//------------------------------// // A Beloved Sister // Story: The Sun's Fury // by ScootsDaChangeling //------------------------------// Celestia looked out upon the cold, moonless night, without a star in sight and pondered Why has my sister not brought out the moon yet? as she brought a hoof to her chin. But the silence of night was quickly interrupted by a loud roar that could be heard throughout Equestria. “The night shall last” – A shadowy figure in the sky brought up the moon – “forever!” Celestia looked up at the moon and said to herself in disbelief. “Sister?” Her expression quickly morphed from one of question to one of worry as she spread her wings and took to the air. “Sister, what are you...” Luna looked down upon her sister with a snarl. “Did you not hear me sister? Or could you not hear me over your adoring subjects?” “Sister” – Celestia flew up to Luna and looked into her now cat-like eyes – “What has become of you?” “You know exactly what has become of me!” Luna swatted her sister away, knocking her off balance. “You and your sun-loving subjects never paid any love to me or my beautiful night! I am but a tool for you to use to bring about the night!” Celestia regained her balance and flew right back up to Luna. “Sister, I have always loved you and your starry night sky, there is no need for you to overthrow my day, many ponies love your night as well” Pleaded Celestia as Luna enveloped her in a magical grip. “Lies! All lies! You never cared for me!” Luna threw Celestia to the ground and dove down, forcefully putting her hoof down to her sister’s neck. “And the only way to be sure you won’t stop me” – Luna forced her hoof further into Celestia’s neck – “is to wipe you off the face of Equestria!” Celestia gurgled, trying to get words out as her horn glowed bright yellow. She stared at Luna in fear, knowing that her only family was trying to murder her. She knew she’d have to fight back with force or risk being killed, leaving Equestria with an eternal night and her sister ruling over it with an iron hoof. Celestia didn’t want to harm her though, she had to find a way to save both her own life and her sister’s. She continued to lay there, horn still glowing and slowly running out of breath. “Ha! You aren’t even going to fight back?” – Luna’s horn started to glow a dark blue –  “What a pity you are!” During Luna’s monologue, Celestia was able chant a single spell with the breath she had left, pushing her sister onto her back, white hot shackles holding her down. Celestia got up finally able to catch her breath and slowly trotted over to her sister’s side. “I’m sorry sister” – Celestia’s horn lit up once more, a tear seen rolling down her cheek –  “but you driven me to these lengths,” Luna’s horn quickly lit up as well. “You think these will hold me?! I am much more powerful than you can imagine sister!” A burst of magic shot out from Luna’s horn, knocking Celestia straight through one of the castle walls and releasing herself from her binds. Celestia slowly lifted her head up and groaned, holding her head in her hoof. Once she opened her eyes, she found herself looking up at her sister, horn glowing and looking down upon her in disgust. “Sister...please” Luna quickly replied mockingly. “I’m sorry, sister, but you've driven me to these lengths," Celestia shut her eyes tight, and braced herself, knowing what was going to happen. "Goodbye, sister!" Celestia opened her eye ever so slightly to see a dark figure sitting atop a tree in the distance with glowing red eyes and a wide smile, holding out a black paw. Luna then closed her eyes in concentration, turning her magical field into something of a blade, and swung it straight into Celestia’s- Knock! Knock! Knock! Celestia's eyes jolted open and she quickly reached for her neck. "Oh goodness...it was just a dream," Celestia sighed in relief. Knock! Knock! Knock! Celestia stammered for a moment, just realizing there was somepony at her door. “Yes, what is it?” She quickly lifted the covers off herself, slipping into her golden slippers as she got up onto her hooves. “There’s a letter for you Princess,” Answered to voice outside the door. Celestia trotted towards the door and opened it, taking the letter from the guard. “Thank you,” Celestia nodded respectfully as the guard saluted her. Celestia then went back inside her quarters, closing the door behind her with her magic. She then sat down on a small stool and brought up a letter opener using her magic, and cut the letter open. Celestia pulled out the note, and it read: ‘Celestia, Luna or whomever may be reading this, this is from the Diamond Dogs. We send you this letter looking for peace between us and your subjects. We are sending an ambassador for our race to your castle at dawn tomorrow. Whether or not you choose to accept our offer is completely up to you.                                                                                         Signed                                                                                                     ~Q.C.’ Celestia continued to look at the note even after reading it - even re-reading it - not knowing how to feel about it. Such crude writing... She thought. A Diamond Dog must have written this... Celestia put the note down and quickly got off her stool, heading out of her quarters. As she walked down the hall, she noticed many of the guards asleep on the job, and she sighed and looked ahead at the double doors outside and kept trotting towards them. As she trotted, she couldn’t help but to think back to her dream. It’s been so years since she’s been like that...and that figure...  She shook her head and talked to herself. “The Diamond Dogs are seeking peace, I can’t have a simple dream getting in the way of that,” Celestia opened the doors and spread her wings, slowly flying to the top of a nearby hill. Her horn lit up with magic as she slowly ascended into the air, lifting the sun up into its rightful spot in the bright blue sky and flew off towards her sister’s private quarters. Both her and her sister needed to be prepared for when their guest came.
