//------------------------------// // Preface: An Understanding // Story: Rare Window // by Soliassoul //------------------------------// Imagination. It is what drives us, inspires us to create and destroy, to go further, to dream, exceeding the borders of reality to immerse ourselves in our fantasy, to abandon our views of the world so that we may come to find an understanding between the two, opposing forces; Perception and Reality, but there is something that lies between, another force, one so powerful, it can shape reality as a whole, bending the structure of the universe to adhere to its calling. It lay deep within the mind of every living soul, obstructed by reason and logic, waiting for a chance to break free so it may leave its mark in time. In some, it is stronger than others, frequently prevailing against the boundaries of reality to create something we may once have thought to be unimaginable, impossible. It is a parasite, gripping the thoughts of its victim, slowly delving deeper into the mind of its host, distorting their reality. It can change the way in which we view our world, molding us, forming us into a different being, altering our ideals and our morals, but this change will never be predictable. It can drive some to insanity, others to finding understanding and peace, and to discovering truth and wisdom. It is a wondrous yet dangerous idea; Imagination. But what happens when insanity and wisdom collide? It is the ultimate act of ingenuity, an idea so complex and so inexplicable, even the notions before it cannot attest to such greatness. To combine these two opposites can offset a mind's perception, for none have dared to venture into this unknown realm of mystery and innovation. Yet it remains, waiting patiently for an opportune moment to display its nature, to surpass all other ideas before it, defying laws of the world to create a cohesive wholeness between the two elements. It is an unexplored region of the mind, seldom thought upon, but always there. Such is the nature of imagination to guide us to alien ideas, lead us beyond what we think to be possible, and utterly obliterate the aspect of reason. One pony . . . one idea . . . all lead by the influential power of imagination. A compelling ideal to create a fantasy within reality, one so great, it may prove to defy the universe in itself.
