Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Sweetie Belle, Applejack, Apple Bloom, Rainbow Dash, Scootaloo, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, and Silver Spoon were in front of an violet cave. The sky was mint green and there were crystals everywhere.
The ponies saw a white earth pony. She had a flower in her pink mane.
Rarity saw that the earth pony was wearing an elegant robe. She looked back at the hide the ponies had from the last trial.
The earth pony saw the group. “Hello, travelers. I am known as Virgo.”
“Hello,” Twilight said. “Do you know where we are.”
Pinkie Pie said, “Is this dream valley?”
Virgo shook her head. “No, this is the cave of desires. Here your deepest desires are fulfilled.”
The ponies felt intrigued by the cave. Rarity said “Can you tell us more, darling.”
“Certainly,” Virgo said. “Only two ponies can enter the cave at a time. Those ponies are granted one wish each. As the cave’s guardian, I personally pick the ponies that shall enter.”
Everypony but Twilight Sparkle and Silver Spoon thought about what they would wish for.
Rainbow Dash said, “I could finally be a Wonderbolt.”
Scootaloo said, “We could get our cutie marks!” Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle were giddy after that sentence.
Pinkie Pie said, “And I can throw the biggest party in all Equestria!”
Twilight went up to Virgo. The robed pony said, “Is there anything you desire?”
Twilight said, “There is one thing, but I’m not sure that this cave would be able to grant it.”
Virgo said, “There are some wishes that this cave would not grant. You cannot use it to bypass the rest of the trials for instance.”
“Yeah, figures.” Twilight said.
Virgo went towards the group. “I have made my decision.” She pointed to Rarity and Sweetie Belle. “You two shall enter the cave. Make your wishes carefully, and remember the cave will not last long after you get the wishes.”
Sweetie Belle said, “So where do we get the wishes?”
Virgo said, “They are stars found at the end of the cave.”
The other ponies wished them luck.
The two sisters squealed in excitement. Rarity thanked Virgo and gave the Nemean hide to Twilight. The two went into the violet cave.
Inside the cave, Rarity and Sweetie Belle trekked the walls. Rarity was surprisingly tolerant of the cave compared to the last time she went in one. In fact she was fascinated by the crystals there. Sweetie Belle wasn’t that surprised.
Eventually, they were at a chamber in the cave. They saw two star-shaped gemstones in the walls.
Sweetie Belle said, “So what are you gonna wish for, Rarity?”
Rarity said, “I don't know, Sweetie. There just so many things I could wish for.” She thought wishing for the largest diamond in Equestria, or more nemean skins for her fashions. Sweetie Belle had only one goal in mind. She wanted her cutie mark. Rarity went and took the red star from the wall and Sweetie Belle took the blue star.
The cave quaked as soon as they took the stars out. Rocks fell from the ceiling and Rarity and Sweetie Belle tried to escape. They galloped out of the chamber but the paths changed and the cave continued to collapse and caved in.
The two sisters saw an opening to the left and went there. Rarity saw a large boulder about to fall on Sweetie Belle and pushed her out of the boulders path.
Sweetie Belle saw the boulder fell and crushed Rarity. She tried to move the heavy boulder but it wouldn't budge. She wept for her fallen sister. The boulders stopped falling, the cave was stable.
Sweetie Belle said, “You did this for me.” She looked at the blue star. She wondered, ‘Maybe I can save you with this.’ She realized that if she used her wish to revive Rarity, she would be unable to use it to get her cutie mark. She looked at the boulder that crushed her sister.
After looking at the rock for a few moments, she diverted her attention to the azure gemstone. She cried and said, “I wish for my sister back. Please, bring her back to me.”
The sapphire star levitated itself and flashed. When the flash subsided, the boulder was gone and Rarity still lied on the ground unconsciously.
Rarity woke up and saw Sweetie Belle. “Ugh.” She tried to stand. “You’re alright.” She saw that Sweetie Belle’s star was missing. “Your star.”
“I used it to save you,” Sweetie Belle said.
Rarity said, “But your cutie mark.:”
“No cutie mark is worth losing my sister, Rarity,” Sweetie Belle said.
Rarity hugged Sweetie Belle. The cave rumbled again. The floors cracked below them. They galloped as fast as they can. The boulders that obstructed the path fell through the paths and into a dark abyss. Rarity used her horn and suspended the boulders in the air with her magic. They used the suspended boulders as a path across the gap.
Rarity and Sweetie Belle made it across the gap, the mouth was in sight. They escaped the cave just as it collapsed. The poneis saw the maw of the cave collapsed as soon as they escaped.
Twilight Sparkle said, “What happened?”
“Did you through anything else?” Pinkie Pie asked.
Rarity and Sweetie Belle told them what happened in the cave.
A few seconds later, Sweetie belle finished, “...and then the cave collapsed.”
Apple Bloom said, “But your cutie mark.”
Sweetie Belle said, “There was no way I could live with myself if I’d let my sister die for a cutie mark.”
Virgo said, “You made the right choice, choosing your sister over your desires.” She went to the gates and took out a sapphire star. The azure star dissipated into mint green particles and the particles formed the sign for Virgo (♍) on the gates. She looked at Rarity and said, “She learned a lot from you. I can tell that. Your trial awaits.”
Rarity said, “My trial?” She never heard any of the previous guardians mention what pony would be tested next.
Virgo nodded. “I’ll be waiting for you when you finish.”
The ponies entered the gates. Rarity was a little worried that she might fail the next task.
