Arrival

"See you later, Spike!" A purple mare named Twilight Sparkle yells down from her study.

A small purple and green dragon smiles as he is about to exit his and the mares’ library/home. "I'll be back soon after these errands, Twilight!"

As soon as he closes the door, he lets out a big sigh. He is actually excited to get out the library for a little while, but also a little disappointed because he has to run quite a few errands, instead of having some time for himself.

He looks up in the sky and notices that it's quite a nice day. A cool breeze, no clouds in sight, and the sun is shining brightly. He enjoys days like this and wishes he could have more time to enjoy them.

It's days like this that I wish I could fly. Then I'd be able to get these errands done much faster. He thought to himself.

Over the 3 years he spent in Ponyville, Spike didn't grow as much as he thought he would have. From the day he first came and now, he barely makes it to Twilight's muzzle level. Not much else besides his height has changed at all. Plus there were no signs of him developing wings. He is starting to think he wouldn't ever acquire any, but he banishes that thought quickly.

"I will get them soon enough! Just gotta be patient..." He says with determination.

After a moment, he sighs. "Oh well. Might as well start these errands. First I should stop by the market and grab some groceries. The fridge is running low and I nee-"

"Hiya Spike!"

“Aaah!”

Seemingly out of nowhere, a pink pony with a raspberry mane pokes her head out from under him making the dragon jump up practically 5 feet and land on his rear.

"Pinkie! What gives? You almost gave me a heart attack!" Spike says while still grasping his chest.

Pinkie Pie frowns slightly. "Oopsie. Sorry Spike. Nice jump though. Although the landing could use a little work, hehe." She says while giggling.

"Yeah, sure whatever..." He mumbles while dusting himself off. "So, is there something you want?"

Pinkie perks up. "Oh! I was just walking by and I saw you standing there completely zoned out staring at the sky! I thought you were looking at something so I decided to look up too! But all I saw was the sky and sun! Though I didn't look at the sun too long because that would start to hurt and when I looked at you again you were looking at the ground! So I hopped over and tried to see what you were looking at that time but all I saw was the grass and dirt. So I dec-"

Spike plugs her maw with his claws quickly. "Not that I don't enjoy your....rants, but I really need to go get some errands done Pinkie." He says, trying to stop her before she talks his ears off.

Pinkie moves his claw and looks at him curiously. "Errands? What kind of errands? Oh! Does any involve sweets? Because we can go get some and I can make your favorite sapphire cupcake! I earned some gems for a tip from some ponies."

Hearing 'sapphire cake' immediately snaps Spike to attention and he likes the idea. "Well, I do have to go to the market for groceries. I suppose a stop to the Cakes shop wouldn't be too out of the way..." He says in mock thought before nodding. "Sure Pinkie."

Pinkie claps her forehooves excitedly. "Great! Oh! But first I have to talk to Twilight. Is she in there?" Pinkie asks, pointing towards the library.

"Yeah, she is." Spike replies while shaking his head and closing his eyes. "But it might be a little hard to...Pinkie?"

Spike opens his eyes to find out Pinkie isn’t there. He hears a door close from behind him.

He blinks. "How did...you know what? Forget it. No point in trying to understand that pony."

And with that, he starts into town to take care of his errands.

The train station at Ponyville is quiet except for two ponies conversing. The silence is broken however as the train approaching from Canterlot comes close. The two ponies gather their belongings and wait patiently for it as it comes close. The rails make a large screeching noise before the train comes to a complete stop in front of them. A large horn sounds and the train doors open soon after, allowing the passengers to exit the train. The two mares outside wait patiently for the others to finish exiting the train, waving to all the familiar faces as they pass them going towards the town.

There is one pony however, the last one to exit that they have never seen before and become slightly intrigued by his appearance. The pony is a pegasus with a mane and tail that is a solid blue, the color of a sapphire. His eyes are the same color as his mane and tail, but that isn’t what catches their eye. Instead, it's his coat; which is a solid black. They also notice his cutie mark, or lack thereof, surprising the two. They only know of young ponies without their cutie marks, but this stallion looks much older.

As they are pondering this, the pony notices the two ponies looking at him and proceeds to walk towards them.

"Um...excuse me?" The black pegasus says in a soft tone rather nervously.

"Yes? May I help you with something?" One of the mares says with a smile while still examining him. This mare has an aquamarine coat, her grayish cyan mane having white highlights in them.

"I know this might be a weird question to ask but...what town is this? I was napping and didn't hear what the intercom said.” He says rubbing his mane in embarrassment.

The two mares stare blankly at the pegasus before giggling.. They couldn't understand how he did not know where he was. After all, the train only goes to Canterlot and back.

"Well, this here is Ponyville." Says the other mare with a light tan coat. Her mane is a moderate cobalt and light fuchsia combination that bounces slightly as she speaks.

The horn on the train sounds off before the pegasus has a chance to reply and he jumps slightly.

"Oh! I'm sorry for keeping you two. I guess you have to catch that train huh?" He says as he points towards the train.

The mares nod. "Yeah, we'd better go before it leaves us. But before we do, can I ask why you came here? Just curious." Asks the aquamarine mare.

The pegasus seems to hesitate before answering. "Well...no apparent reason. Just a change of scenery I guess. Want some quiet time, ya know?"

"I highly doubt you will find that here." She says with a smirk.

"Yeah, just make sure to watch for a certain ‘pink’ pony." Said the other mare stifling a giggle.

"Oh...um, okay. Well it was nice meeting you two. Have a good trip!" The pegasus says with a warm smile and wave.

"Thanks!" The mares say simultaneously while entering the train.

Moments later the train's horn sounds once more before it departs, heading back to Canterlot, soon too far to see.

"I hope everyone else in this town is as nice as those two..." The black pegasus says once the train is out of sight. “Though, I wonder what they meant by pink pony..."

He shrugs. "Oh well. I guess I'll find out soon enough." Says the mysterious pony known as Dark Sapphire before he heads away from the train station.
