Love Is in Bloom

The Prince Plays Cupid

It’s a bright and sunny day in Ponyville. And it’s the most “lovely” day of the year, Hearts and Hooves Day! The school fillies are giving gifts to their school yard colt crushes, and the stallions and mares are spending the day with their special someponies. Everypony in Ponyville was enjoying the day, all except Dragonbeat. Dragonbeat was single, so he doesn’t have a special somepony to celebrate with.

Dragonbeat was sitting under a tree, sulking. He always hated today because he was always single. His best friend, Flare, flew over and saw his expression. "What's wrong buddy?" He asked.

Flare could tell Dragonbeat was down, they were practically brothers. Dragonbeat looked up.

"It's Hearts and Hooves day, and I'm single! Everypony else has a special somepony! You even have Paw Print. I never have a special somepony. It's not fair!" Dragonbeat said sadly. Flare saw Dragonbeat's eyes begin to tear up. He felt the pain Dragonbeat felt. Flare knew what he had to do.

“It’s time for Cupid Flare to get to work.” He said.

Dragonbeat looked up and dried his eyes. Flare was going to try to play cupid again. Flare had a knack for playing cupid ever since he was little, and he wasn't that bad at it. Almost every couple Flare made worked out it the end. “Are you serious?” Dragonbeat asked.
Flare looked down and smiled. “Yeah I’m serious.” Flare said. Flare picked his saddened friend up. “It’s time to find you a marefriend.”

Flare and Dragonbeat flew all around town, looking for a mare for Dragonbeat. They saw many mares Pegasi, unicorn, and earth ponies alike. They landed and tried everymare Dragonbeat liked. No pony seemed to be right for him, and he thought even Trixie would work. And the ponies that would work out for him were either already taken or.... didn't "trot that way." It was harder than Flare expected.

“Wow, are you sure you can help me Flare?” Dragonbeat asked. He was starting to become discouraged.

Flare had a frustrated look on his face. He was just about to give up, when he had an idea. “Oh don’t worry. I’ve got one last trick hidden in my feathers.” He said.
"But Flare, we tried everypony! It's not going to work." Dragonbeat said hopelessly.
Flare turned to Dragonbeat and looked him dead in the eyes, "Listen buddy, I will not give up. I'm your best friend and I refuse to give up on you. So don't you give up on me." Flare said with confidence. Dragonbeat looked into Flare’s eyes and saw the fires of determination. That was normal for Flare.

Dragonbeat nodded. Flare smiled.

"Stay here, I'll be back soon"
Dragonbeat obeyed and Flare flew off.
An hour went by and Dragonbeat was still standing, waiting on Flare. Dragonbeat started to worry. Did his best friend give up on him? Did Flare abandon him? Dragonbeat lowered his head and began to tear up. Suddenly, he heard wings flapping. He lifted his head and saw Flare flying down with a blue pegasus with a brown mane and tail, and three suns as a cutiemark. The young mare followed Flare to where he told Dragonbeat to wait. When she landed, she saw Dragonbeat and it was love at first sight.

“You miss me?” Flare asked, sarcastically. Dragonbeat dried his eyes. His best friend didn't abandon him.

“You said he was cute, but you didn’t say he was sensitive too. I like sensitive stallions.” The brown maned mare said. Dragonbeat tilted his head in confusion.

“So, who is she, Flare?” Dragonbeat asked. Flare chuckled and rose his hoof to his side.

“This is Dusk Sparks, but everypony calls her Dusk. She works over at Ponyville Post office. And she is the pony that reminds me most of you.” Flare said. Dusk smiled and winked at Dragonbeat. She was blushing at him. Dragonbeat started blushing too.

“She is single too. And just like you, she’s been single for a long time. All you have to do is ask her.” He added.

Dragonbeat stepped forward and opened his mouth. “Dusk, will you be my very special somepony?” He asked.

Dusk giggled. “Yes, I will.” She replied.

Dragonbeat smiled and looked at Flare with gratitude. Then, he turned back at Dusk and pulled her into a passionate kiss. Dragonbeat wanted to enjoy the embrace of his new marefriend, so he gave his kiss all he had. Dusk, enjoying the feeling of love her new coltfriend was giving her, kissed him back. Both ponies were kissing each other and moaning in pleasure.

Flare looked at the new couple and grinned, he knew he did a good job. He turned around, opened his wings and flew away. Before flying out of sight, Flare gave his usual way of saying goodbye, he lifted his hoof to his forehead and moved it away as if to salute. Then, he rocketed away to leave the two lovebirds alone. He gagged as soon as he was out of sight, pairing ponies together was no problem to him. But when they kissed in front of him, it was too much.

He then realized he spent all day helping his friend, and missed out on enjoying Hearts and Hooves Day himself. He shrugged it off, knowing he did the right thing.

When Flare landed, he was at his doorstep. He opened the door and walked into his house. “I wonder if Paw Print will forgive me if she knew I was playing cupid again.” He said. When he opened the door to his bedroom, he saw his marefriend laying on the bed waiting for him. The sight of Paw Print wearing her pink and black socks made Flare very excited, his wings popped up beyond his control.

“Are you ready for your Hearts and Hooves Day present?” Paw Print asked, her voice singsong like.
Flare smirked and knew what he was in for.

“Oh, I’m ready. Even cupid gets love.” He said. Flare closed the door behind him and locked it. And everypony had a great time that day.
