//------------------------------// // Make A Wish! // Story: Wish Upon A Discord // by ShadeJak //------------------------------// Despite the sunny day in Ponyville, its top weatherpony was in a stormy mood. “So. BORED!” Rainbow Dash protested as she rolled over on her cloud. With Twilight going through that whole princess thing that meant she’d be away in Canterlot for a couple days, she wouldn’t be seeing her for a good while. No reading partner, and the ‘flying buddy’ thing was gonna be put on hold. Rainbow Dash was never one to enjoy a wait, even a short one. Her other usual haunts were no better. Thanks to a big birthday bash Pinkie Pie was busy, and Rarity's dressmaking skills had not gone unnoticed in Canterlot and now she was up to her shoulders in requests! Then there was Applejack; an unfortunate stampede of animals that got startled by a stray Everfree monster resulted in her barn getting destroyed and as a result she was busy working on repairs. As for Fluttershy, well, her new bestest best friend who once tried to turn Equestria into a warped freakshow was over for a surprise visit which was all the reason the pegasus needed to avoid going to her. All in all, she'd have only herself for company today. With a groan, Rainbow felt the weight of realization come over her. Applejack, Pinkie Pie, and Fluttershy were all content with where they were. Rarity was already having her work become more and more known throughout Equestria, and of course, Twilight was a freaking princess and an alicorn now to boot! And where was she, the fastest young flier in Equestria? Still the same weatherpony. Sure she was in the Wonderbolt Academy, but who knew how long it’d take until they had the opening for her on the actual team? It was a dream played by chance. “Sure, I’ll be first pick, I mean it’s me after all!” she said, though her smile didn’t quite reach her eyes, nor did her enthusiasm feel as strong as it should be. The others were either moving up in the world or were already where they wanted to be and she wasn’t. Then there was Twilight… she had moved up in ways way past what anypony would have expected or could achieve, and she didn’t even ask for it! True, Twilight’s dedication to her studies was matched by Rainbow’s dedication to her own athletic prowess, but Twilight had hoped to be a renowned magic scholar like that Starswirl the Bearded guy; and instead got way bigger. Another… and perhaps biggest example of a pony moving up in the world, and the pegasus couldn’t help but feel left behind, and for that, a little jealous. She’d helped save Equestria too… stopping Nightmare Moon, keeping the Crystal Ponies occupied while the Crystal Heart was being sought out, helping defeat Discord… Rainbow turned again, only this time, her cloud felt… sticky?! Struggling, she found the cloud was now pink and gooey, rather then white and plush. Not only that, but it smelt like… “Cotton candy?!” the pegasus said out loud. A loud, obnoxious, and all too familiar laugh could be heard down below. Looking over, she saw a familiar chimeric beast standing on the ground, pointing and laughing at her. “Oh that was priceless!” Discord said, snickering. “The way you struggled and just got even more stuck, the look on your face when you realized what you were laying on! Oh the hilarity of it!” Grumbling, Rainbow bit away the chunks of cotton candy that she was tangled in, and tore herself free. As soon as she did, she flew towards Discord, who raised his claw up and… somehow plucked the cotton candy cloud right from its spot like a filly removing a cloud sticker off a weather board at school and placed it on a cone he’d pulled from out of nowhere. Nevermind how the cotton candy cloud was now suddenly the size it looked from the distance it’d been from the ground and fit perfectly on Discord’s cone. “Mmm, strawberry flavor! Hungry, Rainbow Dash?” the chaos god asked, grinning at her and holding the cone out. “Very funny, Discord. What the hay are you doing out here, anyway? Weren’t you hanging out with Fluttershy?” Rainbow asked. “Awww, is somepony being a grumpy-flanks?” Discord teased, pinching the pegasus’ cheek as he ate the cone and tossed the cotton candy aside like trash. “Fluttershy’s doing her little feed-her-pets round, which given how many she’s got and how much TLC she gives each one as she feeds them, you know that’s going to take awhile! So, I decided what better way to show off the new, reformed Discord then hanging out with my new other pal Rainbow Dash?” he asked, putting his paw around her and giving her a smug grin, knowing he was only getting on her nerves even more and enjoying every bit of it. “Really not in the mood, Discord!” Rainbow snapped, wriggling out of his grip and walking away slowly, only to have Discord descend in front of her upside-down. “Oh? Why might that be? Anyway I can turn that frown…” he began, and suddenly Rainbow noticed he was on the ground and she wasn’t, resulting in her promptly landing on her back. “…Upside-down?” he finished, chuckling to himself. “Come on, Rainbow Dash! Word has it you love a good prank, when did you get your tail in such a twist?” “I don’t wanna talk about it. Especially with you,” the pegasus said, trying to continue on her way, but the draconequus continued to poke and prod. “Tell me!” he insisted as he hovered beside her. “No.” “Please?” he asked, appearing right in front of her with enormous watery eyes. “No!” Rainbow answered as she went around him and began moving faster. “Pretty please?” Discord asked, popping out of a hole in a tree she was coming close to. “NO!” The pegasus took to the air and began to fly, she immediately landed on a cloud and lay down, hoping he’d leave her alone. “You hoped wrong! Now tell meeeee!” Discord pleaded, the cloud was now his body, coiled around Rainbow Dash, startling the pegasus as it unwound itself and hovered in the air, watching Rainbow fall back to the ground. The pegasus beat her wings as hard as she could, slowing her fall and landing safely as Discord landed beside her seconds after. “Fine, you wanna know so bad?” Rainbow demanded, now livid with the chaos god. “I’m jealous, alright? Jealous that all my friends have gotten their dreams to come true and I’m stuck waiting for mine to decide if it should or not! Even when I finish at the Academy, it could take months, a year, who knows, till they got an opening for me on the main team! And what’ll I be doing till then? Same dead-end job that’s what! I mean Twilight’s an alicorn princess, beat that!” Taking a few breaths and her rant over, she looked at the draconequus, who she realized was just bending and contorting in various ways. “Oh, sorry, you say something Rainbow Dash? I was a tad busy trying to deal with this killer itch on my back!” Discord answered, causing Rainbow Dash to facehoof and fall over backwards in exasperation. “So, can you be a dear and help get it for me?” Getting back up, her patience practically worn out now, Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes. “Please! Like you’re incapable of scratching your own back?” she asked. “Oh, I’m very much aware that I am, but then I would have to do it!” Discord whined. Rainbow knew he was doing this to annoy her, she’d expect no less, but knowing he’d probably just keep pestering her if she didn’t oblige his request, she looked over at one of the trees and tore a branch off with her teeth, walking over to him as he gleefully laid down and she moved it back and forth between his mismatched wings. “Ohhh YES! That’s the spot! Right there! Oh, you should join that spa or something, Rainbow Dash! You’ve got a talent for this!” the chaos god complimented. When he was finally satisfied, he rolled over and took a reclining position as Rainbow spat out the stick she’d used. “There, now can you leave me alone?” Rainbow asked. “Oh but you CAN’T go yet!” Discord pleaded, standing up. “Since I’m all reformed now I need to repay you for your kindness!” “You can repay me by leaving me alone,” the pegasus answered, turning and spreading her wings as she prepared to fly away again. “I’ve got a better offer for you. I will use my power to grant any one single wish of yours! Free of charge, free of cost, no substitutions!” Discord offered, leaning forward with a grin and his paw outstretched. “Yeah, right! Why should I trust you? You’d probably just screw it up for a cheap laugh! If I ask for a cupcake you’ll probably place me inside of one, or if I want to see Twilight you’ll just make me watch that awful play about the sparkly vamponies!” Discord snickered in amusement. Those would be quite funny, but he wasn’t going to risk being turned to stone again or lose Fluttershy’s friendship by causing that level of havoc on her friends. “Very well, Rainbow Dash. I Pinkie Promise that I’ll follow your exact words to the letter so you can be assured I can’t change a thing or cheat you!” Discord said with perfect confidence. “Cross my heart, hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye if it helps,” he offered, making all the gestures and even literally poking his own eye out, removing it off the tip of his claw, and tossing it back where it belonged good as new. Rainbow snorted but decided if he was aware of the consequences of if he went back on this and caused a bunch of trouble, and given how he seemed to genuinely value his friendship with Fluttershy she’d give him this one chance. Plus there was the added benefit he’d leave her be after. “If you leave me alone after,” she said. “Of course, of course!” Discord said, looking to the side with a smirk and folding his arms. “Why stick around and impose on your appreciation. I’m not that desperate for approval, unlike some ponies!” Ignoring the insult, Rainbow took a moment to think about what she’d ask from him. Be a wonderbolt? No, too easy, and she had to trust Spitfire’s judgment, right? Fly faster? Nah, she was faster then anypony already! Have ponies think she was cooler? Like that was even possible with her coolness level! No, she had to think of something better. Wait, what way could she become cooler then to experience the kind of awesomeness Twilight had to be feeling? She was admittedly a little jealous… mostly of Twi even though she was ashamed to be. But still, the whole alicorn thing was like the most awesome thing ever, and if Twi could be an alicorn, so could she! Finally a chance to enjoy a little bit of moving up! Somewhere in her mind, Rainbow felt that tiny voice suggesting this may be a bad idea, but she as she often did when her mind was set on something, she ignored it. She was sick of her depression and her boredom, who knew what excitement this would bring her life… she could travel about Equestria or beyond fighting evil with lots of power and a lot more coolness if she wanted and put Commander Hurricane to shame! Well, that was it then. “Alright, Discord!” she said with a grin. “I’ve decided, I wish to be an alicorn like Twilight Sparkle!” Discord’s eyes widened in surprise at her request. “What, you suddenly unable to do that?” Rainbow asked, smirking in amusement. “Figures.” “Oh, no no, I can. I’m just a little surprised. Is that your final answer, Rainbow Dash?” he asked, a grin beginning to spread on his face. “Did I stutter? Do it already!” “As you wish!” Discord said, grinning widely as he snapped his claw, and a flash of light engulfed the pegasus. Rainbow felt dizzy for a moment, shaking her head she stood herself back up. She felt… different, though she couldn’t quite place her hoof on it. Discord hovered in the air in front of her, his paw and claw clasped over his mouth and his eyes wide with apparent glee as she struck a pose. “Well, how do I l—“ Rainbow brought her hoof to her mouth, realizing how different her voice now sounded, it sounded higher, less raspy, and very familiar. Looking down at her hoof, she realized it was no longer her cyan blue but a light lavender. “Discord, what did you…?“ “Well, what do you think, am I great or what?” Discord asked, making a mirror appear in front of himself as he held it up for her and was biting his lips as if trying to stifle laughter. Rainbow approached and saw Twilight Sparkle’s reflection looking back at her. Panicking, she brought her hooves to her mane, realizing it was now her friend’s length and style, and reaching her forehead she found a horn present. With a nervous glance back, she saw the rest of her was just as much Twilight Sparkle as well and screamed up at the sky as loud as she could. “Sheesh, warn me next time!” Discord said, removing his ears and shaking them out before placing them back on his head. “So, you like it?” he asked with a grin, catching the transformed Rainbow’s attention. “LIKE IT?! You bucking turned me into Twilight! You broke your promise, Discord!” the alicorn shouted furiously in the draconequus’ face. “Now, now, I did no such thing!” Discord answered, throwing his paw and claw up in defense. “I Pinkie Promised I’d follow your exact words to the letter. You wished to be an alicorn…” “….Like Twilight Sparkle…” Rainbow muttered, realizing the loophole. “And I followed your words exactly!” Discord said, a fancy suit appearing on him as he held a briefcase in his paw and a paper with the wish written on it in his claw held out in the alicorn’s face. “So you can’t blame me if I just happened to misinterpret your wish!” he said, laughing as the suit and supplies vanished off of him. Rainbow collapsed to her haunches, staring down at her new lavender hooves. “What am I supposed to do now?! You have any idea what Twilight… the real Twilight’s gonna say when she sees this?!” she demanded. “Hm, no idea, but I’m sure it’ll make for a very interesting conversation if you’re so willing to tell her how all this happened!” Discord answered with a smug smirk on his face again. “Imagine how Celestia’s going to react to finding out you came to me to become an alicorn!” Rainbow hung her head, not sure how to answer that. She’d acted so recklessly and now she was paying for it, and for all she knew, it’d only get worse if Twi or especially Celestia found out about it! “But… then again…” Discord mused, rubbing his chin. “I could get a lot more fun out of this then I thought!” he turned towards the transformed alicorn with a smirk. “Tell you what, since you’re now Twilight I’ll play the part of Celestia and expect you to learn a valuable lesson from all this!” “What the buck do you mean by that?!” Rainbow demanded. “Now now, enough with the course language, Twilight,” Discord replied with a barely repressed chuckle. “I mean that if you can truly learn the lesson I wish to teach you from all this, then I will change you back and we can put this all behind us!” With a snap of his claw, a calendar appeared next to him in a flash of light that featured a picture of himself in a swimsuit with a lipstick kissmark over it on top. “As you probably know, Twilight’s not going to be in Canterlot forever so you’d better hurry, unless you’re keen on the idea of telling her she’s got a twin sister now!” he explained. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, I believe somepony asked that I leave her alone after this was done!” Before Rainbow could answer, Discord spun around several times laughing, and vanished in a flash of light, leaving behind bits of confetti that fell to the ground spelling out the letters U, M, A, and D before a faint breeze blew them away in the shape of a question mark. The newly-made alicorn let out an angry snort. “Well this stinks!” she muttered, spreading her wings and flying back home, grumbling to herself about stupid chaos gods and wondering how she’d get out of this mess.
