//------------------------------// // Turn 7: Into the Night // Story: Crossover Into Chaos // by dabestgamer //------------------------------// The garage was dark, save for the light that shone from the computer screen Yusei sat in front of. The only sounds that could be heard were from his typing… and from the thundering weather that began outside. The sky was black and filled with dark clouds. Yusei stared intensely at the monitor, as he was keying away while watching the different programs and figures shift on the screen. He then heard the sound of footsteps—hoofsteps, rather—coming from the nearby stairs. He turned his head to see Twilight approaching. “What are you doing still up, Yusei?” Twilight yawned. “Are you waiting for… I think his name was… Jack?” “Pretty much,” Yusei answered. “What about you?” “Haven’t exactly been able to get to sleep yet, though I’m still pretty tired.” “After all that’s happened today, I can’t blame you.” Yusei turned back towards the computer and began typing again. “What exactly are you doing right now?” Twilight asked, approaching him. “I’m working on a program for the new Ener-D reactor.” “What kind of… program?” “One that’ll prevent the potential for another Zero Reverse to happen in the future.” “Zero Reverse? You mean like the event that happened where…” “Yeah, that.” “But why, though?” “The Ener-D reactor is a generator that creates energy by constantly spinning in one direction. The problem is that… Synchro Summoning can cause it to spin faster.” “Wait… what? Synchro Summoning… you mean like in the card game…?” “Exactly. If the generator spins too fast, it’ll shift into reverse and explode.” Twilight’s mouth hung open. “But… how exactly do you know all this? And if Synchro Summoning could cause such a thing to happen… wouldn’t it make sense to… forbid it or something?” “Synchro Summoning is the proof of evolution and the Ener-D helps with that. Right now, it works properly because it is filled with mostly positive feelings. The problem comes when we begin to abuse the reactor for it and fill it with greed and other negative emotions.” “But again, how do you know all this?” “Yliaster.” “Yliaster? What’s that?” “They’re a group of people who came here from the future to destroy the reactor to prevent Zero Reverse from happening again.” “Wait, wait, wait… what? They… traveled back in time? But how?” “They developed the means to so they could save the world they came from. They even tried to use the Dark Signers—people who could command the Earthbound Immortals—to do it. When that didn’t work, they used the WRGP, a tournament we had, to complete the Circuit. With it, they would make the Arc Cradle appear and have it crash into the city.” “What’s a Circuit? And what’s an… ‘Arc Cradle’…?” “I think the Circuit was a way to gather enough energy for the Arc Cradle to appear in this time. The Arc Cradle itself was essentially Yliaster’s headquarters.” “Are you even sure what they were saying was true? Last time I tried to prevent a future disaster, I ended up realizing I was worrying over nothing.” “What do you mean?” “Well… one day I got a message from my future self… and she—er… my future self, that is—was in pretty bad shape… but she never finished what she was saying because the time travel spell that was cast wore off and she ended up back in her present. I thought it meant there was a disaster and it turned out nothing was wrong. Then I tried to go back in time and tell my past self that and… well… the shoe was on the other hoof…” Twilight blushed, sheepishly. “I see. Well, I’m positive that what they were saying was true. There was too much evidence and their conviction and determination to reach their goal was too strong to ignore. So… I’m determined to find a way to prevent that future from ever happening… and they eventually became convinced that I could save the future.” “But wouldn’t that create a time paradox? I mean… if you make it so their future never happened, then there wouldn’t be anyone to travel back in time to threaten you. And if they don’t appear in your time, then their future would happen, and then… I don’t know. There were a couple of occasions where somepony tried to mess with time before and, thankfully, there haven’t been any noticeable consequences yet.” “I get what you’re saying, Twilight. But as far as I’m concerned… right now… our future isn’t written yet.” Twilight’s eye twitched while she struggled to piece together whatever logic Yusei was using in her head. About the only thing that could possibly make sense would be that the timeline split off into two somewhere down the line. Whatever the case, it was too much to think about at that time of the night. “I won’t let their sacrifices be in vain…” Yusei said. “Whose?” Twilight asked, deciding to sit down. “Yliaster?” “Yeah.” Twilight glanced at Yusei. Something in what he had just said made the words feel heavy to her. She jumped as the room suddenly lit up from the flash of a lightning bolt. Thunder boomed. “The weather out there tonight is getting worse…” Yusei commented. “I wish Rainbow Dash was here… she might’ve gotten rid of all those clouds…” she thought. “At least they’d be easier than the storm clouds that were over Ponyville before all this crazy stuff happened…” She hung her head as her mind shifted back to her friends. “I hope my friends are all right… and I hope Jack makes it back before something happens… I kind of… want to apologize for before…” Twilight said. “Don’t worry. Jack is tough. He’ll be back before too long. And I’m sure he won’t hold it against you,” Yusei replied. “I hope so.” Celena chuckled as she rode down the Duel Lane, with Jack not too far behind. “I hope you’re ready, Jack Atlas,” she grinned. “I don’t know what that monster is… but I’ll be sure to crush it along with you!” Jack boasted. “Bold words. But let’s see if you can actually pull that off… that is… crushing me… before my monster crushes you.” “Then bring it on!” “It’s your funeral. But first things first… since I’ve Synchro Summoned a “Disharmony” monster, Dissonant Spirit increases my Life Points by 1000!” Jack scoffed. Celena LP: 2600 + 1000 = 3600 SPC: 3 “In addition, because Disharmony Cell was used as Synchro Material, I can draw one card,” Celena continued. “Battle! Disharmony – Double Blader! Attack Top Runner!” Disharmony – Double Blader LV: 7 ATK: 2300 Top Runner LV: 4 ATK: 1100 Her beast, blades attached to the sides of its arms, lunged at Jack’s monster and slashed it. 2300 – 1100 = 1200 Jack LP: 3200 – 1200 = 2000 SPC: 3 “When Double Blader destroys an opponent’s monster in battle, its ATK increases by 300!” Celena stated. Disharmony – Double Blader LV: 7 ATK: 2300 + 300 = 2600 “Is that all you’ve got?!” Jack exclaimed. “Not even close. At this moment, I activate the monster effect of Dissonant Battler from my Graveyard!” Celena declared. “When a “Disharmony” monster destroys an opponent’s monster in battle, I can banish it from the Graveyard, then that monster can attack once more this turn!” “Oh, great,” Jack scoffed again. “Go, Double Blader! This time, wipe out that Power Breaker!” Power Breaker LV: 4 ATK: 1900 Her monster lunged forward once more. 2600 – 1900 = 700 Jack LP: 2000 – 700 = 1300 SPC: 3 “Another monster destroyed by Double Blader… means it gains 300 more ATK!” Disharmony – Double Blader LV: 7 ATK: 2600 + 300 = 2900 “But now Power Breaker’s effect activates! When it’s destroyed, I can destroy a face-up Spell or Trap Card you control! I’ll take out that Dissonant Spirit!” Jack declared. “Not so fast! I activate the monster effect of Harmony Disruptor from my Graveyard! If you activate a monster effect while I control a “Disharmony” monster, I can banish it so that the activation of your effect is negated!” Celena countered. “Why you…” “I’ll Set one card face-down. Then during my End Phase, since Double Blader has attacked this turn, it must switch to Defense Position.” Disharmony – Double Blader LV: 7 DEF: 2200 “I end my turn,” she concluded. “I see now… despite how powerful that creature may become… its weakness is its defensive strength… meaning now’s my chance!” Jack concluded. “It’s my turn!” Jack LP: 1300 SPC: 3 + 1 = 4 Celena LP: 3600 SPC: 3 + 1 = 4 “But first… I’ll have to get rid of that troublesome Continuous Trap… or it’ll simply stop all of my attacks…” Jack glanced at his drawn card. “I send Dissonant Spirit from your field to the Graveyard to Special Summon Trap Eater!” A large head-shaped monster appeared underneath the image of Celena’s card and swallowed it. “What?” Celena responded. Trap Eater LV: 4 ATK: 1900 “Trap Eater is a monster that can be Special Summoned by sending a face-up Continuous Trap Card on the opponent’s field to the Graveyard!” Jack stated. “Clever,” Celena scoffed. “Then I’ll Normal Summon Mad Archfiend!” Mad Archfiend LV: 4 ATK: 1800 “I tune Level 4 Trap Eater with Level 4 Mad Archfiend!” 4 + 4 = 8 “The King's determination is conceived with a flame that burns red and becomes a crimson blade! Appear from beyond the burning hot waves! Synchro Summon! The burning fierce god, Crimson Blader!” Crimson Blader LV: 8 ATK: 2800 “Go, Crimson Blader! Attack Double Blader!” Jack commanded, his warrior charging forward. “When Crimson Blader destroys a monster in battle, the opponent can’t Summon a Level 5 or higher monster during their next turn… it would be bad if I let you get away with that…” Celena sneered. “I activate the Trap Card Impenetrable Attack! This turn, Double Blader can’t be destroyed in battle!” A barrier appeared between the two monsters, parrying the swords of Jack’s warrior. “Why you… I end my turn!” Jack concluded. “My move!” Jack LP: 1300 SPC: 4 + 1 = 5 Celena LP: 3600 SPC: 4 + 1 = 5 “I switch Double Blader into Attack Position!” Disharmony – Double Blader LV: 7 ATK: 2900 “Go! Destroy Crimson Blader!” she commanded, her monster slashing at Jack’s warrior. 2900 – 2800 = 100 Jack LP: 1300 – 100 = 1200 SPC: 5 “You know what happens next… another 300 ATK for my monster!” Disharmony – Double Blader LV: 7 ATK: 2900 + 300 = 3200 Celena grabbed the remaining card in her hand. “I’ll Set one card face-down and end my turn.” Disharmony – Double Blader LV: 7 DEF: 2200 “What’s wrong, Jack? This too tough of a fight for you?” Celena taunted. “Oh, be quiet,” Jack replied. “You’re nothing compared to me. Once I defeat you, I’ll save my friends! You won’t have them anymore!” “That so? Then come at me!” “With pleasure! My turn!” Jack LP: 1200 SPC: 5 + 1 = 6 Celena LP: 3600 SPC: 5 + 1 = 6 He glanced at the card he drew and the only other card in his hand. “All right… this should be enough to put her in her place…” he thought. “Since you control a monster and I don’t, I can Special Summon Vice Dragon from my hand. However, its original ATK and DEF are halved.” Vice Dragon LV: 5 ATK: 2000 / 2 = 1000 “Then I Summon the Tuner Monster Dark Resonator!” Dark Resonator LV: 3 ATK: 1300 “A Tuner Monster… going for that, are we?” Celena commented. “I tune Level 3 Dark Resonator with Level 5 Vice Dragon!” Jack continued, the Signer mark on his right arm glowing. 3 + 5 = 8 “The ruler's heartbeats will now file through here! Take witness to its creation-shaking power! Synchro Summon! My very soul, Red Dragon Archfiend!” Red Dragon Archfiend LV: 8 ATK: 3000 A large, dark red dragon descended next to Jack. Yusei grasped his right arm, tightly. The glow from his Signer mark peered through the spaces between his fingers. “What’s wrong, Yusei?” Twilight asked. “I can feel it…” he answered. “Feel what?” “Jack… he’s fighting.” “So… it’s finally here… Jack Atlas’s ace monster… Red Dragon Archfiend…” Celena mumbled. “Red Dragon Archfiend, attack Disharmony – Double Blader!” he commanded. The right fist of his dragon became engulfed in flames as it was thrust at Celena’s monster. “Absolute Power Force!” Double Blader was vanquished as it was smashed by the dragon’s fist. “At this moment, I activate a Trap Card! Lineage of Destruction!” Jack declared. “During the turn I destroy one of your Defense Position monsters, one Level 8 monster I control can attack twice!” “A second attack…?” “Take this! Red Dragon Archfiend, attack Celena directly!” The dragon launched its fist at Jack’s opponent. “Absolute Power Force!” The impact caused Celena to spin out of control. Jack’s Runner then overtook hers before she straightened out. Celena LP: 3600 – 3000 = 600 SPC: 6 “There’s only one man alive who can stand up to my power! You are nothing. I end my turn!” Jack concluded, looking back at Celena. “How’d you like tha—What?!” He saw only a grim smile on Celena’s face. “What’s with that grin of hers…?” he wondered. “Very good, Jack Atlas… it was expected that you’d get, at least, this far against me…” she said. “But my power… it’s on another level… that you cannot hope to surpass!” “Don’t kid yourself, lady.” “So you think I’m joking…?” she chuckled. “You couldn’t be more wrong…” “Oh, please. My Life Points are twice that of yours. Not to mention that you’ve got nothing against the power of my soul… my Red Dragon Archfiend!” “You think so?” “So you’re saying you can take me on? Then why don’t you prove it!” “As you wish… it’s my turn!” Celena declared, drawing a card. Jack LP: 1200 SPC: 6 + 1 = 7 Celena LP: 600 SPC: 6 + 1 = 7 “I activate the effect of Speed World 2! By removing seven Speed Counters, I can draw one card from my Deck!” Celena LP: 600 SPC: 7 – 7 = 0 “Perfect…” she grinned, glancing at her drawn card. “Everything is in place…” Jack remained silent, attempting to anticipate her next move. “I activate the Continuous Trap Harmonic Reverse!” she continued. “This Special Summons a “Disharmony” Synchro Monster from my Graveyard with its effect negated! Revive, Double Blader!” Disharmony – Double Blader LV: 7 ATK: 2300 “That monster didn’t stand a chance against my dragon before, and it certainly doesn’t now!” Jack stated. “I’m not done!” Celena replied. “I now Summon the Tuner Monster Disharmony Spark!” Disharmony Spark LV: 1 ATK: 0 “Tuner Monster…?” Jack mumbled. “I now tune Level 1 Disharmony Spark with Level 7 Disharmony – Double Blader!” she declared. Jack felt a sudden surge of pain where his glowing Signer mark was as he watched Disharmony Spark transform into a black ring that surrounded the seven dark stars Double Blader split into. He then noticed his surroundings becoming severely darker. “What is this?!” he exclaimed. “Watch, Jack Atlas…” Celena replied, as a dark pillar engulfed the seven stars and the black ring. 1 + 7 = 8 “From the depths of chaos, a powerful deity emerges with the strength to smite all who dare oppose her! Synchro Summon! Descend, O ruler of the night! Disharmony – Death Armor Moon!” Jack stared into the thick, black shroud behind him. He could see nothing, except for the bright glowing eyes that pierced through the darkness. Disharmony – Death Armor Moon LV: 8 ATK: 2500 “What is that monster…?!” he exclaimed. “Your end,” Celena replied. “You must be joking! I may not be able to see your monster, but it still only has 2500 ATK. That means nothing to my Red Dragon Archfiend’s 3000!” Red Dragon Archfiend LV: 8 ATK: 3000 “What dragon?” Celena sneered. “What?” Jack looked up at his dragon, only to watch it vanish before his eyes. “Impossible!” He looked back at Celena and the glowing eyes. 8 * 100 = 800 Disharmony – Death Armor Moon LV: 8 ATK: 2500 + 800 = 3300 “3300 ATK?! But how?” “When Death Armor Moon is Synchro Summoned, it banishes all face-up opponent’s Synchro Monsters… then its ATK increases by the total Level of those monsters times 100,” she explained. “It can’t be…” Jack replied. “With no monsters… no Set Spell or Trap Cards… and no cards in your hand… you have nothing left to defend yourself, Jack Atlas…” “I don’t believe this…” “Disharmony – Death Armor Moon… direct attack!” she commanded. “Ultimate Nightmare!” Jack screamed as the shadows pierced into his body as he began to lose control of his Duel Runner. The vehicle fell onto its side as he was violently thrown off, ending up on his back. Jack LP: 1200 – 3300 = 0 SPC: 7 He struggled to rise as he heard a Duel Runner halting to a stop followed by footsteps approaching. “Bravo, Jack,” Celena complimented, slowly clapping her hands. “You put up quite the fight.” “Why you…” Jack replied. “I won’t forget this… I will save my friends if it’s the last thing I do!” “You fool…” Jack struggled to move his arms and legs. He turned his head to see a ropy-like shadow constrict him to the ground… shadows that emerged from a larger darkness that surrounded Jack. “Wha… what is this?!” he exclaimed. “Like I said… this was the fastest way to reunite with your friends,” she chuckled. “What?” “No worries, you’ll be seeing them soon. In the meantime…” she turned towards the glowing eyes that had dealt the final blow of the Duel. “I have another task to complete…” Jack noticed the black clouds vanishing and looked towards the glowing eyes. He struggled to get a glimpse of the creature he had just faced as the darkness began to blanket him completely. “That shape…” he thought. “It can’t be… It looks just like a—"
