//------------------------------// // It changed too quickly // Story: Daring the Scoots // by FlutterPal //------------------------------// Scootaloo flapped her wings as hard as she could, hoping to get at least a foot off the ground. Sweat beaded her forehead, and she could almost not breath. Rainbow Dash was looking at her with forceful eyes yet she was trying to smile. Scootaloo tried and tried, but the ground didn’t get farther away, it just got closer, then right on her face. Her sister was still trying to smile, with sweat now coming on her forehead. “Good job! Now for the,” she gulped then said “levitation?” Scootaloo put her head down with a sad, longing look on her face. “It’s ok, Dash. You don’t have to pretend, I already know.” She sighed, then trotted back to her room away from the training room. Scootaloo wanted to fly so bad. What’s wrong with her wings? They won’t fly, they won’t flap properly, and yet she was a Pegasus. Learning is a disaster. Flying is a disaster. EVERYTHING is a— “Scootaloo?” Rainbow Dash called. “Please come out.” Scootaloo got out of her room and went to where she heard Dash’s voice project from. She trotted out of the hallway, and saw Rainbow Dash sitting on the cloud couch, holding a green novel in her hoof. Scootaloo sighed and joined her sister by sitting on the soft couch. “Time for some reading,” said Rainbow. “Daring Do and the Sapphire Stone, by who knows what let’s get to reading,” Scootaloo had to giggle at her sister’s humor. Got to enjoy some jokes for a while. Rainbow opened the book and a smell of sweet sap filled the air. The pages looked cold, dusty, and torn. “Ok. You ready?” Dash said. Scootaloo nodded reluctantly. “Good,” she said. And Rainbow Dash started to read. ************************************************************* Rainbow Dash kicked off the end just as there was an almost as amazing as Rainbow Dash start. Scootaloo had everything imagined from the story into her head. The king, the stone, the traps- Everything! She almost pretended to be Daring Do in her room for a while after Rainbow read the book to Scootaloo, until she spotted her. But Scootaloo knew she HAD to show this to her friends! This book wasn’t NEAR as good as those books they read when they were trying to get cutie marks as librarians. Maybe, cutie mark book readers! Wait, didn’t they try that already? But maybe it had something to do with Daring Do! Wait, CUTIE MARK ADVENTURERS! But maybe it was too early to try that… Or it’s NEVER too early! Being like Daring Do would be SO AWESOME! Winning EVERY adventure with no cuts or bruises or even a minor injury! It was amazing! Scootaloo wanted to try to be Daring Do, it would be awesome! Scootaloo sat in her bedroom for a while, thinking about the awesome book. Why did she regret it? Because reading was still kinda uncool. But some books were so lucky that EVERYPONY liked them! Everything changed SO fast! Like, REALLY fast! Then she heard Rainbow Dash calling her again. “Scoots, it’s time for you to ride your scooter to do um, something.” But she knew what to do. “Hey, sis, um, can I borrow that book?” Rainbow Dash responded by saying, “Eh, sure.” Scootaloo ran into the living room, grabbed the book off the table, then ran outside to get her scooter. Only to be blocked by a large fall from the sky. “Darn,” she whispered. After a long, long, LONG, long, long, long time, Scootaloo got to the ground and rode her way down her friends' houses. telling them to meet her at the Everfree Forest with supplies. After THAT Scootaloo rode down to the dark forest and waited. And waited. And waited. ‘Till her friends got there. “What’s this all about Scootaloo? You’re not gonna break your wing again, are you?” Sweetie Belle asked, worried. “Yeah, what IS this about anyways?” Apple Bloom asked worried as well. Scootaloo rolled her eyes. “Guys, don’t worry. I’m gonna see if I can do these things that this character in a book Dash read to me,” she said, pulling out the novel and showing it to her friends. Sweetie looked the book over quickly and smiled. “I love books! I mean, I love THIS book! But the stunts she does are dangerous Scootaloo. Are you sure you want to do this?” she said. Scootaloo snorted then said, “These stunts are nothing! I want to try them on my own though! Now, where’s my hat?” Apple Bloom pulled out one of the boards and Sweetie Belle scratched her hoof on the ground nervously. Scootaloo looked at them, then back at the forest. “Umm, did you bring Opal?” she asked. Sweetie looked at her with sorrow. “Well, umm, let’s set this up,” ********************************************************* Rainbow Dash sat on the couch looking at some of the Daring Do books. She thought of how silly she was to think of these books as bad. Why she turned them down? Dash didn’t know. But it was just how it happened to Scootaloo of what happened to her. Well, except for the cop chase. Then there was a knock at the door. “Come in!” said Rainbow. Scootaloo walked in. “Hey Scoots, how was crusading?” Dash asked. “Good!” replied Scootaloo. Rainbow looked back at Scootaloo to find that she was scratched and cut all over the place. “Scoots, what did you crusade for?” but she was already in her room. Rainbow shrugged and picked up one of the books to begin reading. Maybe it was her imagination, or Scoots needs to be more careful crusading. If it wasn’t, then that’s weird. But whatever she did, Rainbow kinda hoped that she was safe doing it. Like, REALLY safe.
