//------------------------------// // Dinner time // Story: Rainbow Dash the Sports Star // by Diablomuerte2 //------------------------------// Dinner time Sunset Shimmer was waiting patiently for Celestia to show up and retrieve the cake, so she could take pictures of the event and use them for blackmail. She had been chatting away with Pinkie Pie in order to maintain the veil that she was there to hang out. With someone entering the shop she got excited until she noticed it was some weird silver haired girl. Pinkie Pie immediately froze up and began frowning. "Welcome to Sugar Cube Corner, is there something you ordered?" Sunset noticed how different Pinkie’s voice sounded, and something inside of her stirred. The girl looked over and scoffed condescendingly before running a hand through her own hair. "Why would I order something from this dump. I am here because Rainbow Dash isn't answering her phone, and you usually know where she is." Pinkie sighed. "I don't know where Rainbow Dash is Gilda... I can't help you find-" "Don't give me excuses lame brain. I can tell you're lying now spill!" Gilda snapped. Sunset Shimmer would have eaten this up, but with Pinkie being nice, it wasn't as fun to see. "Look Pinkie says she doesn't know, so she doesn't know." Gilda chuckled. "Who is the flame-haired freak?" Sunset got enraged. "I'm Sunset Shimmer, and if you know what's good for you, you will leave Pinkie alone." Gilda laughed. "Who? Oh that girl Dash told me about that was too chicken to bully her. Unlike Rainbow Dash I do believe in violence solving every problem. So you better watch yourself." Mrs. Cake came to the front of the store after hearing the noises. "Hello, is there anything I can help you with?" Gilda looked over, faked a smile and gentle tone. "No I was just browsing. Lovely shop you have here, I will be going now." She left the shop with anger pouring from her. Pinkie Pie smiled and hugged Sunset. "Thank you..." Sunset groaned. "Get off of me... and you're welcome." Pinkie beamed. "Sunset, since we are hanging out, want to stay for dinner?" Sunset wanted to see Celestia order the cake and if she was staying till dinner it would make her cover story more believable. Part of her didn't want to admit that, she was also staying to ensure that silver haired freak didn't return. ____________________________________________________________ Rainbow Dash had never felt so tired in her life. "Whoa... this is a lot of work Shy, how do you manage all this stuff?" Fluttershy chuckled. "I don't see it as work, that's why, Dashie." Rainbow Dash noticed the time and sighed. "It's getting late, and I am getting hungry. Say want to get some grub together?" Fluttershy frowned. "I don't really have money to spend, but it's okay you can go eat." Rainbow Dash kissed her cheek gently. "Nonsense I can pay for both of us." Fluttershy blushed and waved her arms. "But I don't want you spending your money like that. Oh wait I have an idea! I can make us a nice nutritious dinner and we can watch a movie together." Rainbow Dash became enthused. "Sounds awesome. Just I need to take a quick shower so how about you go home with your mom today, and I will meet you, at your place, as soon as I clean and get changed." "Oh, oh my... this will be so exciting," Fluttershy said with glee. She hugged Rainbow Dash and planted a soft kiss on her lips. Rainbow Dash returned the kiss and held it for a moment. After the kiss ended Rainbow Dash spoke. "Well, it seems we have something to tell your mother at dinner, don't we." Fluttershy blushed from the passionate kiss and nodded softly. "We sure do... well let's get ready to go, you're getting all stinky." She laughed cutely. "We don't have to go right away," Rainbow Dash said before kissing Fluttershy softly. Fluttershy had to agree with Rainbow Dash on that. ___________________________________________________________ When dinner time rolled around Rarity and Applejack had been dressed, groomed, and looking fabulous. "This night is going to be great, Darling." Rarity was at a table sitting in front of Applejack and waiting to order. "Why you say that, sugar cube?" "Because it's true. We are going to have a nice relaxing meal, and then if we have time maybe we can do something else." "Wait... why something else? The deal was for dinner, this is dinner." Rarity giggled softly. "No seriously, Rarity, we agreed on just dinner... this ain't a date." "Why does it have to be a date, in order for us to hang out more? Applejack sighed. "What do ya have in mind, Rarity?" Rarity pouted and whined, "Never mind, it seems I'm not good enough company." Applejack placed her hands on Rarity's gently. "Don't ya go saying that, Rarity, ya know why I'm nervous about all this." Rarity softened and gazed deeply into Applejack's eyes. "I know... but can we at least have fun tonight and forget all that?" "Sure we can, sugar cube, we can have a grand ole time." Just then, the waiter arrived and began asking them if they were ready to order. He noticed their hands were touching and mistook the situation. "May I suggest the couple's special. It's a meal that is meant to enhance the-" "Whoa there Nelly! This ain't a date, and we ain't a couple," Applejack corrected. ____________________________________________________________ Rainbow Dash was on her way to Fluttershy's house when her phone started buzzing. She had forgotten to check the device, and all the missed calls and texts, after exiting the animal shelter. "Whoops!" she blurted in embarrassment. She checked the texts and they were mostly from Gilda. "Oh great... why now? Of all times for her to be around." Rainbow Dash noticed the other calls and texts were still numerous, even discounting Gilda's. "Darn, it seems spending those hours away from my phone wasn't a smart move... being captain of all the sport teams I should have expected this." She spent the rest of the walk responding to missed calls and texts, it was the least she could do. ____________________________________________________________ Sunset Shimmer had the chance of a lifetime to blackmail Pinkie and Celestia both and she blew it. She had the camera lined up and the phone's key ready to be pressed. Though something stopped her and she missed the fleeting moment. It was weighing on her mind heavily. Why didn't I just do it... why did I hesitate? Am I starting to like Pinkie as a friend? No... I can't start liking her as a friend... just calm down and the opportunity will present itself again. Pinkie was eating another slice of cheese pizza and wasn't paying attention to Sunset's mood swings. "Pizza is so yummy!" Sunset chuckled. "Yeah it is... hey thanks again for springing for the food, I will get it next time." Wait I just said what? Pinkie beamed. "You mean, you actually want to hang out again?" Sunset was determined to say no. "Yeah." Traitor! Pinkie Pie went silent. Not the quiet enjoyable kind of silent, instead it was the "this is too good to be true" silent. Sunset could tell there was a question coming. "Pinkie what is it?" Pinkie Pie shed a tear and began shaking. "Why am I so stupid?" Sunset was genuinely confused. "What?" Pinkie sadly smiled. "I saw you earlier, with the phone out. I know what you were doing... still I ordered the pizza and am eating with you." Sunset felt an emotion that resembled guilt. "Oh... well I didn't do it." Pinkie sobbed. "That isn't the point! I thought you wanted to hang out today... and all you wanted was a chance to use me." Sunset wanted to bail and get out while she could. "Yes... I did. I wanted to use you. I just don't think I can be a nice person and you're trying so hard that I thought, if I did something horrible, you wouldn't try so hard." Pinkie wiped her own tears away. "Well you have succeeded. I no longer wish to try and make you a friend. I won't even bother you anymore." Sunset's mind began dancing wildly with thoughts. Emotions rolled through her like a rogue wheel. "Wait! I don't want you to give up... I said I did. I wanted to use you... but then, I realized... never mind I am going." She got up to leave and felt a hand on hers. Pinkie Pie looked into her eyes. "If you want to really be my friend then stay, if you rather we just stop trying then go." Sunset sat back down and smiled. "Your funeral." ____________________________________________________________ Fluttershy was so nervous that she was fumbling with everything. "Salad fork goes here... no wait here... oh wait..." Her mother noticed how shaky and skittish Fluttershy was being tonight. "Fluttershy, what's going on my dear?" Fluttershy was on the verge of breaking down. "Well I just want dinner to go well. Rainbow Dash went to the animal shelter with me and really helped. I just want to show her how much that meant to me... and how much she means to me." Fluttershy's mom was putting the pieces together in her head. "Rainbow Dash, I haven't heard that name being used in such way since before you two stopped being attached at the hip." Fluttershy blushed. "Well... you see..." "Don't worry my dearest, Fluttershy, I knew this would one day happen. You shouldn't be ashamed of it either," The pink haired woman said gently. "Plus at least Rainbow Dash can't get you pregnant so that's always a plus," she joked. Fluttershy's face became bright red and she ran off to the kitchen. When the door knocked the playful mother decided to get the door while Fluttershy had time to recover. She opened the door and saw Rainbow Dash dressed nicely. "Well long time no see Rainbow Dash. Before I invite you in, I must ask this as a mother..." she paused for dramatic effect. "What are your intentions with my daughter." Rainbow Dash gulped. "I have nothing but good intentions, I swear!" The woman laughed playfully. "Oh relax Rainbow Dash, it's good that you two are dating. Sure it isn't ideal but, better you than some horn dog wanting to use my daughter." "So can I come in?" Rainbow Dash asked with a blush. "Yes, now relax, I know you're a good girl and that you really care for Fluttershy. I just hope you don't pull a stunt like you did before. I don't like seeing my daughter sad." "Trust me, I will never hurt Fluttershy like that again. I ... care about her a lot." "I know you do. Because if you didn't this would be a different conversation. Now enough scary mother talk, lets get some food. Fluttershy worked really hard on her salad. " ____________________________________________________________ Rarity was going on about some random thing, making Applejack regret making a deal. She was alright with taking Rarity in doses, too much and it would drive her crazy. "Look Rarity, I think after this dinner I'm going to bed early." Rarity was stunned and tried hiding the hurt. "Oh... okay... it's understandable you work really hard on that farm." Applejack looked away. "Yeah... that's it... the farm got me all tired." Rarity puffed her cheeks in anger before ranting. "You know what Applejack, you're the worst friend ever. I spend my entire afternoon helping you get ready for a night of fun, and this is how you repay me? I thought we could have a nice night as friends, but you're so afraid of being even intimately seen with another girl, it's pathetic." The people who overheard the outburst all turned to the cause of the disturbance and watched the drama unfold. "Rarity, can we talk about this in private?" Applejack asked in a calm manner. Rarity chuckled. "No, never mind. This dinner is over, I'm going to go home. You can enjoy the rest of this meal alone." She started walking out until Applejack grabbed her hand gently and pulled her close. Applejack was face to face with Rarity. "It's late and we aren't in the nicest part of town. Ya can hate me all ya want... but not until I walk ya home. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if anything happened to ya." Rarity blushed while leaning in with grace and subtle movement, and kissed Applejack on the lips softly. "Thanks..." Applejack was stunned for a minute. "Check please..." she softly called out. The crowd went back to their own meals and took a cute story about teenagers in love from the experience.
