Reunion - Chapter 40

Celestia allows me and my force an hour to prepare defenses and one of her lieutenants, Shining Armor, as an advisor. She believes my forces to be at a severe disadvantage. They are not but I am the author of the rules of war and I remember my first tenet: when your opponent makes a mistake, you let them.

Shining Armor is as capable as any of Celestia’s guard. He has a specialty in large shield spells and has an unmatched talent for logistics. He is no tactician however. I intend no dishonor to the pony but his tactics range from the blatantly obvious (or honorable as he describes them) to the disastrously foolish.

I listen to him berate my guerrilla strategies as we make our preparations. I know he possesses neither subtlety nor battlefield experience. Honor is defending your home and walking away from a battlefield with none of your soldiers lost. Simply lining my troops up and exchanging volleys as he suggests would lead to disaster.

We are outmatched in both numbers and range. Celestia knows the terrain but not how to turn it to her advantage. She possesses flyers but they are more suited to flying sky chariots than aerial combat. My formal defenses are modest while snowy traps abound.

My victory is all but won.
