was holding his glowing sonic screw driver.
"What have you done?"
"Nothing really, I just analysed the harmonic signature of your crystal cocoons and using my sonic screwdriver expanded the field to surround this room."
"Oh right, these belong to you." said Discord as he swaps the imitation Elements of Harmony for their real counter parts.
"Oh no, don't you blast me again" cried Chrysalis.
"Give us one good reason why we shouldn't" said Twilight as they began to get in formation.
"I'll call off my minions and we will leave. Just so you know you are killing us. We are starving for love. Had we been allowed to succeed we would have had enough love energy to sate us for a very long time."
"Have you considered not being evil, and being loved for kindness instead of cruelty?"
"No one loves us, we don't fit in."
"Pffftftpfpfffttff" said a voice from the T.A.R.D.I.S.
"What was that?" said Rariry.
"That's my travelling companion. I have no idea what her name is because I can't understand a word she says. The T.A.R.D.I.S. can't even translate her. But she is sweet to have around."
The pink fluffy pony walks out of the T.A.R.D.I.S. and towards Chrysalis. "Pffftftpfpfffttff"
"Ack get it away from me" cried Chrysalis
"Pffftftpfpfffttff"
"Wait, what are you doing?"
"Pffftftpfpfffttff" the pink fluffy pony says as she boops Chrysalis' nose.
"I think she likes you" said the Doctor.
The pink fluffy pony begins rubbing up next to Chrysalis and purring. Giving a quick lick to one of the holes in Chrysalis's leg. Chrysalis blushes.
"Why don't you come stay at my Library in Ponyville" said Twilight. "Maybe you can be reformed too just like Discord and become out friend."
"You want to be my friend? I never considered that said Chrysalis."
"Pffftftpfpfffttff"
"Yes you can stay at the Library too"
"Pffftftpfpfffttff!"
Celestia looked at the time, and began to raise the Sun for the start of the new day. The ponies of Equestria had no idea what almost happened. Cadence and Shining Armor were resting after playing their special game with the bridal through most of the night. Trixie and Braeburn were having peanut butter crackers with apple jelly on the side. Pinkie never did get to throw that party. The Doctor once again alone set out to explore the Universe. Zecora nor the Cutie Mark Crusaders appeared in this fanfic.
