The morning sun began to rise in the horizon and started to bathe Ponyville in a warm and bright glow. Fluttershy slept in her bed soundly with Lightning Twister snuggled up next her. A few minutes later, a knock on the front door woke Fluttershy out of her peaceful sleep. Without hurting or waking him, she picked up Lightning, got out of the bed, and gently set her son back in the bed. She quickly tucked him and gave him a kiss on the forehead before flying downstairs to answer the door.
When she opened the door, Fluttershy was greeted by all of her friends.
"Howdy, Fluttershy." Applejack said happily Before Pinkie bounced in front of her with her party canon.
Pinkie was about to start screaming but she saw Fluttershy give her a look telling her that Lightning was still asleep and now was not a good time to start making noise. Pinkie immediately put her own hooves over her mouth to silence herself. Fluttershy softly smiled and giggled at Pinkie before allowing her friends in. The five stepped into the house and went into the living room as Fluttershy stayed behind them. They all looked at Fluttershy and began speaking in tone that was loud enough for them to hear each other but quiet enough to not wake Lightning.
"Fluttershy darling," Rarity said "I finished your gift for Lightning and I just know it will be his favorite gift out of all of ours. I will wrap it and bring it to the party for you."
Fluttershy nodded as Twilight spoke up.
"I invited Spike to the party and I found out that Princess Cadence and Shining Armor are visiting for a few days." she said calmly and quietly. "I've told them all about Lightning Twister and they are excited to finally meet him. Princess Celestia and Princess Luna have also provided us with rooms for the night just in case it get's too late."
Fluttershy simply smiled as Rainbow Dash began to quietly express her excitement about tonight.
"Aw yeah, I can't wait to show Lightning the sonic rainboom." She said happily "Pinkie and I came up with an awesome idea last night but I'm not going to say what it is."
Pinkie was giggling happily as she thought of the special surprise for her nephew.
"I asked Applebloom and her friends to come too since they are Lightning's friends." Applejack said while smiling.
Words could not express how happy Fluttershy was right now. Every one of her friends were going way out of their way to make tonight a night for Lightning to always remember.
"Thank you all so much everypony! I can't even begin to think about how happy Lightning will be when he finds finds how much you all have done!" Fluttershy said happily
"Fluttershy, I think your counting yourself out." Rainbow said as she put a hoof on Fluttershy's shoulder and smiled at her.
Fluttershy gave her a look on confusion as Twilight trotted up to her and smiled.
"You've done the most for Lightning out of all of us." she said "You gave him a home, you made him your son, you have shown him more love and compassion than anypony else here. We love Lightning with all of our hearts but he does not love anypony else more than you."
Fluttershy felt tears roll down her eyes and she wrapped Twilight in loving sisterly hug.
"Thank you so much, Twilight." she said sweetly
Twilight smiled and wrapped her forelegs around Fluttershy.
"Your welcome, Fluttershy." Twilight said gently "I better get back to the library. I'll meet you at the train station tonight."
Fluttershy nodded as Twilight left her cottage. Everyone else followed her out the door so they could go to their homes. Applejack was the last one to leave but before she did, she turned around and faced Fluttershy.
"I'll bring granny smith's old wheelchair to you tonight Fluttershy, see you then." she said gently.
Fluttershy simply nodded her head and Applejack left the cottage. With all of her friends gone, Fluttershy closed the door and went into the kitchen to make Lightning a special breakfast. When she finished she went upstairs to wake her sleeping son.
Entering her bedroom, Fluttershy went over to Lightning and gently kissed him on the cheek.
"Lightning, It's time to wake up, sweetheart." she said softly
Lightning opened his eyes and rubbed them with his little hooves. he looked at his mother and wrapped his forelegs around her neck.
"Good morning, Momma." Lightning said softly.
"Good morning sweetie, happy birthday." Fluttershy replied sweetly.
Lightning smiled at his mother and said, "Thank you, Momma."
"Your welcome, sweetheart," Fluttershy replied with a smile on her face. "Now, let's give you your medicine then go downstairs. I made a special breakfast for you."
Lightning nodded his head and Fluttershy went to the bathroom to grab his pills and a glass of water. When she returned she handed the glass to Lightning and a small blue pill. Lightning let out a sigh and quickly swallowed the pill and drank the water. After letting out a few small coughs, Lightning looked into his mothers loving and caring eyes.
"Alright sweetie, now that you've had your medicine, let's go downstairs and have some breakfast."
Fluttershy gently picked up Lightning without hurting his broken leg and held him close to her. She then flew downstairs as Lightning held on to his mothers neck. When they arrived at the kitchen Lightning saw his breakfast and smiled. On a plate was a stack of delicious pancakes that had whipped cream on the top as well as a few sliced strawberry's.
"Is this my breakfast, Momma?" Lightning asked curiously
Fluttershy giggled and said, "yes it is sweetheart. I wanted to make you a special birthday breakfast."
Fluttershy gently set Lightning into one of the chairs and Lightning began to eat his delicious breakfast. After he was finished, Fluttershy took the plate and put it into the sink before returning to her son's side. When she looked at him she began to giggle. Lightning had a patch of whipped cream underneath his lips. Fluttershy continued giggling as she took a napkin and wiped his face.
"Thank you for my delicious breakfast, Momma." Lightning said happily
Fluttershy smiled at her son and nuzzled his cheek lovingly in response. Lightning wrapped his hooves around Fluttershy's neck and laid his head against her chest. The two stayed like that for a few minutes until Fluttershy spoke up.
"Okay sweetie, Let's go into the living and change your bandages." she said sweetly before gently picking up her son.
Fluttershy placed Lightning on the couch and went upstairs to the bathroom to get the bandages. When she returned, she carefully unwrapped the old bandages and replaced them with fresh one while she hummed a happy tune. Lightning cringed a few times at the pain in his leg but his mothers beautiful voice helped keep him calm. When she finished, Fluttershy gently set his leg back on the couch and helped him sit up. Once he was comfortable, Fluttershy went over to one of the bookshelves and picked out a Daring Do book that Rainbow Dash gave to her.
"Would you like me to read you a story for little while, Lightning?" Fluttershy asked her son gently. "Rainbow Dash has told me all about these books and she gave me some because she thought you might like them."
Lightning stared at the book for a moment and nodded his head. Fluttershy smiled at him and flew over to the couch. She sat down beside Lightning and opened the book. Lightning snuggled into his mother's side as she wrapped a foreleg around his body and held him close. Both of them smiled at each other until Fluttershy began to read to Lightning.
A few hours had passed and Fluttershy was halfway through the book. She looked up at the clock and saw what time it was. She closed the book and put it on the table in front of her. Lightning looked at her and gave her an unhappy look.
"Aw, do we have to stop, Momma?" Lightning asked, as he was greatly enjoying the story.
Fluttershy giggled and nuzzled Lightning before saying, "Yes we do sweetheart. Don't worry, i'll read you the rest of the book tonight as a bedtime story. Besides your aunties and I want to take you somewhere very special."
Lightning looked at Fluttershy curiously.
"Don't worry sweetheart, you'll see where we're going soon enough." Fluttershy said sweetly before giving Lightning a gentle hug. "Now let's go see your, Auntie Twilight."
Lightning nodded his head as Fluttershy gently set him on her back without hurting him. Lightning held onto his mother's neck as she flew out of the cottage and made her way towards Ponyville. After arriving at the town square, Fluttershy stopped where she was when she heard the voice if a young filly calling out to her. Turning around, the two saw Silver Spoon heading their way with a brown paper bag and a card in her mouth.
"Hi Miss Fluttershy, hi Lightning." Silver said happily when she arrived.
"Hi, Silver Spoon." Lightning replied.
Silver trotted around Fluttershy and saw Lightning's broken leg. She gave him a sad smile as she remembered Miss Cheerilee telling her and the class that Lightning had broken his leg and would be out for a few weeks. Since then, she wanted to do something to help Lightning and Fluttershy and that's why she was here now. Looking at Fluttershy, Silver gave her the bag she had in her mouth. Fluttershy gasped in shock when she saw what was inside, it was a bagful of bits.
"W-what's this, Silver?" Fluttershy stammered
Silver Spoon drew circles in the ground with her hoof as she answered Fluttershy's question.
"Well, Miss Cheerilee told me and the class that Lightning had broken his leg. I felt bad that Lightning got hurt and I wanted to so something for him and for you. So I asked my Daddy if I could give you some bits to help you take care of Lightning until he got better. I hope you don't mind."
Fluttershy couldn't help but smile as she listened to silver.
"I also felt like I owe Lightning since I couldn't help him during the incident with Diamond Tiara." Silver said as she looked at the ground in sadness.
After hearing those last words, Fluttershy pulled the little filly into soft and loving embrace. She gently rubbed up and down her back as Silver just closed her eyes and smiled.
"Silver, I thank you for the bits." Fluttershy said gently and happily, "and please stop blaming yourself for what happened with that awful Diamond Tiara. It was not your fault. You are a very sweet and caring little filly and I know your going to grow up into a wonderful young mare."
Silver couldn't help but hug Fluttershy. The two stayed like that with Lightning watching on with a smile on his face.
After a moment silver handed the card she had to Lightning while saying, "here Lightning, The Cutie Mark Crusaders told me that it was your birthday today so I made you this."
Lightning opened the card and smiled once more when he saw what was written in beautiful cursive handwriting.
Happy birthday, Lightning! I hope you feel better soon!

"Thank you, Silver Spoon." Lightning said happily.
"Your welcome Lightning. I cant wait to see you in school again. Miss Cheerilee and everyone else misses you, and so do I" Silver said gently.
Lightning was at a lost for words. He can't believe that the other colts and fillies miss him. He remembers at his old school he was teased, tormented, and beaten by other colts and fillies at his old school. They would shove him into lockers. dump water on him and constantly scare him to the point where he would cry and cause his tormenting to become even worse. However the students at this school actually wanted to know him and try to be his friend.
"Thank you for letting me know that, Silver Spoon." Lightning finally replied.
"Your welcome, Lightning, I'll see you later and happy birthday!" Silver shouted as she left the mother and son.
Lightning stared at the card and remembered the special breakfast Fluttershy made for him earlier. They were both the first wonderful things he had ever gotten for his birthday. Tears of happiness formed in Lightnings eyes as he hugged Fluttershy's neck.
Fluttershy looked at her son and gave him a gentle smile.
"Momma," Lightning began, "This has been the best birthday ever!"
Fluttershy gently took her son off her back and held him in a tender and loving hug.
"I'm so glad to hear that, sweetheart." Fluttershy said. "But your birthday has just begun."
Lightning looked at Fluttershy in confusion.
Fluttershy giggled and said, "Your Aunties and I still have a special surprise waiting for you."
Lightning smiled as Fluttershy flew to Twilight's Library with Lightning in her forelegs and holding in to her neck. She knew that tonight was truly going to be a night for Lightning to always remember.
