//------------------------------// // Prologue // Story: The sun doesn't always smile // by AR3I0 //------------------------------// The sun doesn’t always smile Prologue My name is Sunny Smiles and this is my story. Life for me in Fillydelphia was amazing, my mother and I used to go shopping and I used to help her bring it back home. I used to go flight practise with Dad and he would always show me the best techniques to use. But my family was not normal, no they were not. My parents were demon hunters. My mother and father were Paladins of the light and for that reason my life was cursed with a blessing. On my 7th birthday I was taken to Wonderbolts performance. The show was amazing, the graceful loops and the elegant tricks captivated my eyes and my mind told me that this was a day to remember. If I only knew the irony behind those thoughts. On the journey back to home the car started to shake. Father’s eyes widened in fear as he realised what was happening. The car started to shake and swerve on its own account. I started to wail. Mother hugged me tight saying “Everything’s going to be alright sweetie don’t you worry, don’t cry shhh”. The car going at high speed smashed into a lamp post splitting it in half and causing a domino effect which made all the surrounding electricity pylons and other lamp posts to come tumbling down after. The car was totalled and the smell of gas was in the air. Mother’s hind hooves were stuck under the seats and were brutally crushed. “Mommy” I cried “are you okay?” “I’m fine buttercup go check on Daddy okay” I could tell she was lying as tears rolled freely upon her face but I still did as she said and went to check up upon father. When I scrambled up to father in the drivers seat, I got see that his wings were severely mangled and were probably never again be capable of flight. As I nudged him with my hoof his eyes stirred open. He noticed me and croaked out “Hey champ how are ya” I couldn’t say any words over the feeling of horror, fear and pure sorrow I was experiencing so all I could do was nod. “Hey now it’s alright, you’re a grown stallion now and ...” He never finished his sentence. His eyes were wide open and in shock. It was then I realised the jet black tendril sticking from his chest. It glowed an unhealthy shade of purple and mist seemed to emanate of it. I couldn’t breathe as I saw my father die before my very eyes. When my mother from behind saw this tendril in my father she pulled me next to her and said in a tone of fear “My little star, you are the most important thing to me and I love you dearly but the darkness is here and you must run”. She nuzzled me and continued to say “Run dear Sunny run and don’t ever look back”. I stood eyes wide as my mother told me to leave her “RUN”, and that’s what I did, I ran. As I got farther and farther away I looked back to see a shadow of pony with wings and claws large as car doors. Then all I saw was a bright light and felt the hungry licks of flame. *1 ½ hours later* As I opened my eyes the thought that came through my mind was my parents “DADDY, MOMMY” “Whoa calm down kid” As I calmed down I looked around to see I wasn’t in the road anymore but the clean white room of a hospital. “Where are Mommy and Daddy?” The officer standing next to me was clearly reluctant to answer this question. “Well ... um I don’t know how to break this to you kid but... they’re in a better place now” I was saddened to remember the horror of last night but all my energy had been drained from the crash and I had no clear negative reaction. The officer was surprised not to see me bawl my eyes out and decided to continue speaking “They died from the explosion”. I had been facing away at this time from not wanting to hear the report but the mention of them being killed solely by the explosion made me angry. “MY PARENTS WERE KILLED BY DEMONS” I yelled at the officer unleashing all my pain and suffering upon him. The officer was clearly taken aback by this but he looked at me and the look was not one of anger from the outburst or of mocking from the statement but one of pity. He looked at me and pitied me. He felt sorry for the death of my parents but most of all he felt sorry for my mind. “Look kid, I know this must be hard for you but it was just an explosion that killed them and nothing more”. The officer opened the door and just as he went outside he turned and said “I’ll be outside if you need anything” he pulled the door and shut it, but the door was faulty and opened just enough to let me hear his conversation with his commanding officer. “The kid is nuts sir; he thinks that demons killed his parents” “He is just in shock, he will get better” “Sir have we found any family members” “One, his uncle, Solar Smiles” I had heard this and I felt slightly relieved. Uncle Solar was a nice person and it would be nice living with him. I felt tired and soon let the sweet bliss of nothingness take me.
